Steppenwolf | Hermann Hesse

I want to read, but...

I really love reading. However, sometimes I can't find my inspiration for reading. It usually happens after I finish some book which I didn't like, and then I am stuck with another one.
Several days ago I read This Savage Song and I didn't like it, then I re-read Steppenwolf though I love that book, I couldn't find myself enjoying. What is going on?

Q: Anyone with the same problem? Any kind of help is welcome!

Redy2trvl I've gone through this several times. In years past, have gone months without reading. Now, I find if I'm in a big slump or have that "I don't want to read at all" feeling, I head to the bookstore. Even if my TBR stack is piled high, I go there for inspiration. Sometimes you need a new "little black dress" to give you a jolt and a little pep in your step. Hang in there. ? 7y
Cinfhen I like your analogy @Redy2trvl ‼️‼️#ReadingSlumps are the worse 😩I find mindless thrillers or easy #PaletteCleansers usually do the trick! This was a gripping thriller...Have you read 7y
CareBear I also find reading something completely different from what I usually read can kickstart my reading again. 7y
See All 8 Comments
Notafraidofwords I listen to bookish podcast and it usually gets me out of it. 7y
KrystleTheBookSlayer Yes, that actually happens to me quite a bit, but I'm lucky because my current job allows me to read when it's quiet, which I do or else I get really bored throughout my shift. It kind of forces me out of my reading slump. Sometimes I will choose quick/easy reads, so it's not too much of a commitment when I'm in my slump. 7y
Blaire I have some go tos for slumps. Either a series I know I love - jack reacher, inspector gamache, an Agatha Christie. Or a fave children's literature book. Something I know is quick to get into and will only take a day or so to read. 7y
dylanisreading I do the same as @Notafraidofwords - reminds me how many books are out there waiting to be read. 7y

My little friend helped me to finish this book. 😻
I really enjoyed reading A Girl's Best Friend and I loved the fact that Lindsey Kelk included Angela and Jenny in this book since it's all about Tess.

Aaand finally it is here with me!

I can't describe how I feel 😵 It's been several weeks since this book came out and it is here with me now.
I re-read I Heart collection by Lindsey Kelk this summer and I was super excited for this one.
It is awesome that I Heart Forever isn't the last book in this collection, the next one will be published in 2019.

What are you reading these days?
Happy reading everyone! 🍀

Birdsong28 Thought this was the last in the series! So excited ❤📖📚 7y
ShelvesAndCandles @Birdsong28 I was thinking that, too but yesterday she said there will be another book! Can't wait! ☺😍 7y
Birdsong28 We still have her standalone next year 7y

ShelvesAndCandles @Birdsong28 ohmy... 😳 I didn't know that! That's so great! 7y
Birdsong28 @ShelvesAndCandles Have had it pre-ordered since Jan as I get vouchers for Waterstones for Xmas and do a big order so its like getting presents all year 😃 and when I pre-ordered I heart forever I saw One in Million (Well it was untitled but I saw a video she did on FB and she said she was doing a standalone in 2018 so I thought thats what she was probably talking about). So we will be able to get our Lindsey Kelk fix next year📖📚 7y
SilversReviews I am reading THE IT GIRLS by Karen Harper. Delightful read. 7y
SilversReviews Love your user name. 7y
ShelvesAndCandles @SilversReviews sounds interesting. Enjoy! And thank you! ☺ 7y
SilversReviews @ShelvesAndCandles It is very good. Set in the late 1800's and two feisty women trying to break the man/woman barrier in business and personal life. :) They just didn't want to be housewives. 7y

I just looove my books!

I got these series as the present for Christmas three years ago and I am so in love with these books.

I am a big fan of New York, London and it was just the perfect present for me. The story is interesting and funny so that I read all these books just in few days. I love Angela and Jenny and Alex is my no.1 imaginary boyfriend haha!

I seriously have a crush on him!

Jace *-*

#themortalinstruments #jace

DGRachel I wish I loved this book and TV show. I really want to, but I have developed the same love/hate feelings that I have for Twilight. I hate the Twilight books and movies, but am inexplicably drawn to them. When I'm super depressed, I reread the books and/or watch the films and hate myself. I've binge watched the Shadowhunters first season twice in the last week. And I hate myself. 😳 7y
ShelvesAndCandles I used to love the Twilight books and movies when I was teenager. But I guess I grew up and I am not fan any longer. But The Mortal Instruments books are somehow different to me, I don't know why. I guess it is just about the story itself. Now I am waiting for Monday and the new season of the Shadowhunters. However, no reason to hate yourself. Stay positive! :) @DGRachel 7y
DGRachel I'm positive I'm going to set my DVR for Season 2. 😂😂 it's important to have comfort tv ready for when you feel crummy, right? Like junk food. I may not really like the way it tastes, and it may give me a tummy ache, but something about eating certain comfort foods feels almost obligatory. (Oh my. Now I really sound crazy 😜) 7y
DGRachel And actually, I think I could have dealt with a lot of the things that bugged me about the first book (which is the only one I've read) if one thing hadn't happened between Jace and Clary that crushed my romantic hopes for them. 😳 7y
ShelvesAndCandles Then we are the same haha. I will also prepare myself. You know, the most important thing is to keep a holiday spirit. My New Year actually starts on Monday. :) I hope someday you manage to read the rest of the mortal instruments books. Things get better and from my point of view, they are worth of waiting. :) 7y

The last book bought this year!

