The Rachel Incident: A novel | Caroline O'Donoghue
post image

Final quarterfinal and it‘s a doozy! Shocking your hosts a bit, The Rachel Incident takes the final battle. They were tied going into the final two votes we received, which both went for Rachel. Are you surprised by this result like we were? #LitsyToB24

Now it‘s time to vote in the semifinals, and soon we will announce and bring back the zombies, too! 🧟‍♀️ Who are you hoping to see return? Link to vote: https://forms.gle/Hh3Tr8UNQbrsMmH1A

CatLass007 Yes I‘m surprised. I bailed on Rachel. 7d

Bookwormjillk I didn‘t get to Rachel but I will have to soon! Excited to read the book that took down my favorite! 🤞🧟‍♀️ 7d
BarbaraBB I am surprised too! But I did love Rachel too so am happy with either outcome! 7d
AmyG I am not. While I had some trouble wih the first half, I really think it was due to my age….I lost a bit of patience with the foolishness of youth. But I really liked the bookonce the incident happened. I loved All The Sinners Bleed. All of it. 7d
Ruthiella That‘s the joy of this kind of “competition”! Anything can happen. 😆 7d
Suet624 That‘s quite the contrast!! 7d
Megabooks @Ruthiella exactly! It‘s so interesting! 7d
Megabooks @AmyG I preferred Sinners as well for the same reason. It definitely took me longer to get into Rachel‘s world and appreciate where the author was going. 7d
Megabooks @BarbaraBB 👍🏻👍🏻 I was surprised you liked Rachel as much as you did. 7d
Megabooks @Bookwormjillk I know! We were biting our nails as the votes came in! 7d
Megabooks @CatLass007 it was definitely the most surprising result. 7d
Deblovestoread Loved both books but Sinners got the edge because I couldn‘t put it down. Hope to see it the zombie round. 7d
CatLass007 S. A. Cosby is a new must read for me. 7d
Megabooks @CatLass007 yes! I have a couple saved for #AuthorAMonth later this year! 7d
Megabooks @Deblovestoread it was definitely the more propulsive of the two! 7d
CatLass007 I haven‘t got any for #AAM yet. I‘m trying to use the library instead of buying. 7d
BarbaraBB @Megabooks I think Rachel was the right book at the right time. Sinners I read last summer, I know I loved it but the feeling‘s gone a bit after all this time 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7d
MicheleinPhilly BOO! HISS! I‘m salty about this verdict. 7d
kwmg40 I voted for Sinners so I am a little disappointed and surprised, but I also did like Rachel a lot. 7d
Hooked_on_books The only reason I‘m not surprised by this result is because you hinted at it in a comment on Monday‘s matchup, so I was expecting it. And am still not at all happy about it. 7d
Jas16 Wow. I did not see this one coming. 7d
sarahbarnes I loved The Rachel Incident and am happy with this outcome! 7d
Megabooks @kwmg40 this was definitely the shocker of the bunch, but it wouldn‘t be a ToB without one! 7d
Megabooks @Hooked_on_books I enjoyed both books, but Sinners more for sure. Definitely a surprising outcome given that it was the most picked book on who people thought should win. 7d
Megabooks @Jas16 us either! 7d
Megabooks @sarahbarnes great!! 👍🏻👍🏻 7d
Kristy_K I am surprised by this! I enjoyed Sinners more. The books are so different though, they‘re hard to compare. 6d
KarenUK The final four are all books I really liked! So difficult to vote! 🤦‍♀️💕 6d

Finished my #aam today. What an incredibly compelling mystery. The descriptions of Australia in the midst of an intense drought was.... Damn, so horrifying. The mystery was depressing AF and the characters were complicated. I highly enjoyed this and might actually continue the series 🤣🤣

I‘m grateful to #AAM and #bookspin for pushing me to finally read Jane Harper. She‘s been on my radar for years, but something in her book blurbs always left me wondering if she would actually be my style. It turns out I really enjoyed her dry humor, and thought Falk and the cast of surrounding characters were compelling. I did work out the major plot points ahead of the book, which never happens for me! But I‘m interested to read book 2.

