USA Today bestselling author Helen Hoang returns with a witty and sizzling new romance that shows how wrong you can be about someone...and how right they can be for you. To most people, Quan Diep is nothing but a surly-looking, underachieving playboy. The problem is he's not any of those things. And now that he's the CEO of an up-and-coming retail business, he's suddenly a "catch," and the rich girls who never used to pay any attention to him are looking at him in a new way--especially Camilla, the girl who brushed him off many years ago. Anna Sun dislikes Quan Diep almost as much as germy bathroom door handles. Or so she tells herself. She will never admit that she has a secret crush on him, especially because he only has eyes for her charismatic and newly engaged younger sister Camilla. Over the years, Anna has worked hard to overcome her OCD, but she'll still need to find a way to bury her anxieties and seduce Quan so he doesn't ruin her sister's engagement, and with it, a crucial real estate development deal. Slowly, Anna breaks down Quan's dangerous and careless exterior while peeling off her own tough, protective shell. But when Quan discovers Anna's true intentions, he's forced to confront his own hurtful past and learn to forgive, while Anna must face her greatest challenge: truly opening herself up to love.

This book is AH-MAZ-ING! I felt so many feelings while reading The Heart Principle and ended with an equal mixture of joy in my heart and tears running down my face. Highly recommend!! ❤️ #LitsyLoveReads

The Heart Principle | Helen Hoang

I don‘t try to stop. I let the tears fall. I cry for the girl I used to be. I cry for me. It‘s a foreign experience. Self-pity is not an indulgence that I allow myself. This doesn‘t feel like pity, though. It feels like self-compassion, and the realisation makes me cry harder.

quote

The Heart Principle | Helen Hoang

Her suggestion that I try it with family, however, is ridiculous. Family is not safe. Not for me. Tough love is brutally honest and hurts you to help you. Tough love cuts you when you‘re already bruised and berates you when you don‘t heal faster.

This was also a good read, a bit more heavy than the two pervious books. Anna and Quan Diep are both so lovely and both have read emotional problems and then a tragedy happens too Anna's family and her relationship is put to the test.

I mostly read “serious literary fiction“ but I am totally a sucker for Helen Hoang‘s books and characters. I absolutely loved this book. And as a professional musician I have to say that she did a great job with the musical aspects of this book. Usually books with professional classical musicians as characters make me cringe because they are just hilariously inaccurate, but she did a great job here.

kspenmoll I so enjoyed this book too- it was my first by this author! Great review! (edited) 4mo
violabrain @kspenmoll I‘m going to read The Bride Test next, but if you haven‘t read The Kiss Quotient (her first book) you totally should. :) I love that one too! 4mo

A bit spicy for my taste and yet I couldn‘t put down this book of Anna learning herself once she‘s diagnosed with being on the autistic spectrum. I learned things about myself as I read her struggles. And, yes, there‘s a decent love story too.

Reading this after obsessing over #kanthony made me realize that I prefer a slow burn, I need them to pine after one another, I prefer that enemy to lovers trope. But, I liked this one the most out of the three books in this series, I enjoyed the character development, and unexpectedly for a romance novel, I cried during the last few pages. So, yes, I ended up really liking this.

kspenmoll I did too! 6mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Third book in the Kiss Quotient romance series, you don‘t need to have read the other 2. This was an amazing book! There weren‘t many romance scenes for a romance book but that didn‘t bother me. It was really a book about a women receiving a late in life autism diagnosis and discovering who she is and finding her voice. The romance was incidental.

I needed to be prepared for the emotional hits. It was definitely a different vibe than the first two books in the series. It‘s more of a focus on family, Anna‘s journey through her diagnosis and Quan‘s journey to healing.

I loved the book. I felt so much while reading. The pain and frustration is consuming in parts. Definitely read Hoang‘s author note at the end, it explains so much about how this book went and made it even more meaningful .

The Heart Principle follows both Anna and Quan. Two people that meet on a dating website, and as one meeting leads to another, the intimacy and emotional connection grows stronger. If you like books that builds a beautiful and healthy relationship, amazing and very educational mental illness rep, and about finding yourself, this book is for you. A theme in this novel is trying to find/expressing yourself - seen by Anna as she is a people pleaser

Esther.Okeh she feels the need to please everyone. In the course of the novel, she slowing starts to find herself and manage her life with a mental illness. 9mo

Contuing my Covid catchup with books, I finished this in the last couple weeks. I really enjoy how one of the author's characters is always somewhere on the spectrum. It reframes what a romance can mean. This book in particular really made me question if I should be evaluated myself. A great book!

I feel in love with Anna. She was real, flawed and someone who deserves a lifetime of compassion. Quan was the perfect person for Anna...understanding, kind and giving.

Helen Hoang‘s The Kiss Quotient series was the first romance series I picked up after a good 10 years and I love it with every single fibre of my body.

Quan and Anna both are thoroughly imperfect in their own way, but so utterly perfect for each other. I loved their dynamics and how they help each other to grow and step out from their old shadows.

Five solid stars.

