USA Today bestselling author Helen Hoang returns with a witty and sizzling new romance that shows how wrong you can be about someone...and how right they can be for you. To most people, Quan Diep is nothing but a surly-looking, underachieving playboy. The problem is he's not any of those things. And now that he's the CEO of an up-and-coming retail business, he's suddenly a "catch," and the rich girls who never used to pay any attention to him are looking at him in a new way--especially Camilla, the girl who brushed him off many years ago. Anna Sun dislikes Quan Diep almost as much as germy bathroom door handles. Or so she tells herself. She will never admit that she has a secret crush on him, especially because he only has eyes for her charismatic and newly engaged younger sister Camilla. Over the years, Anna has worked hard to overcome her OCD, but she'll still need to find a way to bury her anxieties and seduce Quan so he doesn't ruin her sister's engagement, and with it, a crucial real estate development deal. Slowly, Anna breaks down Quan's dangerous and careless exterior while peeling off her own tough, protective shell. But when Quan discovers Anna's true intentions, he's forced to confront his own hurtful past and learn to forgive, while Anna must face her greatest challenge: truly opening herself up to love.

Forgot I read this on vacation last week too! Really enjoyed it, despite the romance taking a back seat to other issues for a bit in the middle. My heart broke for Anna a bit (a lot) as she comes to learn new things about herself…. And her family.

I treated myself to a new book nook kit as an early birthday present. I think this speakeasy is my favourite one yet.

Likewise, I‘ve enjoyed each of Helen Hoang‘s books more than the one before, and THE HEART PRINCIPLE absolutely blew me away. It‘s a gripping dive into toxic family structures and the intense pressure that comes when the people who should love and protect you refuse to even consider your needs. Wow. #audiocrafting

This book was so good. I loved Anna as a strong main character and Quan as her counterpart. They both are dealing with several personal issues, but it‘s beautiful how they come together to support each other. I also loved Helen Hoang‘s other stories and the autism rep in each!

The Kiss Quotient is one of my favorite romances ever, and this one did not disappoint either! I felt so much for Anna as she tried to navigate her struggles, and Quan was her perfect counterpart. And he‘s totally swoonworthy! And Michael and Stella from TKQ make appearances!

This is so much more than a rom-com! Yes, there‘s a romance to root for & plenty of steamy scenes, but it‘s also about the evolution of Anna & Quan. They have major life struggles to face, & they come to accept themselves throughout the process.

The book is heavier than Hoang‘s others as Anna has to care for an aging father and unsupportive family. But, these struggles were so important for Anna‘s growth.
This is one of my new favorites!

Ddzmini Need to get this I‘ve already read the first two and loved them 💁🏼‍♀️ 11mo

Anna is a burnt out violinist whose boyfriend springs on her he wants an open relationship. She searches for a 1-night stand & comes across Quan. While he helps her get over her sexual & personal anxieties, their feelings grow past casual. Will they become more?

I liked this one better than the 2nd one. It had a tiny bit more spice & I liked the characters a little more. I also still liked the diversity in characters.

After her boyfriend opens their relationship, Anna joins a dating app intending to have a string of one-night stands.
Quan decides to get back in the dating scene after a recovering from cancer and likes the no-strings-attached night of fun Anna wants.
When their first, second, and third attempts fail, they fall into something deeper.
Anna‘s undiagnosed autism felt so real it drew me in and Quan is a cinnamon roll. My favorite of Hoang‘s books.

I was really nervous for this one because so many people said it wasn‘t as good as the others. I loved it, personally. I couldn‘t stand Anna‘s sister or family, but I enjoyed her mother coming around at the end. I loved Seeing Quan again. I wanted to give him a cuddle when it came out that he had cancer. He‘s so sweet. It was fun seeing Michael. He was in this one a lot. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics I kept hoping that Quan would introduce Anna to Stella, but it didn‘t happen, at least not that we saw. There was even a little bit of Khai. 1y

julesG Can't remember. I hated Anna's family so much that overshadowed the whole book/review. 1y
GingerAntics @julesG I was feeling that, but since I‘ve gotten past that part, I‘m actually proud of her for continuing to stand up to her sister. Pricilla deserves to be told off repeatedly until she feels the way she used to make Anna feel. 1y

This isn‘t exactly the response I got. Mine was more like “but you‘re nothing like Rainman.” 🤦🏼‍♀️ If one more person compares me to Rainman, I‘m going to lose it. Congratulations Captain Obvious, I‘m not a man with amazing visual mathematics skills. That first one should have been pretty damn obvious, I think the second is also obvious, but what do I know. 100%, my family believes I‘m not autistic.

julesG Yepp. Got similar responses. Plus, I can't have MS since I'm not bound to a wheelchair. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 1y
kspenmoll As you know, Autism manifests itself differently in women & often is not recognized until later in life. And it certainly is a wide spectrum. My son‘s a text book case- was reading at three( road signs first), could get us from A to Z on any road that he had traveled on once before, social skills & motor issues a big clue. He is the most caring, kind, present, marvelous son who has found his freedom in releasing himself from a goal of “fitting in”. 1y