I bought it today in some second shop, and I love the fact that this book had been read and used. Unfortunately, I found only the first book of this collection, but I hope I will find the rest of them soon.
I remember reading these books 8 or 9 years ago and I remember loving them!

Has anyone read these books? Any thoughts?

What was the first book you ever remember reading?

-
I remember reading Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm, I was 7 years old and it was obligatory reading in elementary school. I was super scared that I will not remember anything about the plot, so I tried to remember all the pictures inside. :)

Smangela ❤❤ 7y
SoniaC Big Red by Jim Kjelgaard plus the follow up books. I was an animal lover from the start. Right at this time I was also into the A Things Great and small books plus Where The Red Fern Grows, The Yearling and Old Yeller. I was a little obsessed! 7y
MrsMalaprop Wacky Wednesday and The No Such Thing. Oh and Where the Wild Things Are. When I was a little older I loved Playing Beatie Bow by Ruth Park. 7y

TrishB It will have been something by Enid Blyton but can' t remember exactly 😀 7y
Texreader I can't remember the title but I remember I checked it out from my school's bookmobile. How I loved bookmobile day. 7y
Reecaspieces I do not remember not being able to read. I think I always had a book in my hand. I remember hiding behind the China cabinet and reading Dick and Jane books. 7y
Lmstraubie Corduroy by Don Freeman. I loved that little bear & his lost button. 7y

This is going to be my 4th exam in this week! It is very exhausting and I feel like it will never be over.
I fell behind on my reading goals this year and I feel so bad about it. I feel like whenever I take a book to read, my brain tells me that I should be studying.
Anyone with the same problem?
#readingproblems

Lauren_reading Yup, finally finished my masters which was 3 classes a semester and now onto ELL certification which is only 1 per semester. Along with working full time I'm trying to squeeze in as much fun reading as possible. I felt guilty at first, but realized I need to read to relax too or I'd burn out. 7y
Shemac77 I did when I was in school. I adjusted my reading goal because sometimes ( :) ) school trumps studying. Don't feel bad about not making your reading goal! You'll put the time in now and have time to read later. Good luck with your 'zammers! 7y
brilliantglow This was how I felt when I was in school. But like @LaurenReads said, I needed to read to relax. Last year I had 8 classes/semester and my course was done online since I was on mat leave when I enrolled. So I did all of my course work while at home with a baby/toddler and also having to cook and stuff since my husband was also in school full time and worked a full time job. It was very stressful at times. Reading saved me. Good luck on your exams! 7y

ShelvesAndCandles I am studying English Literature and it is sad that we don't have so much time for extra reading because we have so many books about linguistics. We need to learn by heart every single theory and its representatives. But I will try to relax a little bit and enjoy some good books soon. You survived, I will survive too 😄 thank you guys! @LaurenReads @Shemac77 @brilliantglow 7y
kspenmoll Hang in there; School first- feels like forever but it will end- i had to read less while getting my masters, but once completed, even with a family It is easier to find time to read- who cares about housework; I'd rather read! 7y

I still remember when I first read this book, 2 years ago. Back then I had a very confused feelings about this book.
I just couldn't give my opinion. But, as the time goes on, I know deep inside that I enjoyed reading this book. Definitely on my rereading pile.

This would be me everytime I reread The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.
Who else can relate? 💔
#TheFaultinOurStars #JohnGreen #BookishProblems

Texreader Me, about this book. I don't have the emotional stamina to read it again though. 8y
ShelvesAndCandles I totally get it! The first time I read this book, I couldn't make any progress in my life. The same situation happened when I have read Tuesdays With Morrie. It is very difficult for me to deal with the sadness. @Texreader 8y
TrishB I read it and then passed it to my daughter, we took days to get over it. I haven't read it again as I can't face it. She re-reads all the time! 8y

ShelvesAndCandles She is just like me, then. I don't know why I keep re-reading it all over again. I guess, whenever I re-read it, I hope that the ending will be somehow different. Later on, I read all books written by him, hoping that the writer will make it up. @TrishB 8y
TrishB @ShelvesAndCandles the others are good. Looking for Alaska is the other tear jerker! 8y
ShelvesAndCandles Oh I loved Looking for Alaska! Paper Towns is also great. @TrishB 8y

BooksTeasAndBookishThings I read this book about 2 Christmases ago, I remember wondering why I was so sad and actually agreeing/connecting with her emotions instead of thinking she is bat-shit crazy. Terrific story told from the other side of it. 8y
ShelvesAndCandles I completely understand you! I just don't know why it made me sad like I was thinking that Ty didn't deserve to be put in jail. Indeed, terrific story and somehow creepy. @BooksTeasAndBookishThings 8y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings Yes. The middle part could have probably been condensed a little, but behinning and end made up for it, I think. I think it is so creepy, because it is so plausible that someone would think the way he does and also because we feel ourselves understanding her affection toward him. 8y

Right then, and at every moment since you'd left me, all I could think about was you. I wanted you in that apartment. I wanted your arms around me, your face close to mine. I wanted your smell.
And I knew I couldn't - shouldn't - have it.