AmyG I liked Book 2. 3w
IndoorDame @AmyG awesome! Thanks 😊 3w

It wasn't as though the farm hadn't seen death before, and the blowflies didn't discriminate. #firstlinefridays @ShyBookOwl

vivastory 💙 Jane Harper 3w
IndoorDame @vivastory this is my first by her, but I‘m definitely enjoying it so far! 3w
CatLass007 I‘m listening to this right now for the #AuthorAMonth challenge. I‘ve already listened to The Lost Man for the same challenge. I really enjoy her work. 3w

IndoorDame @CatLass007 I‘ve been meaning to read her work for years and now I am for #aam, I love how this challenge pushes me to read new authors! 3w
CatLass007 I completely agree about reading new authors. I feel the same way about #LiteraryCrew and #SundayBuddyRead. I think my enjoyment of new authors is part of the reason I‘m now overcommitted to buddy reads. But the only one pressuring me is me. 3w
IndoorDame @CatLass007 😆 I get that! I‘m trying to cut back this year but it‘s tough cause I love them 3w
CatLass007 I‘m doing my best to check more books out of the library via Libby or to read what I already have in my Audible library or physical library. If I must buy a book, I try to at least get it from the local used book store. 3w
IndoorDame @CatLass007 that‘s awesome! 3w
CatLass007 It doesn‘t always work but new things take their own sweet time to become habits. 3w
CatLass007 I have a bad habit to add every book I see to my Audible wish list. I need to start adding books to my library holds, even if I‘m only allowed 20 holds at a time. I have created a tag to remind me to check out books that interest me. 3w
IndoorDame @CatLass007 just started using those tags too. Super helpful! 3w

I‘ve been looking forward to Spin Day!!! The numbers picked an audiobook for my #bookspin this month, and I‘d already been planning to grab this on audio from Hoopla for #aam, and something from my living room bookshelf for my #doublespin so I went shelf shopping and found this volume of poetry I‘m super excited about! Thanks Sarah 🩷

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! Enjoy!!! 4w

It‘s March #AuthorAMonth readers! Time to pick up something by Jane Harper. What are you hoping to read?

Now may be a good time to update your Google form tracking your #AAM reads. You may either track your books monthly on the form or once at the end of the year, it makes no difference to me. If you want to start the form now, here is the link to do so:

https://forms.gle/3N5rn4hdF86TXvUFA

All the rules and prize info are on the form.

Soubhiville Reminder to keep the email you get once you start your form, you will need it in order to update throughout the year, or you can wait and fill the whole thing out in December if you‘re keeping track of your books along the way. Your already started form should be available to edit in your Google Drive as well. ⬇️ 4w
Soubhiville #AuthorAMonth is a no-pressure challenge in which we read books by a voted on author each month. Read as many or as few as you like. 4w

February #wrapup #BookspinBingo

I completed my #Bookspin (working on #Doublespin 🎈) and got a bingo! I also read one for February‘s #aam Lauren Groff.

I have not reviewed any of my February reads. 😳

Total: 14
Novels: 3
Graphic Novels: 4
Picture Book: 2
Audio: 5

Reggie Ooooh how was the Ghost Tree. I picked up another by her this past month. 4w
Bookzombie I really enjoyed it. Set in the 80s, girls coming of age, and a small town that seems idyllic but there is something wrong. The best friend drove me crazy but it fit the story. Also, I don‘t feel like this is a spoiler but I didn‘t really expect the racist neighbor part of the story. Which one did you pick up? (edited) 4w

My 2nd Groff for #authoramonth #aam This was an interesting read, all from the perspective of an escaped servant from colonial times as she is fleeing abuse and disease and struggles to survive the wilderness, injury, and being hunted. This is an adventure story that reads like a fable, a mystery and a tragedy all in one. It‘s hard to read, this is dark and depressing but the prose is quite lovely so that made it a pick for me. @Soubhiville

Soubhiville I loved this one, even though it is sad. 1mo
KadaGul @Julsmarshall I had a hard time reading this, so it ended up being DNF. It was along the lines of Fable w/ primitive undertone. What bothered me was when the author ✍️ states choking on a whore or person, not sure exactly. I moved past that but couldn't shake off the imagery or feeling, so I gave up. I am grateful to @Soubhiville for introducing Lauren Groff and organizing #AuthorAMonth 1mo

Read in January. 1995 movie watched today.

I wasn‘t sure I would enjoy this one as much as P&P or Persuasion, but I did. I read in print but also listened to Rosalyn Landor‘s lovely narration. I laughed out loud at some of the character‘s comments and behaviors, mainly the unsavory characters. #aam #authoramonth

dabbe This was my January Austen read, too! I loved it + the movie! ❤️💜🩷 1mo
batsy Kind of becoming my favourite, or second favourite, Austen. Adore the movie! 1mo
Bookzombie @dabbe @batsy Yes, the movie was great. I think this could be my second favorite too. 1mo

Finished my first #aam title! This was fantastic. Some of the stories were fairly disturbing, but overall I highly recommend this. I haven't been able to get into her novels, so I'm pleased I enjoyed this.