This is my first book of the year and I really enjoy it. The book doesn't focus on the romance but more on Anna, the main character and the road that she has to go to learn to accept herself and her condition. I highly recommend it. Beautiful written. Amazing story

If you liked the Kiss Quotient you will also like this novel! It took a bit longer to warm up to these characters but by halfway through I was completely invested and rooting for the two characters. I enjoyed that it covered the insecurities of intimacy and sex not just from the women‘s perspective but a man‘s as well, and how they worked to tackle those insecurities with one another and for one another. Truly beautiful!

Hoang has a way of crafting a novel that makes your emotions desperate for the characters. You feel everything with them & you root for them

THP especially is a focus on the harshness of life. It addresses burnout, the importance of self care, & the intensity of caring for a family member

I will say in terms of the romantic plot line, this is probably my least favorite of the trilogy. But in terms of characters and their inner struggles, I always love what Helen Hoang produces. I saw in her author‘s note that this is the most true to her book so far, and I loved the detail of adding a first person narrator to reflect that. I‘m happy to get a close on Michael, Quran, and Khai‘s family!

This book was not what I expected. Not your typical romance with a typical happy ending. While I loved Anna and Quan's love story (Quan is my new book boyfriend💕), this one goes a bit deeper and is more about Anna accepting that she is on the autism spectrum and navigating her way through a family tragedy. The author also says this is her story too, both her and Anna went through a creative block that almost breaks them. I enjoyed this, ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Chelleo This is next up on my reading list 13mo

Two gorgeous covers. Two romances, but so much more.Lila and Anna‘s identities are informed by their culture:Lila,a Cuban American;Anna,a Chinese American. Each follows a journey of growing into their true selves.Anna creates with her music;Layla creates with her Cuban baking. Both share this creativity with the World. Both find support with friends & significant others.Hoang explains that much of Anna‘s Autistic emotional landscape mirrors her own.🔽

kspenmoll 🔼 Hoang invites us to immerse ourselves in Anna‘s moving, sacred journey, as an Autistic woman with insight, empathy, authenticity,& compassion. As a parent of an adult Autistic son,& an aunt of an adult Autistic woman, the emotional landscape the author created, the portrait of sensory overload & Autistic burnout is the best truth I have ever read.(words escape me) 13mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I so appreciate Hoang normalizing neurodivergence in her romances, because these folks *are* normal and deserve to hold space in mainstream entertainment. This is Anna‘s and Quan‘s love story, but just as much, it‘s about Anna‘s life and familial relationships; her realizations and struggles. It‘s a solid 3rd book in the Kiss Quotient series (though each can easily stand alone), but my least favorite.

Cinfhen Totally agree! My least favorite too 13mo

Thanks to careful (obsessive?) library hold management, I scored the audio shortly after it was released… and then of course waited until I had two days left on my loan before I started it, because of my HORRIBLE library hold management.😂

Helen Hoang can do no wrong. Another great Kiss Quotient installment, with characters I loved and rooted for, lots of 🔥, and such realistic, heartbreaking situations for both protagonists. Loved!

I usually aim to finish 5 books in a year, which may not seem like a lot to some of you. This past year has been so hard though so I made a goal to finish at least one book. If I could finish just one book, then that would make me happy. I managed to finish two books this month, however! The small accomplishments matter, too.

I love Hoang's books so much and I hope she writes more! I started this book last week during some down time at work but I haven't had a day to myself where I can just sit and read. Today was that day! I devoured this book in about 11 hours and I don't regret a single minute. The only time I set it down was when I needed a restroom break or for meal times. Every time I picked it back up, I couldn't help but to just read and read and read.

I wanted to like this more as I loved the authors first two books. I knew it was going to be a tough read, as I have heard ahead of time. Some very difficult sections dealing with mental health and death. This is not a light rom com. The romance is lovely but the family interaction was just too much for me. 3⭐️ Another square for #bookspinbingo +5 for #teamhendrix #Scarathlon2021

This book is phenomenal! Beautiful, heartfelt, and deeply personal. I really appreciate how deftly Hoang tackles brutal reality and raw emotion - learning to be true to yourself, overcoming the burden of expectations, the complexities of caregiving. And somehow that's perfectly balanced with sizzling chemistry and authentic vulnerability. Anna and Quan felt so real. Helen Hoang is a treasure and the world needs more romance like this. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was looking for something light & fluffy/ that‘s NOT what I found!! This book, a standalone but part of the Kiss Quotient series finds Quon (🥰) dealing with a health setback and Anna, a musical prodigy who‘s lost her rhythm 🎶 I wasn‘t crazy about this book at first but the last 1/4 really moved this to a strong pick. It touches on familiar themes as Hoang‘s earlier books but there are new ideas here too. Male narrator was just meh, though 😖

JamieArc I agree on the male narrator! 1y
Cinfhen Yay!! I was going to tag you @JamieArc so I‘m happy you found my review. I think the narration was partly why I wasn‘t liking this book too much in the beginning. The voice didn‘t go with my mental image of Quon. Also the beginning felt very similar to the first book and i was thinking it would be stale but it definitely picked up towards the end. 1y

Darker than expected, but I loved the character growth in this one. The situation with her dad was heartbreaking and seeing how her sister treated her was hard. But she figured things out and found the love and support she needed, at her own pace. Hoang really put a lot into this one and it shows.
