The book was long (881 pgs.) but was a very interesting read. 1549. Two years after the death of Henry VIII and the economy in collapse, inflation rages and the peasantry are rebelling. Shardlake is in the service of Henry's daughter, Lady Elizabeth. John Boleyn has been arrested for killing his wife. Shardlake is trying to prove his innocence. I look forward to the next book and recommend this series to those who love Historical Mysteries.

Tove_Reads I like it, but wasn‘t my fave in the series. I seem to prefer the books set in London for some reason. The surprise twist in the end that will have an impact on future works was intriguing. Was happy to see Shardlake and Barak working together! Such sad events in the book. (edited) 6y

EadieB @Eggbeater I went to bed @9:00 pm because I was very tired. Got up @ 2:00 am yesterday but I usually read 10 to 12 hrs a day anyway so it was about 5 extra hours a day. I do some audios so that gives the eyes rest too. 7y

I got up at 3:00 am today and read 660 pages in these 3 books. Tombland Is due back at the library tomorrow by 5:00 pm and I have about 300 more pages to read so I need to get early again tomorrow.

Tove_Reads @EadieB I get it. We have 1 week for new books, and they can‘t be put on hold, but we always have 4 week loans as well, and ebooks are 2 weeks. 7y
