I visited the lovely #littlefreelibrary (at the right of the photo) at #equalityhouse in Kansas today and added two big stacks of books. This is right across the street from those nasty Topeka-based freaks whose name I won't speak. There are actually three painted houses now, and a community garden. #LoveWins

This is so relevant to the current argument in Australia about taking the equal marriage issue to a plebiscite.

pickLove Wins is about the people behind the lawsuits that eventually lead to the SCOTUS ruling that legalized gay marriage. The discrimination and the joy in their stories made me tear up a few times (sometimes on the subway). TBH, I probably wouldn't have read this if it wasn't for my book club, but I'm glad we picked this because it is eye-opening and beautifully written, too. If you're looking for a non-fiction read I highly recommend Love Wins.

Hodges & was lucky to meet Jim Obergefell, the plaintiff & co-writer of this book. Today's the anniversary of the 14th Amend to the US Constitution! First passed to overturn the 3/5 compromise & grant full rights to Black citizens, it includes due process & equal protection clauses & has been used to support desegregation of schools, interracial marriage, affirmative action, the right to privacy, abortion rights, decriminalization of sodomy & most recently, marriage equality.
