Granny-Square Crochet | Catherine Hirst
post image

And because I can‘t just do one thing…. I‘m jumping on the bandwagon.
In addition to Rebecca the knittted #booksnake, I‘m #crocheting granny squares in the colors of each book cover of the books I read this year. I‘ve always wanted a colorful scrappy granny square #bookblanket and I figured this was a great way to do it. #hookersoflitsy

Balibee146 Awesome.... I crocheted a little 40 years ago.... I tried to follow a YouTube total beginner granny square tutorial last week.... Lol... Didn't go well. These are lovely. 2d
ChaoticMissAdventures That is an amazing idea! How much fun! 2d
julesG Noooooo, why??? Now I want to make Granny Squares too. But I have seven (7!!!) works-in-progress lying around. 2d

Aims42 This is a fun idea!! 2d
dabbe 🤩🤩🤩 2d
MaleficentBookDragon @AmyG oh, I‘m not very good. I‘ve attempted crochet for over 40 years with no luck, but now I‘m starting get some things. And I enjoy doing it even if they don‘t look great. 2d
MaleficentBookDragon @Balibee146 I learned a lot from Fiber Flux on YouTube. @fiberflux?si=rpW9Z77Feze4CSer" rel="nofollow" target="_top">https://youtube.com/@fiberflux?si=rpW9Z77Feze4CSer 2d
MaleficentBookDragon @julesG I‘m right there with you. I keep wanting to start new things but haven‘t finished any of my wips. 2d
BookishMadHatter It's already looking great. I have a blanket started with granny squares using scrap yarn, one that's using cotton scraps thats Granny stitch and double crochet, and then my book blanket that I make doing one row per book based on length lol 2d
BookBelle84 I'm currently in a learn to crochet class just for this purpose! 2d

Pickpick

Rebecca the #booksnake is sporting 10 stripes now (I actually frogged her and started her body over and am much happier). This is everything I read in January.

Librarybelle Awesome!!! 3d
TiredLibrarian What a great idea! 3d
maich I love it😍 3d
TheAromaofBooks Sooo adorable!! So are you changing colors based on genre, or based on how much you liked the book, or some other parameter? 3d
MaleficentBookDragon @TheAromaofBooks I‘m changing colors by genre. I have a key that I made to go by. This photo is not great color-wise because thrillers are actually a dark teal while mysteries are a forest green. I do have a fun sparkly yarn that I‘ll add to any 5 ⭐️ books, but I haven‘t read any yet this year. 2d
Meshell1313 Soo cool! Love it! 😍 2d
Zuhkeeyah I found a crochet pattern (because I don't know how to knit) and I plan to make a book snake as well! Rebecca has inspired me. 2d
TheAromaofBooks SO fun!!! 2d
janeycanuck So fun! I started singing “Rebecca the book snake has ten stripes, Rebecca the book snake has ten stripes, Rebecca the book snake has ten stripes so go Rebecca go!” to the tune of Alice the Camel. I need less sugar, I think 1d
MaleficentBookDragon @janeycanuck 😹😹😹 🐍 That is fantastic! And now in my head. 🤪 1d
janeycanuck @MaleficentBookDragon I am here to serve 🤪🤪🤪 1d

Kitta Oh yay! That‘s great I‘ll save it to my ravelry. 1w
Kitta Is the magic loop method hard? I usually use dpns but I don‘t have the right size right now. 1w
MaleficentBookDragon @Kitta I cannot used DPNs. I am not coordinated enough. I used to do magic loop but I tended to get laddering. I found a great alternative. I use FlexiFlips. They are the best of both. I use them for all small circumference knitting. https://youtu.be/IgzMgqT-2Qs 1w
Kitta @MaleficentBookDragon oooh I‘ll check those out! 1w
MaleficentBookDragon @Kitta they are not cheap but I love them. I‘ve also used HiyaHiya Flyers. The metal ones are SHARP, if you like sharper tips. If you get them let me know if you like them. They were a game changer for me. 1w

So with my January #doublespin finished, Rebecca gets her second stripe of the year.
(adding a tongue makes her look a little less goose-like to me😊)
#knittersoflitsy #booksnake

CatLass007 Booksnake? Love it! I don‘t knit. I tried but I had so many crochet projects going that I never had time to practice knitting. Where on earth did you find the pattern? I definitely think the addition of a tongue was the right choice. 1mo

This was okay; not as funny as the first one for me.

And meet Rebeca, the Literary Danger Noodle, with her first book stripe of the year.

And yes, I do see now that she looks a little like a goose from the side. 😔

#booksnake #knittersoflitsy

Larkken 😍 I almost started making one of these book snakes too but did a pivot to a dif craft. I can‘t wait to see your dangernoodle progress 1mo
Bookwormjillk That‘s awesome 👏 1mo
MaleficentBookDragon @Butterfinger these are the genre colors for my snake (though it‘s early enough that I‘m still tweaking them; I‘m never satisfied with my crafts and art.🙈) 1mo
Butterfinger I love it. And, you are knitting in the round. Just love it. 1mo

After filming my unboxing (it‘s pretty amateur, LOL, but you can watch it over on Instagram if you want! I‘m alisonrose711 over there) for the @owlcrate limited edition box for #thequeenofnothing I just couldn‘t wait to actually read the book, and I have a feeling I might just blow through the whole thing today. (Also, hi #booksnake! 🐍)
