Started reading my first Alex Finlay. Seems very promising!
Started reading my first Alex Finlay. Seems very promising!
“From the author of the breakout thriller Every Last Fear, comes Alex Finlay's electrifying next novel The Night Shift, about a pair of small-town murders fifteen years apart―and the ties that bind them. ‘The night was expected to bring tragedy.‘ So begins one of the most highly-anticipated thrillers in recent years.”
I think I liked Every Last Fear a bit better, but this was a solid thriller 👏🏻👏🏻 I didn‘t see the twist at the end at all 😅😳🫢
Great detective thriller. I think this author pulls off the twists and turns really well.
Thanks Caroline 😘
I am having to start a second book on #kindleunlimited now that the light is going for the day. The print in my other new book is too tiny for comfort under electric light.
Flew through this audiobook. Fast-paced, entertaining thriller. I think I‘ll try Every Last Fear next.
It was just okay.
I like the twists. But the story itself dragged on a little too long. It was on my TBR for so long, so I'm glad I read it, but knowing what I know now, I would have been just as happy to skip it.

Book 12 of 2023! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The twists! The turns! What an awesome thriller!
A great thriller! The story of 2 mass murders 15 years apart and the people who work together to solve the mystery.
Finally. A snow day home from work. Starting my morning with a good book ❄️📖
A little reading while waiting for my daughter at gymnastics
Book 37📚 3.8⭐️
2 multi-victim murders, 15 years apart.
One at Blockbuster📼; One at the ice cream shoppe🍦
A great 24hr read, if you‘re working the night shift😉
I thought this book was extremely well written. The story had me interested from the very first page and I didn‘t want to put it down. Even though I figured out who the killer was early on, I didn‘t catch on to a lot of the other twists in the book! I thought that the pace was quick and kept me on the edge of my seat while reading it and I definitely would read more by this author!
(Just one last pic of my Christmas tree 😉)
Two massacres, fifteen years apart. Two survivors, a suspect on the run, police and FBI seeking the truth. All these ingredients make for a very, good fast-pacing read. So many twists. I can‘t wait for the next Finlay. Great gift @TrishB, thanks ❤️!

This was a really great thriller with a strong female FBI character that I‘d really love to see in some follow-up books. If you love reading serial killer mysteries this one is for you.
Late ‘90s Blockbuster nostalgia, a teenage night shift closing crew, and a stabby villain. Yes please! #ScarathlonDailyPrompts #PhotoChallenge Day 11: #Dark

Fast moving thriller full of energy that read almost like a movie to me. I enjoyed it a lot. This might be my first Finlay; if I've read others I don't remember.
Some parts were predictable and others surprised me a little. Thriller/crime fans will enjoy this one though.

I enjoyed this. The 3 POV characters all interested me & both crimes were horrifying. A 3rd crime- which came as little surprise- and a 4th crime- that did- tie up loose ends while we get closer to discovering if & how the 2 mass murders are related. The culprit won't shock anyone who reads a lot of thrillers but I, for one, don't need every book I read to be a jaw dropper so that didn't bother me. I'm more interested in the how & the why. ⬇️
I picked this one up for #NoShameReadathon - Slasher horror pick
I‘m not a horror person, I‘m such a wimp and I‘m definitely not a slasher film person! So I was definitely hesitant. Definitely a bit gruesome at the end.
However, I really liked this book and couldn‘t put it down. It was also a super quick read.

