#TolkienReadingDay

Happy Tolkien Reading Day! The Tolkien Society chose to focus on Service & Sacrifice as a theme this year. With that in mind, I‘m sharing this quote that I love about the small deeds of simple people being important in the matters of the world.

Additionally, today is Annunciation Day, recognized by the Catholic Church, and Lady Day, for a long time considered the beginning of the new year in England.

tpixie Lovely quote. 🩷 8mo
JazzFeathers I love that quote! And personally, l think this idea is one of Tolkien's most innovative work on the fantasy genre. 8mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers I love this theme in his work. Like you, I have many favorite quotes, but I do think this is one of my most shared. 8mo

I can't believe I almost missed Tolkien Reading Day! But here I am to raise a toast to our favourite professor!
My friends make fun of me because I often say, “This is one of my favourite Tolkien quotes,“ and they say, “They are all your favourite quotes!“ LOL! I suppose they are right.
But this quote would make any reader's heart sing!

Happy Tolkien Reading Day!

It‘s Tolkien Reading Day! Today‘s theme from the Tolkien Society is Love and Friendship, so I‘m sharing this quote from when Sam, Merry, and Pippin pretty much tell Frodo he is stuck with their friendship and company on his journey.

I haven‘t been reading much Tolkien lately, but I am going to read another letter or two yet tonight.

Happy Tolkien Reading Day! I‘ve had a busy school day and I still need to finish my sub plans for tomorrow, but I‘m going to make at least a little time to read more of this tonight. I‘m ready to start Part Three and am still hoping I can finish the book by the end of the month.

JazzFeathers I had such a busy Tolkien Reading Day yesterday... That l forgot to post here 😭 l suppose l should do it now 😜 4y
Daisey @JazzFeathers I didn‘t make time for anything else Tolkien related, but at least I did get a few pages in. 4y

I was having a hard time deciding on quotes to share today because I feel like I‘ve shared most of my favorites as we‘ve made our way through the readalong. The Tolkien Society of KC newsletter I receive mentioned considering a theme of nature & technology and reading a few of Tolkien‘s letters. This quote from a letter to his son Christopher during WWII caught my attention.

BookwormAHN Interesting quote. Also I was thinking that The Letters of Tolkien could be a contender for after we finish the histories. 5y
Daisey @BookwormAHN I would definitely like to read them with this group at some point! So far, I‘ve only referenced my copy when a specific letter or event is mentioned somewhere else in my reading. 5y
JazzFeathers I'd love to read the letters at some point. So far, l've only read excerpts from them. 5y

I started my day with a bit of extra Tolkien reading time, but then I got wrapped up in my work for the day and forgot to post. I enjoyed rereading this story after so much other reading. It‘s an interesting perspective on some of Tolkien‘s possible thinking about the creative process.

JazzFeathers I've been thinking about getting a nice edition of Leaf by Niggle. Yours is illustrated 😻 What edition is it? 5y
Daisey @JazzFeathers This is from my copy of Tales from the Perilous Realm. It has wonderful illustrations by Alan Lee. 5y

Happy #TolkienReadingDay !

The Hobbit was my introduction to fantasy as a child. I've loved dragons ever since. The conversation between Bilbo and Smaug has always been a favorite passage. I love how Tolkien wrote dragons in to his stories. Glaurung had some great dialog in The Silmarillion as well.

BookwormAHN That's also my favorite part of The Hobbit 💚 5y
JazzFeathers Tolkien's dragons are simply marvellous. It may seem they are the classic evil dragons, but they are much more. They are clever creatures, with complex personalities. Glaurung is my favourite. 5y
TK421 @JazzFeathers I always like looking at the Tolkien dragons size chart after reading The Silmarillion. Smaug was just a little guy compared to the old dragons. 5y

Such a powerful, melancholy, and still hopeful ending.

I hope you'll enjoyed my celebration of Tolkien Reading Day. I loved spending it with Sam 😊

Daisey You chose some wonderful quotes to share, and I really enjoyed how you kept the focus around Sam. 💕 5y

The Sea is always a powerful, yet sad force in Tolkien's stories. No character is unaffected by its call.
