I downloaded this book and the second Ellie Reeves book, and was meant to read the latter one first. While reading it suddenly hit me, I‘m reading the “wrong” book. 🤷🏼 So, @Andrew65 @EadieB I‘m already one third through the second detective Scott book 🤣 Sorry about that. We never discussed when we would read it.

EadieB @Tove_Reads I‘m starting this book now. (edited) 11h
Andrew65 I‘ll be a bit delayed on this one. I don‘t have Kindle Unlimited at the moment so have reserved it at the library but it will be 2nd January before I can pick it up from them. (edited) 11h
Tove_Reads @andrew65 Wasn‘t my plan to read it so quickly after the first one @EadieB 10h
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads It‘s not a problem, I‘ll catch up. 10h

Been meaning to read this series for some years, and now it‘s time to read the first book as a #buddyread with @Andrew65 and @EadieB 🙂

Andrew65 Looking to start this tonight. All welcome to join us. 😊 2d
EadieB I'm on Chapter 4 as I just started this morning. 2d
Tove_Reads @andrew65 @eadieb I quite like it that the beginning is a bit different, not immediately murder, and with a strong backstory, and the reader doesn‘t know where it‘ll go. 2d
See All 16 Comments
EadieB Right! I like it too! 2d
Andrew65 A positive initial section, with some interesting characters (including a dog). An intriguing prologue. I‘ve read up to chapter 15 but likely a couple of hours more before I have time to read on. @EadieB @Tove_Reads 2d
Tove_Reads @andrew65 @eadieb I liked it, but didn‘t quite live up to my expectations. I will definitely continue with the series, I think it has real potential. I like the main characters. The plot towards the end was a bit meh. 1d
EadieB @Tove_Reads @Andrew65 I think the first book just introduced her and probably the 2nd book will be better. It‘s just the beginning of the series. I‘m on chapter 70 so I should finish this afternoon. 1d
Andrew65 @EadieB @Tove_Reads Not finished it yet but finding the writing flow a bit stilted, but might be my mood and distraction. 1d
Tove_Reads @andrew65 I list focus several times, but definitely not a bad book, just not one of the great ones either. I believe this series will grow on me. Started Rita Herron‘s series as well, and that first book is better. But I love Cisco and Chad. 1d
EadieB @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads It might just be the 1st book syndrome. I think we should give the 2nd book a chance and see what we think after that one. 1d
Andrew65 @EadieB Definitely, based on what I read so far more than happy to go onto book 2. I always like to give a series 2 books, and do like the characters. @Tove_Reads 1d
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads What Rita Herron book are you reading? 1d
Tove_Reads @andrew65 Ellie Reeves 1d
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I own the first one in that series so may give kit a go too. 1d
Tove_Reads @andrew65 definitely! I need new authors now that I‘m pretty much caught up with most old ones. Enjoyed the first one and since I have unlimited for another two months I plan on plowing through these series, the Dunphy 4, and some Wes Markin 🙂 1d
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Be interested to hear what you think of Wes Markin. 1d