Today‘s Prompt: ICE CREAM DAY
This isn‘t a sweet, ice cream parlor read, but a good one for thriller fans. 😊
Fifteen years ago three teens were murdered at a video store with one survivor, and today a similar incident happened at an “ice cream” store…https://tinyurl.com/4u7m22k6
@alexfinlayauthor
3.5 stars for me.
2 brutal murders set 15 years apart. One takes place in a Blockbuster video (remember those?)the other in an ice cream shop.
My issue was that there were a ton of characters that all had the same "voice" which made it difficult to discern who was who. Although, this could just be a "me" issue. Lots of red herrings in addition to what felt like incomplete storylines that left more questions than answers.
Yet, it's a page-turner!
Kicking off the weekend with a new book and a new wip

Not the most original crime thriller, but what it lacks in uniqueness it makes up for with fast pacing, dynamic characters, and precise prose.
Great story. A real page turner and I enjoyed the 90's throwback to Blockbuster.
This is a light pick for me. It was entertaining enough and moved along at a fast pace, but I found myself wishing more time was spent in 1999.
Moved fast and kept me guessing! Can't ask for much more! I also liked that the best characters were women and they rocked in their own unique ways.
The past comes back to haunt sole-survivor of the 1999 Blockbuster massacre, Ella, now a self destructive therapist, after a disturbingly similar murder take place at a local Dairy Creamery &she is called to assist the only survivor there.
I was glad to see more of Agent Keller (and her husband) who appeared in Every Last Fear.
A page-turner for sure. All his characters are complex &interesting
One ahhhh concern / spoiler in the comments
Interestingly, this book has the same FBI agent Sarah Keller as Finlay‘s Every Last Fear, but the story told in this book predates the story told in Every Last Fear. I figured out the ultimate culprit fairly early on, but that didn‘t impede my enjoyment of the book at all given the different perspectives and multilayered story line. If you enjoyed Finlay‘s first book, you‘ll probably dig this on as well.
This one came up to borrow this morning, so I'll get my week's commute started with something new! Bonus that it's only 9 hours. I keep getting tomes that take me forever
This is a slow building thriller/ suspense story that begins with a hook as the preface begins in 1999 with the brutal slayings of 4 young people working the night shift at blockbuster. The sole survivor, Ella, grows up doing her best to live with her trauma, while the case goes cold and the only suspect vanishes. Now with a fresh set of killings, same town, same MO, the question becomes is a copycat terrorizing Linden or is the killer back again?

Anyone else read this yet? I'm about halfway through and I can't put it down! It's giving me major Final Girls by Riley Sager vibes! 💕📚
Alex Finlay combined the true incidences of the Albuquerque, New Mexico Blockbuster massacre and the Austin, Texas I Can't Believe It's Yogurt Massacre for this Thriller. Not specifically noted but too close to home for it to be a coincidence. Great Read!
Who killed the teenage girls at Blockbuster years ago? Who killed the teenage girls at Dairy Creamery in the present? Not a particularly interesting group of detectives here, but I read to the end to see who did it.
Finlay has created the same frenetic pace that Every Last Fear had again, sucking me in from the first page. I enjoyed the multiple viewpoints and how everything wove together without making things so complicated, I needed to take notes to keep up.
Bailed at about 20%. Skipped to the end. Guess what? I‘m not at all shocked by the killer. This one was not for me.
There was something deliciously page turning about this book. It sucked me in right away and keeps you guessing until the end! #readingchallenge2022
This book was such a quick read! I literally read it in a day! I‘m definitely a fan of Alex Finlay‘s writing. When an eerily similar crime occurs several years apart, the survivor of the first crime must face her trauma and relive the experience to see if she can help in the investigation. I really enjoyed the FBI Agent in this story. The story comes to a satisfying conclusion. Definitely recommend!!
As always, I‘d rather be reading a mystery than doing just about anything else. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#the-night-shift
Picked these 3 up from Doubleday Book Club! I‘m so excited for all 3! Now I‘ve just got to make time to read them 😵💫!
LOVED “Run Rose Run,” now onto the next! (Having a job where I can just kick back and read on quiet days is just the best, honestly.) #thenightshift #alexfinlay
I really enjoyed reading The Night Shift by Alex Finlay. I couldn‘t put this book down. It was so good. I like the fact that this book and his previous one Every Last Fear have a connection. I can‘t wait to read his neck book. #TheNightShift #AlexFinlay
I‘m up to page 162 out of 309. So far so good. This book is an easy read. #thenightshift #alexfinlay
