Death on the Green | Catie Murphy
post image
Pickpick

Megan Malone, American now living in Ireland, is immediately entangled in murder from page one, on a gold course. I‘m not a golf fan, so the golfing bits were a bit above my interest level, but I enjoyed the almost flirtatious banter between Megan and at least one of the characters. And, puppies! I may be a cat lover, but it‘s pretty fun to read a cozy with puppies. #192025 #2020 #52BookClub23 #AContemporarySetting #CatsOfLitsy #Zeke #Xander

Mehso-so

Nope, this was really rather annoying, actually. Clearly I‘m not the target market for a book about a millennial who is getting divorced in her late 20s, but still…

I thought the first couple of chapters were OK and mildly amusing, but then it became apparent that the MC had no redeeming qualities whatsoever and was just obnoxious. Some authors can write such characters and you revel in their nastiness, but this wasn‘t one of those cases.

Cinfhen This was a BIG NOPE from @Megabooks too!!! Im taking a #Pass 1y

squirrelbrain I was just about to tag @Megabooks Cindy! @Cinfhen See, I didn‘t like it either Meg. Probably should have panned it but I‘m not that brave! 1y
Oryx I was interested in this one too, but then I saw a few bad reviews here. So this had confirmed it. Not going to bother with this one. 1y
Ruthiella Totally agree, a book about an awful person can be compelling and interesting, but it sounds like it missed the mark. I heard about this book on a podcast where the author was a guest. (edited) 1y
Susanita Okay, your first sentence made me 😂 1y
BarbaraBB 😂😂 I‘ll pass! 1y
squirrelbrain @Oryx @Ruthiella I think the issue was the whole book was rather one-dimensional. It may work for those in their twenties as I‘m sure it would resonate more, but that‘s definitely not me! 🤣 1y
Ruthiella @squirrelbrain The author is also a writer for TV. I wonder if it would work better on screen (think Carrie Bradshaw in SATC). 1y
Megabooks You were much nicer in your review than me 😇, but I 💯💯💯💯 agree! Worst of the year so far for me. 1y
squirrelbrain It could work better on screen, but she was like the bad bits of all of the SATC characters put together, and none of the good! 🤣 @Ruthiella 1y
Librarybelle I just put this on hold at the library. I‘ll enter it with caution once I get it… 1y

Pickpick

Joining the #authoramonth club to read outside my comfort zone & try new authors. I think this is the first book I‘ve read with an Indigenous female main character. An Indie Bookstore is haunted by the ghost of their most annoying customer. Set in Minneapolis during the Pandemic and the George Floyd murder. Not sure I‘ll read more of her works, but this one gave me lots to think about. @Soubhiville

AshleyHoss820 I read Love Medicine by her (my first) and fell in love with her prose. Even if you don‘t read more from her, I‘m so glad you enjoyed this one! ☺️📚 1y
squirrelbrain Glad you liked it! 1y
Cinfhen I find Erdrich to be a hit or miss for me, but this one had a lot to like. I really liked Love Medicine too and 1y

Librarybelle Sounds very interesting! 1y
LaraReads Oh wow! This one sounds really thought provoking! 1y
Bluebird @AshleyHoss820 @Cinfhen I read this one by audio and have since seen several comments that people prefer her work in print instead. So, I may give Love Medicine a try. Thanks! 1y
