#FellowshipOfTolkien

Hi everyone.
I've been swallowed up by the AtoZ Blogging Challenge this month, which is why I've disappeared
I have three books by Tolkien to finish and l mean to, but at the moment l need to read this #NetGallet ARC before il expires.

Enjoyable read, though nothing special.

I"ll try my hardest to be a better Litsy citizen soon. I know l always say that ? but l promise l really want to.

Sace You are a perfect Litizen! I recently took note of this book. I‘m hoping my library has it or will get it. It doesn‘t sound like it‘s worth purchasing. 2mo
JazzFeathers @Sace l will not purché it, honestly. But it's a fun read 😁 2mo

4✨ What a cute story. A story Tolkien wrote for his son who lost his little toy dog. The story follows Rover on an adventure when he is lost by his little boy. It‘s so cute and something similar happened to me as a kid. #FellowshipofTolkien @Daisey @JazzFeathers

1✨ I read about 45% of this and it was just too much. It is written well, but there is so much going on I can‘t wrap my head around it right now. I‘ll try this again sometime, but the names of elves, locations, and changes in storyline are too much for me to get into right now. Sorry guys I tried. #FellowshipofTolkien @JazzFeathers @Daisey

Daisey That‘s completely understandable. I hope you do try it again later. 2mo
dabbe #hailthebail! #betterbooksahead 🤩🤩🤩 P.S. I bailed on it years ago and have been too afraid to try again! 😂 2mo
Roary47 @dabbe I can see that doing a chapter at a time is doable. I just got so behind and so lost. I need fluffy reads until the school year is over. 😅 2mo
dabbe @Roary47 I don't teach anymore, and I still need fluffy reads! 🤩😂🤗 2mo

I finished my #FellowshipofTolkien re-read of this last week—it was as beautiful & tragic as ever. This time, I was struck by the themes of pride and jealousy, and sacrifice—the ruin caused by the first two, and the redemption found in the last. The world Tolkien created is so rich and deep—and I loved revisiting it for this buddy read. Thank you @Daisey and @JazzFeathers for hosting!

Daisey I‘m so glad you enjoyed your read, and I appreciated each post you shared along the way. Thanks so much for joining us! 3mo
JazzFeathers So happy you enjoyed the read. I know the Silmarillion can be tough, but if you stick with it, it is so rewording, don't you think? 3mo

I‘ve appreciated the world building of this book every time I‘ve read it, but after multiple rereads I can simply enjoy reading it as well. There are epic stories with amazing characters. Yet, it only shows a small part of the world Tolkien created, and now reading it makes me want to reread books with other versions as well. This time I switched throughout between print, ebook, & audio versions.

Daisey How‘s everyone else doing on getting through the book? 3mo

JazzFeathers That's very true. Every new reread is a new experience, and every time we read it, we become more familiar vit the story and can start to see beyond the complex plot. It's an amazing book. 3mo
BethM I failed at this one 🤦‍♀️are we reading more? 2mo
Daisey @BethM I am always up for reading more and still have a stack of Tolkien books I haven‘t read. I think for the most part people have finished or stopped reading I‘ll check in with @JazzFeathers and see about making another plan. 2mo
Daisey @BethM As of right now, we don‘t have a set plan. I always want to read more Tolkien, but I‘m busy in a way during the summer that makes it hard for me to say I could keep up on leading another read. Maybe I‘ll check in again with readers before we head back to school to see if there‘s interest in reading more this fall. Do you have thoughts on what you‘re interested in reading next? 1mo

Sharing a weird word of the week a day late. I‘ve read The Silmarillion several times but never stopped to figure out exactly what weregild meant until this week. In this case, Isildur kept the one ring as a weregild for his father & brother killed in battle.

weregild: monetary value set for a person and paid to their family or lord if slain; also man price or blood money (noun)

CBee Good one! ☺️ 3mo
CatLass007 I‘ve read the word weregild before, I think it was in one or more of the Harry Dresden books. I never looked up the exact definition, but was able to infer its meaning from the context in which it was used. Thanks for sharing! 3mo
Daisey @CatLass007 I had a reasonably good idea based on context, but the clarification of words I wouldn‘t normally look up is one of the things I love about looking for words to share each week. 3mo

Reading this today.
I've read this story many times, in multiple versions. It's always exceptionally beautiful and moving.
