Romancing the Inventor: A Supernatural Society Novella (1.0)
Romancing the Inventor: A Supernatural Society Novella (1.0) | Gail Carriger
A steampunk lesbian romance featuring a maid bent on seducing a brilliant scientist who's too brokenhearted to notice. Or is she? Imogene Hale is a lowly parlourmaid with a soul-crushing secret. Seeking solace, she takes work at a local hive, only to fall desperately in love with the amazing lady inventor the vampires are keeping in the potting shed. Genevieve Lefoux is heartsick, lonely, and French. With culture, class, and the lady herself set against the match, can Imogene and her duster overcome all odds and win Genevieve's heart, or will the vampires suck both of them dry? This is a stand-alone LBGTQ sweet romance set in Gail Carriger's Parasolverse, full of class prejudice, elusive equations, and paranormal creatures taking tea. Look for surprise appearances from popular Parasolverse characters and the occasional strategic application of cognac. Supernatural Society novellas can be read in any order. Delicate Sensibilities? This story contains women pleasing women and ladies who know what they want and pursue it, sometimes in exquisite detail.

Who wouldn't fall for an intense, brilliant, but slightly damaged Victorian inventor? This Sapphic short novel is my first book in the Parasolverse. Both heroines are human, but it's set in that supernatural-infused world. Which book should I read next? The next in this sub-series, or should I go back to the beginning?

BookBr I‘d go back to the beginning—the series is a ton of fun! 1y

Switching from Whisky to Cognac in honor of Genevieve. Love how Emma Newman reads the French bits of Romancing the Inventor.
I'm actually ahead of Schedule on my Reread. IRL friend is binge reading and it's been a delight to discuss. Thinking I may speed up to keep up with her and add on beyond the Parasolverse.

Gail Carriger has published several novellas featuring side characters from her Parasolverse - gotta love a happy ending outside the vampire hive!

5/5⭐ More Victorian lesbians please, especially in the steampunk/supernatural genre. I absolutely adored this romance, the weaving subplots, and the return to this world. The pack's presence is so over the top, but so right and so satisfying. Carriger manages to get so much of the characters' personalities in with just a few words. Alexia is a force even as a side character, and every single second is pure joy.

A slow burn, but worth the wait! I found Imogene both wonderful and frustrating! I understand that her reluctance to speak her mind and her desires is a baked in stamp of the time and society and where she fits within it all, but I found it almost infuriating at times! Though, when she finally does hold forth, it's pretty glorious! Definitely a book worth the read.

I loved revisiting this world and seeing the inventor‘s further story....but I have to admit my favorite parts were still Alexia, the wolves, and Channing was a stand out for me here surprisingly. I can‘t wait to get to his book as I catch up on these novellas set between the 2 series.

I was having a tough week when I decided that I needed to lose myself in the silliness of a Gail Carriger book. Too bad it was missing the levity I love so much from The Parasol Protectorate series! Mention of the wicker chicken was the only thing that made me smile.

Genevieve Lefoux is my All Time Favorite Character in the Paraverse. I agree with Imogene. How can you not love her? She's charming, witty, smart, and oh so French. I had forgotten how beautiful her and Alexia's friendship is this book. But what I love most about her is how fiercely she loves her adopted son. She so deserves a Happy Ever After. 👭

Genevieve would probably prefer Cognac. Alas none in my Liquor Cabinet. Instead we continue with purple cocktail to match cover. Splash of Crème de Violette in French Sparkling Wine. (I can never bring myself to use real Champagne as a mixer.) Will call this the Inventor Royale. 🍾🍾🍾

As of yesterday this is the current read in the #ParasolProtectorate readalong. It‘s f/f romance and isn‘t entirely a stand-alone because it features a character from one of this universe‘s series but you could probably read it without having read the Finishing School series.

theresidentromantic I didn't realize I was in line with a read a long! I've been audioing them as a reread, I'm about to start book 4. Where does this book fit in the time line? I haven't read these mini stories, like Channing Channing of the Chesterfield Channings, but I want to read them in time line order... 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @theresidentromantic I‘m following along with it on Facebook but I re-read most of the series last year so I‘m only reading the ones I‘ve not read. The entire series starts the Curious Case short story. This is followed by the Finishing School books, which is the YA series Carriger wrote after the Parasol Protectorate series. Next in the timeline is the Poison and Protect novella. Fourth in the timeline is the Parasol Protectorate series. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @theresidentromantic The Romancing the Inventor novella comes after that series and then it starts moving back and forth between books and novellas - Prudence, Imprudence, Romancing the Werewolf novella, Competence, How to Marry a Werewolf novella, and Reticence (out in August). There are no more books planned in the series but Carriger plans to release some more novellas I think. 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @theresidentromantic I think there are Littens reading along so if you look under the books you can probably find them, and whatever hashtags they might be using. 6y
theresidentromantic @jpmcwisemorgan Thank you!! I didn't know book four was out in August, that's exciting! I mostly want to get to how to marry a werewolf ♥️ The audiobooks are great because the reader is 100% Alexia, definitely worth a shot! 6y

This book was absolutely adorable. I love the Finishing School series, so it was great to see the return of some of my favorite characters 😊 might have been more enjoyable if I had also read her other series, but I‘m starting that as soon as my library hold comes in!

Romancing the Werewolf is out - it‘s Biffy and Lyall‘s story, then one that feels like the entire #ParasolProtectorate had been waiting a million years for. Gail Carriger has posted a deleted scene between Prudence and Lyall from the #CustardProtocol series and it nearly broke my heart because it alludes to why Lyall and Biffy aren‘t together. Anyway, you can buy this book now.

Eight months ago I asked where Biffy‘s story was and on November 5th we‘ll have it in our hot little hands. The cover for Romancing the Werewolf has beenreleased and it‘s generating all sorts of excitement and theories in the #ParasolProtectorate FB group. The story is tied to Timeless and occurs after Imprudence chronologically. Guess I‘d better finally read the #CustardProtocol books.

This wasn't part of the pile originally but I wanted to read this novella in September. I felt like reading it last night so I did! Madame Lefoux is one of my favorite characters from two of Gail Carriger's series so I was excited to read a romance novella focused on her. The couple is adorable. There were funny and cute moments too. B+

Steampunk #ikissedagirl Romance with one of my favorite characters in Gail Carriger's Paraverse - Genevieve Lefoux. She's smart, funny, and can turn anything into a double entendre. Nice, quick to read novella told from the point of view of a new character but it's really about a character we already know and love - Madame Lefoux. Sure the London Pack shows up, and the Wolsey Hive are there but it's a completion of the Lefoux storyline. Now where's Biffy's?

I finished this in one sitting a while ago. I don't normally read f/f, but I picked this up because 1) it's by one of my favourite authors, and 2) it's got one of my favourite characters, Madame Lefoux.
I'm really glad that I read this! It was interesting to see the Hive and Madame Lefoux from a new character's perspective. Imogene's character is a nice addition to this universe, I'm surprised at how much I liked her given how short the story is.

I would read anything Gail Carriger writes, especially if it's in her glorious Steampunk Victorian world. This is her 2nd self-published novella and I ate it up. It's a love story for Genevieve Lefoux, but told from the POV of the parlour maid turned assistant who is desperate to be seduced by her. So much fun, with insight into hive life and glimpses of old favourites.
