This slow-burn build had me coming back to figure out how the greed and delusion would all come together, and I was not disappointed.

so-soI loved the magic & the thought behind book. I enjoyed both Serefin & Malachiasz and am intrigued enough to read the second book once it‘s released. I didn‘t like the (lack-of) world-building, nor the rather predictable plot & ending. pickI had my doubts when I first picked up this ARC - I‘m glad I gave “The Eighth Girl” a chance, I was immediately captivated and couldn‘t put the book down. Alexa Wu & The Gang are intriguing characters brilliantly crafted by Chung in the setting of London‘s seedy underbelly, and they kept me turning pages, (incorrectly) guessing at what was happening and how it would end. It‘s... daunting. But a really entertaining book I couldn‘t put down once I made the time for it. Regarding its length - I think it could be shorter butttt - I‘m not upset in the least about the length because the details within the pages are so rich that it was easy and enjoyable to read. The Hissing Lady also made a few appearances in my dreams while reading this, which was... fun. 🤣😅🤯

bailedOof... I had to read this for work and, truth be told, I did not finish it. I‘ve never NOT finished a ‘required‘ book before, so this was a rough day. 😅 But, it seems that the general agreement tonight was this is a tedious & confusing read through the first 3/4 of the book - if you made it to the end it was worth the trip.
