pickThis is such a great series. Bryant, May, and all of the staff at the Peculiar Crimes Unit are well-developed, complex characters. The crimes they seek to solve are often bizarre, at least on the surface. There‘s never a straight line to the solution, no matter how twisted or banal it may be.
pickVery much enjoyed this mystery set in WW2 London. Its probably a common trope to have a pair of detectives, one sensible and one eccentric and misunderstood but the setting made it more interesting. There was a little sexism, some of which was due to the setting, but hopefully thats handled better in the rest of the series because I‘m keen to try more.
pickIt‘s been 7 years since I read book 2, but this jumped out at me when I went shopping my bookshelves for my next read and I‘m so glad. This is a well-crafted, complex mystery with interesting characters. There are a few plot points that feel superfluous and unnecessary, but overall I enjoyed it. It was exactly what I wanted to read - compulsively readable without being either fluffy or oppressive.

pickAnother book in the Peculiar Crimes Unit. These books also delve into aspects of London which I am not familiar with - in this case the lost rivers which are now underground. A little meandering at times but the dry wit does help me through.
I think this might be my favourite Peculiar Crimes Unit book so far. Such a good book for a snowy day, and definitely fits this #AestheticallyMatched photo ❄ ❄ ❄
pickA friend of mine recommended this series and lent me a few to start with. Seems like a pretty solid British detective series. I was a bit concerned with all the characters but I was able to keep everyone straight and follow through the twists and turns. Pretty good! #screamathon
pickOh how I love this series and the writing of Christopher Fowler. This did not disappoint. He gives me interesting facts about London and it‘s history, peppers his writing with words I have to look up. Has the most endearing characters that have developed over time. His books are a joy to read. And I never guess the ending. Why this has not been picked up for a tv series is a mystery. It would be wonderful.

so-soSo I liked this book, but didn‘t love it. I liked the London Blitz setting, the bizarre series of crimes, and the dark humour, and the characters grew on me. However, there was so much going on that the main story got a bit lost and the pacing was uneven. Saying that... this series has got potential and I‘m intrigued enough to read the next. #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
