Repost for @Cuilin
Tagging #BookedInTime but open to all.
⚠️ This book is dark and detailed as it describes a voyage on a coffin ship during “An Gorta Mor”, the Irish famine. There are mysteries and many moral conflicts. Who‘s in?

I have a fun variety of books to read for #MonthlyNonfiction2025 this month!

Blackbeard the Pirate for #BookedInTime @Cuilin
"... it's all very well planning what you will do in six months, what you will do in a year, but it's no good at all if you don't have a plan for tomorrow."
I thought this was fine. I waited too long to read it and it has won so many awards, it could never live up to the hype.
Overall I love how readable it was, and even with 739 Thomas's it was easy to keep track of who was who, credit to Mandel that is no easy feat.
Do I think Cromwell needed?

I really like Alison Weir but this for me fell a bit flat. Perhaps it‘s because the story adds nothing new to my knowledge of the time and compared to some of the other novels I have read it felt a little fast and at time perfunctory. Henry is a complex character and I feel like we never really see that complexity #bookedintime @Cuilin

ARC - One Day Everyone Will Have Been Against This
Overdue at the library -need to start I Cheerfully Refuse
#BookedInTime & #25in25 starting Wolf Hall
Completed this book for #BookedinTime (Tudor England). I enjoyed the writing style and the story. Although I‘m not sure if I‘m invested enough in the character of Shardlake to continue on with the series. Maybe I‘m a bit curious to see how he fares now that his rose-colored glasses about Cromwell and the Reformation have been removed.

I have mixed feelings about this month's selection. It's an extremely well researched novel, with some interesting details of Queen Elizabeth's rein. However, I felt it was too long and repetitive. They talked about how Elizabeth did not want to get married, and how she held off all her suitors, over and over again.
