Cathythoughts @squirrelbrain Me too Helen ! Exciting 📚🥰.... this will be a fun year 8h
Cathythoughts @squirrelbrain I wonder if a book fits both challenge prompts can you use it for both 🤔or is that cheating ... 8h
squirrelbrain No that‘s not cheating @cathythoughts - lots of people do that. I‘ve already started picking out some books for next year and some of them double up...it‘s the best way! 8h
Cathythoughts @squirrelbrain ok good to know .... my poor brain will be addled 🥴😆 8h
batsy #readingeurope sounds good and #booked2020 too... I'm contemplating 🤩 7h
Cathythoughts @batsy oh brilliant Suba !! I hope you do these too .... 👍🏻❤️ 7h
BarbaraBB We just posted the announcement. So happy we‘re going to read Europe together next year! I hope you‘ll join too @batsy 🙏 6h
erzascarletbookgasm I am tempted #readingeurope but am afraid I might be signing up for too many challenges 🤔 6h
Cathythoughts @batsy @erzascarletbookgasm @BarbaraBB I just dived in 👍🏻signed up & all. 🥳 6h
erzascarletbookgasm 👏 so exciting Cathy! I took a peep at the sign up form. Most likely I won‘t join because I would have difficulty accessing books for some countries. 😔 6h
Cathythoughts @erzascarletbookgasm I‘m aiming to complete #Booked2020 ... I‘m aiming to do my best with the #readingeurope ..... I can help you Jessie , if you want to do it, I could send you books ... I‘d be delighted to ! 6h
Crazeedi How do you keep things organized if your signed up for different challenges? I just seem to get confused and then give up. Ims doing #booked2020 (I think I signed up for it?) Oh my how to keep track!!!! 5h
Cathythoughts @Crazeedi I‘m doing #booked2020 👍🏻 & I‘m going to make an attempt at #readingeurope 🤞🏻. And that‘s it ... and I know I‘ll get confused 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I‘ll give it a go 5h
erzascarletbookgasm That‘s so sweet of you Cathy, but that‘s too much! I can‘t have you do that, the postage costs will kill you! 😅But thank you, my friend. 😘 3h
erzascarletbookgasm How are you planning to read books from all over Europe @batsy if you‘re doing the challenge at all? 3h
batsy @erzascarletbookgasm I'll see if I can get them in print or Kindle, Jessie. I'm counting on having a few on my shelf from a previous #litsypassport challenge that never got off the ground. And if I can't access certain books, I'll just skip those countries. I'm planning a laid back challenge 😘 3h
batsy @erzascarletbookgasm If you're doing the challenge and I have a book that you want to read, I can send it to you too, we can work out a schedule 🙂 3h
erzascarletbookgasm @batsy That‘s a good idea, taking it as a laid back challenge. 👍❤️Hope you find some books from your previous challenge! 3h
Cathythoughts @batsy @erzascarletbookgasm yes! ExActly , a laid back challenge! I have no problem sending on a few books if ye need them 👍🏻❤️ 2h
batsy Thank you for offering Cathy, that's very kind of you ❤️❤️ I'm already doing "research" to see what books to use ... the best part ? 55m

This is the first in the series featuring Swedish police detective Kurt Wallander, who is one hot mess. He totally gives off the #RescueMe vibe, as he investigates the brutal murder of an elderly couple while battling personal demons of his own making. The translation from Swedish was dicey in parts, but I like flawed characters, and Wallander is definitely one. I‘ll continue with the series for sure! #Movember

Once again, an ambitious #WeeklyForecast stack! I‘ll continue to read November Road and should start at least The Ripper‘s Shadow and Golem for various book clubs/swaps. A New Earth I‘ll listen to while doing things around the house.

Not pictured - must finish tagged book today. I also have the audiobook Bowled Over I‘m listening to in the car. My hope is to start either a #NetGalley book or a nonfiction ebook for #NFNov .

I may change my mind!

Librarybelle The top for titles are definite nonfiction for #NFNov . 2w

This is the actual first book in the Wallander series - I just finished it and it is a great start for this series; I'm looking forward to next one. But in the meantime, I will make a detour to first Harry Hole book: The Bat by Jo Nesbo.

”Ragged clouds raced across the sky, and the wind was gusting up to gale force. After waking at dawn, Wallander lay in bed for a long time and listened to the wind. When he stepped on the #scale in the bathroom, he saw that he had lost another 2 pounds. This cheered him up so much that when he pulled into the parking lot at the police station he did not have the sense of despondency he‘d been feeling lately.”

Another week, another mystery #bookclub meeting. We were varying degrees of indifferent about this one. I liked it but didn‘t love it. A bit gloomy and had some random bits that were maybe just there as fodder for later in the series?

This was my choice for s book set in Scandinavia for #popsugarreadingchallenge and also for the #LetterM for #LitsyAtoZ (in translation). It is a solid procedural, very gloomy and a little claustrophobic at times. It was written in the 1990s so there some odd sexism and some fear of immigrants that wasn‘t fun to read, but I would check out some of the more recent books about this detective to see if that gets any better.

I need to read more Scandinavian crime novels, because every time I do I enjoy them. They have a lot of depth and the mysteries are complex. This one also reminded me that anti-immigration sentiment is an issue everywhere and seems to return often in history.

myellenbee I really like the books by Arnaldur Indridason which take place in Iceland, another author from Iceland is Yrsa Sigurdardottir the one I've read is I Remember You: A Ghost story. And of course The 100 Year-Old Man Who Crawled Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. 11mo

Another Nordic crime series for #winterkills . Nordic crime writers seem to dominate the genre when it comes to some of the most chilling mysteries and crimes in fiction. This Swedish crime wrriter, children's author, and dramatist, is best known for his creation of Inspector Kurt Wallander.

Maybe I need to give the mystery/thriller genre a break. The last few I‘ve read have left me underwhelmed. This wasn‘t terrible; the story moved well, the location was interesting, and the main character is interestingly imperfect. Enough for me to give the second book in the series a try.

An atmospheric murder mystery set in Sweden, this one was a good fit to read while in Iceland. The novel is much more about detective Wallander than the mystery itself, but I was expecting that, so I enjoyed it.

I'm listening to this while #audiostitching When I chose to read this three weeks ago, I had no idea there was a portion of the story related to negative views of refugees and how politically polarizing. This was first released in 1991, and the arguments haven't changed, despite time and geography. The only difference is how leadership ultimately handled it.

My first Mankell. Not bad, not great. Probably one of those series that take a few books to warm up.

Sue I was so disappointed with this book, having loved the Wallander series with Kenneth Branagh. The main character's tendency to assess all the female characters by the virtue of their sex appeal left me cold. 3y
