Pond lights at the Botanic Garden's Lightscape exhibit. I could make a dozen posts just with photos of this outing, but I am exercising self control. #beautybreak

The premise of this story sounded promising and the writing was beautiful from the start but the story? Weird, boring, and did not keep my interest at all. I skimmed from the middle to end. I don‘t even know why I finished because the ending was just as terrible.

Ruthiella Oh, I hated this book so much after the first chapter. 😂 3mo
Susanita I tried three times to read this book and never even got very far. 3mo
Bec_lectic @Ruthiella same here!! At first I was like this may be good than after the first chapter it took a nose dive! I still can‘t believe I made it to the end. 3mo
Bec_lectic @Susanita three times…you‘re out lol! Don‘t bother trying again. I still can‘t believed I bothered to skim it to the end. 3mo

Mehso-so

Largely a coming-of-age novel, I found myself more drawn to Kiwi‘s stories vs Ava‘s narration, although the latter is written prettier. I found the dialogue, especially Kiwi‘s “friends” and coworkers to be fairly unbelievable, like what a Boomer thinks “the youth” is saying. But there‘s a turn here that really clarified the novel‘s intent, the temporary nature of innocence and moving forward when your body is not ready.

As a #longtimefed I served under 7 POTUS. I only voted for 3 of them, but I did my job the same regardless. I took an oath to uphold the Constitution when I first joined the government and every time I moved to another office. My employer was the American people and not POTUS.

Higher level managers and administrators are already political appointees. There‘s no need to root out the “disloyal” employees. The result would be the real “deep state.”

Chelsea.Poole Thank you for sharing. 9mo
Leftcoastzen I worked as a contract worker for NPS & also a NPO connected to a historical park. This is insanity. All workers I knew could have made more money in private sector, service was part of the job that made it more meaningful! 9mo
Leftcoastzen They are not hiring seasonal workers for places like Yosemite & Yellowstone which cannot function w/o them. Did not catch where , was listening to NPR . They didn‘t hire seasonal firefighters so a prescribed burn to protect wild/urban interface is abandoned. It was the only window to do the prescribed burn till next year , obviously raised risk for everyone. 9mo

Susanita @Leftcoastzen You‘re kind of stealing my thunder for future posts 😉 but that‘s okay! I was pleased (if that‘s the right word under the circumstances) that some of the protests this week happened at NPS sites such as the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. 9mo
Leftcoastzen Yosemite too! It‘s been many years so probably won‘t be stealing too much of your thunder! 😏 6k IRS workers, really?! 9mo
Susanita @Leftcoastzen Laying off IRS workers in the middle of tax season! WTAF! They are the weirdest mix of unspeakably evil and unbelievably stupid. 9mo
Leftcoastzen I hate the thought but starting to think the goal is totally break it , declare martial law . 9mo

Wow. An amazing book. Between the constant cycle of mysteries being solved and bringing up only more mysteries as well as the character development, it's been an amazing read. The action scenes are well written and everything in between has so much life to it. Totally a pick.

Hideout | Watt Key

I'm almost finished with my second book, called Behind The Lines. Just revising and editing. Of course, right when I finish, I get all of this inspiration suddenly. The book I'm reading, Hideout, by Watt Key, has been a big boost. This second book is about our characters stuck behind enemy lines. Whether it's Zach's constant worry, Winter's optimistic attitude, or Jackson's readiness for action, this book is gonna turn out great.

mrferro88 That's awesome, Ben! Glad you're finding inspiration in the books you're reading. And thank you for those character snippets. It sounds like a good read! 10mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A story of knowing what you don‘t want, rather than what you do. Three generations of tough, somewhat shunned, women, all unique in their strengths. Dorothy, aka Donkey, steals the show. I loved the symbolism of the rattler. An ouroboros; the circle of life. I picked this up after hearing Campbell speak at Southern Festival of Books. She‘s so sharp and funny! Meeting her was an absolute pleasure. Will def read more from her!

Well written, but rather strange story of a swamp-living family and a search for resolution after grief. Kind of blunt and somewhat off-putting in a poetic way.
Could be a little shorter too. It took me a while to read.
