An endearing romantic comedy from the beloved best-selling author ofThe Family Man andThe View from Penthouse B At thirty-two, Faith Frankel has returned to her claustro-suburban hometown, where she writes institutional thank-you notes for her alma mater. It's a peaceful life, really, and surely with her recent purchase of a sweet bungalow on Turpentine Lane her life is finally on track. Never mind that her fianc is off on a crowdfunded cross-country walk, too busy to return her texts (but not too busy to post photos of himself with a different woman in every state. And never mindher witless boss, or a mother who lives too close, or a philandering father who thinks he's Chagall. When she finds some mysterious artifacts in the attic of her new home, she wonders whether anything in her life is as it seems. What good fortune, then, that Faith has found a friend in affable, collegial Nick Franconi, officemate par excellence . . . Elinor Lipman may well have invented the screwball romantic comedy for our era, and here she is at her sharpest and best. On Turpentine Lane is funny, poignant, and a little bit outrageous.

Faith‘s fiance embarks on a walking trip to the west coast to give free hugs and find himself. In the meantime, she buys a small house with a mysterious past while dealing with upheaval in her immediate family. An enjoyable read but I‘m sure it is one I won‘t remember. 3.25 🌟

Picked this up years ago in a charity shop and never read it. The last 2 months have been hectic, so I decided to finally read this shorter book to get me back into reading again. Not bad, some of the grammar isn't the best and it jumps around a bit, but overall I did enjoy it. Everyone enjoys a bit of "chick lit" with some love and drama from time to time

This was a delightful surprise! Quirky, a little mysterious, a little romantic, a little snarky. I will definitely read more by Elinor Lipman!

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

Quirky book with a little romance, a little mystery, and characters that were entertaining. The romance part became a bit too predictable for me, but I wanted a lighter read and this definitely fit that requirement.

TheAromaofBooks Oh I quite like this cover as well!! 3y
Reggie Lol, this book was ok but the romance in here was the most underwhelming one I‘ve ever read. ‘Hey can I be your roommate l?‘ ‘Sure‘ 3y

This audiobook just wasn‘t for me. Perhaps it suffered by comparison to Miracle Creek, which I am currently reading, but I found it far too simplistic and predictable. Also, the narration (Mia Barron) grated my nerves...which never helps. Ending tied all up in a nice, shiny, unrealistic bow. 🙄

Is it worth it to try another book by Lipman?

Here‘s what I read in June. For my #BookFitnessChallenge I finished two which is my goal, walked a lot, did yoga and OTF twice. Not bad but room for improvement next week. My Fitbit is acting up so no steps to report. #BFC #BFCR2. Positive thoughts to all participants for week 2!

After hearing Anne Bogel talk about Elinor Lipman on her latest podcast episode, I took this one home from my library and I was not disappointed! I loved every page of this charming, hilarious story about 32-year-old Faith, who is navigating her romantic life while dealing with her family members, her career, and a mysterious crime that took place in her new house.

Megabooks Her books are so fun! I‘ve read all of them and only one I didn‘t like. 5y

Perfect cover for this book: depicts an upside down house with people and items flinging haphazardly about. Quick, humorous, entertaining read, with romantic comedy. Faith Frankel‘s life literally turns upside down with purchase of her new home. Her fiancé is in mid life crisis post surgery, walking the US to find himself, dead baby pics emerge from the attic. Features quirky, zany characters, snappy, sharp dialogue- an easy read.

Reggie Did you feel like the romance between her and her coworker was a bit underwhelming? Like “Hey, you need a roommate?” “Yes, I do.” “Alright, we‘re together.” Lol idk. 7y
kspenmoll @Reggie Yes & it was predictable! 7y

So some of the reviews said there was no plot and I can understand why. Its more like a year in the life of Faith Frankel, a worry wart MC if there ever was one and all the silly, zany, things that happen to her. Also thrown in here was one of the most subtle and underwhelming romances I have ever read. ( no, please stop trying to oversell this book, lol) However, the narrative manages to propel itself and I didn't stop reading it. Its a pick.

TrishB Great review 😀 Don't think I've seen worry wart in a review before! 👍 7y

Power outages are good for something. Finished this book by the fire, under a thick afghan, before nightfall. GREETINGS from MICHIGAN!
This is a fun rom-com about a humble young woman and the trials that ensue after she purchases a house that was the sight of former crime scenes. Lucky for her, she's got her hunky live-in co-worker to help her see things through.

Faith‘s life isn't going the way she hoped- her fiancé is walking across the country to ‘find himself‘, her newly retired father moves to Boston to paint leaving her mother at home & at work she could end in probation or worse plus in her new house she discovers pictures of dead babies. But sometimes life's curve balls lead to something good & maybe her newly single friend Nick crashing in her spare room means things are looking up.

Finished my first book of February! This lovely romantic comedy was definitely a much needed distraction. What I enjoyed most about this novel is that it's not a typical romantic comedy, it's quirky and smart not to mention the characters really stick with you even after you put the book down. One I'd definitely recommend.
