This is a good system, I think better designed for puppies that really care about their people than Akitas (they are very independent) but still has some useful information and training options.
3/5 stars informative and helpful with lots of photos and exercise suggestions

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle | David Wroblewski
post image

Two books, going backwards. I just finished the prequel to The Book of Edgar Sawtelle, which I first read in 2008. After waiting 16 years for this, it was everything I needed, excessive at times. I need to ponder Familiaris a bit before I can really review it - meanwhile I want to take another run at the original.

This is a good book, written with some excellent training suggestions and examples. I am particularly excited to try the barking reduction technique as Castle is extremely barky for an Akita.
The author does tend to wander a bit in subject matter and some of the research he uses is outdated, but his theory and suggestions are sound.
3.5/5 read for a very thorough book on dog language and how to better communicate. I recommend this book 😊💜🐕

I loved this book. I found the information very helpful and informative. Brandon had some good tips about training a dog and also how to solve the behavior problems. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a dog. I love the show too.

How this reader is dealing with a puppy to be joining our family in August! 🐶😅

Bookwomble Exciting! 😆🐶 Have you picked a name yet? 10mo
Karisa @Bookwomble Yep! My son picked out the name Stoic. He liked the Roman philosophy when he learned about it in the sixth grade and said he‘d name his dog that two years ago! 10mo
Bookwomble @Karisa Really held to his decision! 😄 Cool name, too 😎 10mo

The dog stuff is cute, but otherwise this book is terrible. I will never read this author again.

After retiring, psychology professor John Pilley got a border collie puppy and started working intensively with her. She eventually learned the names of over 1000 objects and learned various actions related to them. Here he discussing their time together and sneaks in lots of great info about learning. This is a great book and Chaser was very much alive when it was written, so you don‘t have to worry about living through her death at the end.

SamAnne I might have to pick this one up. I love border collies and my dog, soulmate is Action Jackson. I followed this story. (edited) 2y

How Dogs Learn | Mary R. Burch, Jon S. Bailey, PhD.
Pickpick

This is another assigned reading from the Fall 2021 semester. Mary R. Burch gives concise and straightforward information in each chapter that I thought made it easier to read than the average textbook.

This was an assigned textbook for my canine class in the Fall 2021 semester. Even though it was assigned reading, I thought this book was very informative and it‘s definitely a textbook I‘m going to be keeping around for a while. #dogtraining