quietlycuriouskate So, there I was, hugely relieved (albeit shocked at nearly 50) to discover there's a reason for my lifelong difficulties and I'm not just freakishly inept and my husband actually said, "you don't have to be this way, though: brains can change." ? 1y
GingerAntics @julesG oh FFS that is NOT how that works. It‘s MS that puts people in wheelchairs (if you have the right kind, apparently the other kind doesn‘t), not the wheelchair giving people MS! FOR. THE. LOVE!!! 🤬🥃 🤦🏼‍♀️ 1y
GingerAntics @kspenmoll LOVE your son for finding himself in giving up fitting in. I have a lot of those symptoms actually. For the longest time I joked that if I had been born 10-15 years later, I would have been diagnosed with autism. Never thought I‘d be diagnosed at 36. 1y
GingerAntics @kathedron OH FFS NO THEY CANNOT!!! Yes, brains can rewire themselves after injury, even rather severe injury. In that sense, they are very plastic and amazing. They can‘t just magically change their own chemistry, and autism is not just in the brain!!! I would have threatened him with divorce papers. Like Quan said “none of all this nonsense matters. If it helps you understand yourself and helps you feel understood and seen… (edited) 1y
GingerAntics @kathedron … that‘s all that matters.” You seriously are amazing to not have slapped him upside the head and left him for that. “Sure you are inherently this way, but you can choose to change the core of your being if you want to enough.” 🤬🥃🤬 He‘s one of those geniuses that thinks you can make yourself not clinically depressed or clinically anxious just by thinking happy thoughts, isn‘t he? I can‘t even with this crap! Big hugs!!! 1y
GingerAntics @kathedron you are an amazingly, beautiful, wonderfully autistic person. Why would you ever want to give up all the plus sides just to make other people happy? 🤬 that. 1y
GingerAntics @julesG @kspenmoll @kathedron here I was, afraid to “come out autistic” to people and of course I would find my people on Litsy! (I have to admit, I‘ve found some people on IG, too.) I love this all so much!!! I love all of you so much, too!!! 🧡🧡🧡 1y
quietlycuriouskate @GingerAntics Thing is, he's prone to depression so he knows how bloody hard it is. I get that he doesn't want me to limit my options by adopting a label but he fails to see how, in this case, it can actually be liberating. God knows I'm exhausted trying to teach myself to act NT my whole life! What riles me is, he'd NEVER say, "you don't have to be queer: brains can change" but my ND status is a whole other story. 1y
quietlycuriouskate Once again, the Litsy community proves itself to be somewhere I feel safe showing up as my real self. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤️ 1y
GingerAntics @kathedron okay, so there is room for some redemption there. Hm. It‘s frustrating that his depression technically labels him as neurodivergent as well. It seems odd he would so easily dismiss someone else‘s ND status. Oh I hate having to fake being NT. I recently read about autistic burnout and it is such a good description. Sometimes, I just need time and space to nap and be ND to the fullest. 1y

GingerAntics @kspenmoll I am seriously loving this one. I loved the first two, but heard mixed-leaning-toward-negative reviews about this one. I am not getting anything negative from this one at all. 1y
kspenmoll @GingerAntics In my experience, her portrayal of a female with Autism is so accurate. 1y

Quan♥️did not disappoint! 🥵 🌶️That said, Anna, I had a hard time with. While I understood many of her quirks & struggles due 2 being on the autism spectrum, her actual personality got on my nerves & I loathed her family

Important things for me started spiraling out of control today, when it got too cumbersome, I turned to the book. Interestingly enough, Anna and Quan‘s life was very much in the same spiral. I used their confidence and growth to remain positive and face tasks one at a time. This book is wonderful. It sheds a great light on autism and I love that it is that of a grown woman and her discovery of her true self. This book was everything I needed.

I don‘t try to stop. I let the tears fall. I cry for the girl I used to be. I cry for me. It‘s a foreign experience. Self-pity is not an indulgence that I allow myself. This doesn‘t feel like pity, though. It feels like self-compassion, and the realisation makes me cry harder.

Her suggestion that I try it with family, however, is ridiculous. Family is not safe. Not for me. Tough love is brutally honest and hurts you to help you. Tough love cuts you when you‘re already bruised and berates you when you don‘t heal faster.

I mostly read “serious literary fiction“ but I am totally a sucker for Helen Hoang‘s books and characters. I absolutely loved this book. And as a professional musician I have to say that she did a great job with the musical aspects of this book. Usually books with professional classical musicians as characters make me cringe because they are just hilariously inaccurate, but she did a great job here.

kspenmoll I so enjoyed this book too- it was my first by this author! Great review! (edited) 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Third book in the Kiss Quotient romance series, you don‘t need to have read the other 2. This was an amazing book! There weren‘t many romance scenes for a romance book but that didn‘t bother me. It was really a book about a women receiving a late in life autism diagnosis and discovering who she is and finding her voice. The romance was incidental.

I needed to be prepared for the emotional hits. It was definitely a different vibe than the first two books in the series. It‘s more of a focus on family, Anna‘s journey through her diagnosis and Quan‘s journey to healing.

I loved the book. I felt so much while reading. The pain and frustration is consuming in parts. Definitely read Hoang‘s author note at the end, it explains so much about how this book went and made it even more meaningful .

The Heart Principle follows both Anna and Quan. Two people that meet on a dating website, and as one meeting leads to another, the intimacy and emotional connection grows stronger. If you like books that builds a beautiful and healthy relationship, amazing and very educational mental illness rep, and about finding yourself, this book is for you. A theme in this novel is trying to find/expressing yourself - seen by Anna as she is a people pleaser

Esther.Okeh she feels the need to please everyone. In the course of the novel, she slowing starts to find herself and manage her life with a mental illness. 3y

Helen Hoang‘s The Kiss Quotient series was the first romance series I picked up after a good 10 years and I love it with every single fibre of my body.

Quan and Anna both are thoroughly imperfect in their own way, but so utterly perfect for each other. I loved their dynamics and how they help each other to grow and step out from their old shadows.

Five solid stars.

If you liked the Kiss Quotient you will also like this novel! It took a bit longer to warm up to these characters but by halfway through I was completely invested and rooting for the two characters. I enjoyed that it covered the insecurities of intimacy and sex not just from the women‘s perspective but a man‘s as well, and how they worked to tackle those insecurities with one another and for one another. Truly beautiful!