Andrew65 Always! Any suggestions of a book we can both get hold of. 5d
EadieB I would like to read too. Let me know what you decide to read. (edited) 5d
Tove_Reads Yay! Definitely need some #buddyreads now. I actually have time to read and I also need to relax! Have you read the wild fens series by Jack Cartwright? Or SA Dunphy‘s David Dunningham? @Andrew65 @EadieB 4d
See All 45 Comments
Tove_Reads @EadieB @andrew65 Or Wes Markin? 4d
EadieB Haven‘t heard of them. Where do I get these books? 4d
Tove_Reads @EadieB I got them from Amazon Uk. Really annoying that the US and UK Amazon are so different. 4d
EadieB Are you using kindle unlimited? Which one do you want to read first? (edited) 4d
Tove_Reads @eadieb Right now I have it for awhile. Got it for 3 months for 99p. 4d
EadieB Which book? 4d
Tove_Reads @eadieb I‘ll read all of them, so doesn‘t matter. They all sound good. Dunphy‘s are fairly expensive, so def want to read them soon. Wild fens are like 15 books, and Markin has lots as well. Can @Andrew65 get any of these? 4d
EadieB He can probably get the ones from Amazon UK 4d
EadieB I just ordered After She Vanished by SA Dunphy. 4d
Tove_Reads @eadieb I love his books! So far read Boyle and Keneally, and they‘ve all been fantastic! Can‘t wait! Ready to start tomorrow if @andrew65 is 4d
Tove_Reads @eadieb Been busy writing my own books and a play (and sadly going to funerals as well as supporting friends with cancer, ALS etc.). So I need a break! 4d
EadieB My book won‘t be here until January 2 4d
Tove_Reads @eadieb Oh no, so we need something else before that. 4d
EadieB That‘s terrible! You definitely do need a break! 4d
Tove_Reads @EadieB I‘ve been meaning to read several Bookouture authors like Carolyn Arnold and Rita Herron. Pretty sure we‘ll like these series. (edited) 4d
Tove_Reads @eadieb More interested in the Rita Herron ones. 4d
EadieB Doesn't seem to be any books for Carolyn Arnold and Rita Herron right now. 4d
Andrew65 @EadieB @Tove_Reads What about the Elizabethan mystery series, the Nicholas Shelby Series. Most of the series seems available on Prime or Kindle Unlimited in the U.K., and seen good reviews for them. Don‘t know about their availability in the US either via the library, Amazon or other options.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B079YHS8HH?tag=authordatabase&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=...
(edited) 4d
EadieB @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I would like to read the Nicholas Shelby series. I am able to get the books through EBay. 4d
Andrew65 Are you able to get them @Tove_Reads, and are you interested? 3d
EadieB @Andrew65 My book is coming Dec 26 thru the 30th. I‘m reading the SA Dunphy series too. After She Vanished is coming January 2. (edited) 3d
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 @eadieb Sorry, been volunteering, so running around doing things, goodwill Christmas. That is actually one series I will not read. DNF the first book, which almost never happens. Couldn‘t get into it at all. Decided life is too short for me to read this book 🤷🏼 3d
Tove_Reads @eadieb @andrew65 Neaely finished with the first Rita Herron book, started this morning. Trying to think of something we could all read right now 🤔 3d
EadieB @tove_reads @Andrew65 I‘m reading from the Goodreads best books of 2024 about 1/2 done. (edited) 3d
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads @EadieB Any other suggestions? 3d
Andrew65 @EadieB Not even heard of The Booklover‘s Library. 3d
EadieB @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads How about this book on NetGalley. I read his first book and it was pretty good. You could select it and probably get approved to read it. https://www.netgalley.co.uk/catalog/book/494163 3d
Tove_Reads @eadieb @andrew65 The Dark Library by Mary Anna Evans? Read now on NG. 3d
EadieB @Tove_Reads l can‘t access that book. Not having much luck, are we? (edited) 3d
EadieB @Tove_Reads no I haven‘t read it have you? 3d
Andrew65 @EadieB The Hunt looks good but only a request so don‘t know if I‘ll get it or not. Have put in a request. 3d
Andrew65 @EadieB Put a request in for Brendan Slocumb‘s book. 3d
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I own Little Girls Sleeping. 3d
Tove_Reads I have Little girls sleeping as well. @eadieb @andrew65 I can get the hunt, but it‘s the third book in the series. 3d
EadieB @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Let me know if you get approved for The Hunt or the Slocumb book. 3d
Andrew65 @EadieB Only read The Women by Kristin Hannah from the Historical Fiction but not surprised it won - one of my favourite reads of the year. 3d
Tove_Reads @andrew65 @eadieb Ok, I‘ll wait for Eadie to get the Dunphy book. Will read Little Girls Sleeping next. 3d
EadieB @Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I loved The Women by Kristin Hannah too. I have Little Girls Sleeping and book 2, 3, & 4. so we can read that one in the meantime. 3d

Reading Traitors Gate to catch up with the series, eagerly waiting for the next book in the series! I admire Jeffrey Archer‘s writing style and his editing skills. He edits his books up to 14 times! You can see that! So many authors could do with a bit more editing. I‘m spending most of my nights working on my own series atm. It‘s fascinating and fun, a bit scary, but let‘s see what happens!

I loved it! The best thing to do is to read the old books and then continue with this one. So many characters from back in the days, and so much history. This book was great, but also heartbreaking. Peter May is a magnificent writer, and his characters are so believable and flawed that sometimes it chills my bones. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️#netgalley
