An Event in Autumn | Henning Mankell

Pickpick

Wallander found a farmhouse in the country he likes & is about to make an offer to buy it when he stumbles over a human hand in the backyard. The hand belonged to a woman in her fifties but her identity is unknown. Wallander & his colleagues now have to find out who the woman was & who killed her. The fact that she died after WW2 makes that more difficult. The story also focuses on Wallander‘s thoughts on ageing & retirement, end of life.

It‘s been a while since I read a Nordic Noir, and I enjoyed this! We know from the start who the killer is and parts of the why, then watch the cat and mouse game unfold alongside the rather gruesome deaths. This is my second read from Mankell and I would read more.

Leftcoastzen I have a couple of his books, need to get to them!🐶 7mo

Librariana Dog math = if Mom is having a snack and I am the GOODEST pupper... you multiply it by the amount of love she has for me.... add tax.... subtract shipping and handling... adjust for inflation... I should *easily* see about 42 treatos 7mo

I spent a good part of today listening to this murder mystery set in Sweden while working around the house. It‘s the first book of the Wallander series and I can see myself picking up another sometime, although I know I will never make my way through all of them. It is a great winter listen if you want something bleakly realistic rather than cozy.

So a sad farewell to Kurt Wallender. A great last bow as he investigates the disappearance of daughter Linda's partners father, an ex naval commander. With a huge dose of cold War intrigue, I enjoyed this story, that involves soviet submarines and spys, while also noticing the detective's increasingly poignant loss of memory. At last I can try the TV series
I've put this in for #MarvellousMay @Andrew65 + hope to rd another bk before Saturday

Andrew65 Sounds a great ending, I am yet to start this series. Well done 👏👏👏 (edited) 2y

Not my favourite Wallander book so far. Too many nonsensical decisions by Wallander this time around for me. But an ok read nonetheless.

Faceless Killers | Henning Mankell

I really enjoy Mankell. All of his novels are outstanding. The hero is so human, flawed, unsure of himself.

Again my 5* rd is not the one I'm picking today and I have gone with an old friend in wallander. I've put off getting to the final in this series because it would feel like leaving behind a character that has kept me entertained for yrs despite how grumpy he was. Then I found this off shoot about Linda , his daughter, and am just sorry that henning mankell couldn't continue this thread. I'll say bye to kurt in 2022.

andrew61 And an excuse to showcase a dog unusually well groomed for once instead of his usual gnasher like appearance. 3y

I have never read a crime fiction as grounded as this with the pace and tone of the narrative as close to realism. #mystery #crimefiction

I‘ve finished the 2nd Wallander book. It‘s not Mankell‘s best book but still a ‘pick‘ I liked that it was mainly set in Latvia. Made a nice change.
