Institute | Stephen King
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King, the most riveting and unforgettable story of kids confronting evil since It--publishing just as the second part of It, the movie, lands in theaters. In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis's parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents--telekinesis and telepathy--who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and ten-year-old Avery Dixon. They are all in Front Half. Others, Luke learns, graduated to Back Half, "like the roach motel," Kalisha says. "You check in, but you don't check out." In this most sinister of institutions, the director, Mrs. Sigsby, and her staff are ruthlessly dedicated to extracting from these children the force of their extranormal gifts. There are no scruples here. If you go along, you get tokens for the vending machines. If you don't, punishment is brutal. As each new victim disappears to Back Half, Luke becomes more and more desperate to get out and get help. But no one has ever escaped from the Institute. As psychically terrifying as Firestarter, and with the spectacular kid power of It, The Institute is Stephen King's gut-wrenchingly dramatic story of good vs. evil in a world where the good guys don't always win.

King did not disappoint with this book. The writing was fantastic and the story was amazing. Still wonder where he comes up with the ideas that he writes. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you @TheSpineView for the tag. I haven‘t been on Litsy or really any social media too much lately. I‘ve been fighting headaches and sugar issues. I have started reading The Institute after not reading too much this past month. That‘s about my only accomplishment thus far this new year.

Blessings and lots of positive vibes to my Litsy friends!

Crazeedi I hope the days are improving for you! Hugs!!💖🥰😘 5d

Absolutely loved this, and it was a huge hit for my entire work book club. I love the way King writes kids. I could totally see a sequel to this, I hope he writes one!

This one was really good hard to put down. The story was suspenseful and even though it‘s obviously fiction, I feel like this type of thing could totally happen. Kids kidnapped and victims of unauthorized experiments. I did a large portion on audio and Santino Fontana was awesome.

First book of 2020! Mix Firestarter with a dash of Minority Report and you get this. Maybe not quite as good as those, but definitely entertaining and a solid King experience.

I love King as an author and this book did not disappoint! It was gripping from the start where you read about a man who starts a life in a very small town. It then parallels to the lives of the children who reside in “The Institute.” Of course, very well written and captivating. I finished it in five days which is very fast for me, especially for a mighty Stephen King novel!

These are my favorite books i read this year. I finished 39 in all, which is short of my goal but I definitely had a great reading year. Choosing a #1 out of these 8 was tough but The Institute wins top spot because I loved the kids in that story SO DAMN MUCH. Here's to more great reads in 2020!

Got this for Christmas and have finally gotten back in the groove of reading again. 488 pages down and less than 100 to go on The Institute. This book full of suspense throughout the whole book so far. I find myself wanting to skip through the book just to get the answers to all of the questions I‘ve had but have held back and most of them are answered but I‘m looking forward to how this story will end!!😁

I thought I might drop in #TheMistersReviews” every once in awhile. He‘s become interested in books in the past couple of years , preferred platform being audio, as he has a long drive to work each day .
He also is a huge Stephen King fan, which is very surprising. If you knew him, you‘d know why.
He very much enjoyed the above book , plus the narrator. Two Thumbs Up.
I quizzed him on percentage of DNF books he has : 1% . 😮

Stay tuned ...

I hadn‘t read Stephen King in along time. This did not disappoint. It kind of reminded me of Fire Starter. Loved it! My son just got a copy for his 16th birthday today. Happy birthday Noah. And enjoy your first Stephen King book.

The novel opened with Tim Jamieson, an ex-police officer whose life was about to change when he decided to give up his flight seat to a federal officer. Instead of New York, he ended up in DuPray as a night-knocker. We then meet Luke & his other friends at the Institute where they were abused & tortured for reasons only known to the staff.

Dark, disturbing & thought-provoking!👍🏼My first King! Full review on https://bit.ly/2DD5qLs

What happens if you put gifted children in a top secret facilities and mix them with adult torture schemes? This piece will take you to an emotional roller coaster ride and at some point will make you question your life choices.

Feels a little like cheating as I always read King‘s books as soon as they come out. But time allows for audio. So far so good /)

Kaylamburson Definitely not cheating! The brain still has to process the information, and any reading in any format that you enjoy is a good thing! 2mo

The genius of horror is back and as strong as ever! While this book was more disturbing than scary, I enjoyed the usual King markers such as the well developed characters and the occasional veiled reference to his other stories. I enjoyed this read and would definitely recommend it.

It was very slow at first. It took a few days to get into it. Once I did, I couldn‘t put it down. I read about 400 pages of it yesterday, finishing it last night just before midnight. I‘ve already cast a few people in my head whom I‘d like to see in the eventual movie or mini series adaptation.

An entertaining, well-paced tale about children locked up by a mysterious institute that exploits their latent supernatural abilities. There are many throwbacks to earlier King (Firestarter being the most obvious), but this story is original and the characters, particularly the children, are well realised.

How did you choose this book: I was curious and wanted more book that were along the genres of horror, I stumbled upon this book and I really liked it.
The book is about the lives and fears of younger generations. The protagonist's name is Luke Ellis, a 12 year old who is hyperly intelligent.

I enjoyed Stephen King‘s newest novel about an institute that experiments on children showing signs of telekinesis and telepathy. I liked this more than his earlier novel The Outsider but it‘s still lacking that old spark he used to have. It‘s worth the read though! 👍🏼
