Vansa Terrible book! Pretentious and just way too precious. It doesn't have even a sensible story! 3y

Mehso-so

#unpopularopinion: super disappointed. Yes, it chews through deep, profound, universal thoughts and yet it remains...vanilla? Yes, the writing‘s decent & the protagonist relatable. But is it TOO pleasant? This is so SO(!) utterly predictable. Haig usually knows how to infuse his narratives with whimsy & finesse while tackling THE BIG❓s. But this felt like a hallmark movie that you only kept watching because you knew the actor from something else.

julesG Oh-oh! I guess my verdict will be similar. 3y
MicheleinPhilly Uh oh. This is my work book club pick for this month. 😕 3y
Heideschrampf @MicheleinPhilly @julesG i‘m not saying it‘s bad. For me (and i can relate to depression and self-doubt a lot) this didn‘t do the trick. But maybe it‘s just a case of #dontbelievethehype 3y

Super disappointed. Not badly written, but veeeery predictable. And so many missed chances to further explore topics like the role of psychotherapy in society, its place and funding in the health care system, the believability of female victioms of crimes, paternization etc... why this was voted goodreads thriller of the year, i really don‘t know #dontbelievethehype

magyklyXdelish It‘s been a while since I‘ve seen another review on this book I agree with! Welcome to the minority 😂😂😂 4y

Pickpick

Just like the authors, we saved the best for last. So it might come as no surprise since this is award #3 this year...

But Daisy Jones is also taking home the #LitsyAward for the best Fiction book of 2019.

Happy reading everyone.

SaturnDoo @ljuliel 😂😂 I'm in the #unpopularopinion & #dontbelievethehype groups on this one. 4y
ljuliel @SaturnDoo That‘s ok. 🙂 We don‘t all like the same books. If we did, it‘d be a boring world. I bought this in audio when it first came out, so I guess one of these days I‘ll give it a listen to see what I think. 4y
SaturnDoo @ljuliel I haven't listened to the audio but have been told it's so much better than reading the book. Maybe someday I'll listen. 😊 4y
ljuliel I sorta thought by the sounds of how it was written that the print wouldn‘t do it justice. It sounds like it should be done in audio, like live interviews ? I‘m not sure. We shall see one of these days. I like audiobooks with multiple narrators. @saturndoo (edited) 4y
marleed I loved both formats! 4y

Another disappointment, even worse than Into the Water. The culprit super obvious, way too many voices trying to add their superflous perspectives, and yet again the motto of "All men are basterds, all women meant well but fucked up". As average TV-mystery this might work, but holds no more content than a 90min flick. #dontbelievethehype

TrishB I didn‘t like it either 🤷‍♀️ 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Totally agree!!!! 5y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I hate this book, like a lot. 😂 5y
Heideschrampf @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TrishB i'm always glad to hear i'm not the only one when i don't like a bestseller. And this one is just aweful 5y

Super disappointed by this. This was a very shallow, very forced mystery with one-dimensional protagonists and the quintessence "all men are basterds, all women mean well but do harm". Also there were quite a few questionable choices by the audiobook narrators. #dontbelievethehype

SaturnDoo Ohhhh I ❤ that hashtag. 🤣😂 So many overhyped books I could use that with 😊 5y
Heideschrampf @SaturnDoo i was very surprised no one had used it yet! 5y
SaturnDoo @Heideschrampf I really am too now that you mention it. By honestly I didn't think about it but glad you did though 😂😁 thanks for getting it started ❤💜 5y
