A pleasing mix of modern and historical female inventors and their inventions. I think the most inspiring passages are at the end, detailing inventions of 'girls', females under 18, and exhorting the reader, regardless of age, to try inventing (and remember to patent!). US-focused, but central message is internationally applicable and welcome. I picked this up because I love Melissa Sweet's collage/illustration style and she does not disappoint.

Origin of 'bug' in computers! Who knew? Also: anybody else appreciate the pink font but recognize it's not very reader friendly? 🤨

This year, on the first day of homeschool, my older girls woke up to a letter from the esteemed headmistress (baby Clara) of S‘Moores School of Innovation & Inquiry, inviting them to enter the parallel world of a boarding school where “magic is in the mind.” They were each placed in a house named for a famous woman innovator (Grace Hopper & Temple Grandin) and began their journey of imaginative exploration for a new school year. 👇

tpixie I‘d love to send my grandchildren to your school! Awesomeness!! 4y
saresmoore They each designed a house crest and came up with a motto based on the qualities they share with the remarkable woman for whom their designated house was named. Two things are clear: Harry Potter informs our family mythos and I have a lot of fun with homeschool... maybe too much. 😆 4y
saresmoore @tpixie It‘s so much fun! 4y

saresmoore @TrishB Yes! ♥️ It never gets old! 4y
saresmoore @LeahBergen You know you‘re always welcome! And fortunately our school exists in a parallel world so there‘s no Trump here. 🤪🙃 4y
GingerAntics No Trump there?! I wanted to get sorted before, but now I REALLY want to get sorted...or sweep the floors, or whatever needs sweeping in this parallel world, or be a librarian, or a library book maybe!!! 4y
saresmoore @GingerAntics Next life goal: reincarnate as a library book 4y

#MayMovieMagic Day 6: #DontStopMeNow say these 12 ingenious women presented in this fairly-thin collection of biographies. I found the stories highly compelling, and the narrative flow suspenseful and ultimately triumphant – as the ingenious inventors made the public realize the worth of their creations. Perfect for #WomenReadWomen2019. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-joF

Fantastic children‘s book about female inventors. The illustrations are fun but I was far more focused on the stories of the women inventors.

This NF (B) teaches about women who changed the world because of their inventions. The last pages of the book give info on obtaining patents for your own inventions & give resources of organizations/contests that encourage young people to be creative. This would be a great book when teaching science. Heres NSTA's list of outstanding science trade books for other quality gems http://www.nsta.org/publications/ostb/ostb2016.aspx #UCFLAE3414su17

SamanthaPuglisi I love the concept of this book and that it gives advice on how to take action if you have an idea for an invention. I can really see it inspiring children to follow their dreams! 7y
DrSpalding This reminds me of She Persisted. What a fabulous book for STEM classes! NSTAs list of notable Science titles is a good resource too! 7y
Ashleywwolfe This reminds me of She Persisted as well @DrSpalding ! It would also make for a good unit project assignment for class if everyone or small groups were able to chose a figure from the book for explore further. 7y
Chanelamber Nice! I believe that this would be a great read for little girls - I'll have to add this to my stack! 7y

5⭐️ a very creative look at inventions created by women, and how their inventions have made life easier. I really love the illustrations and side notes/ additional interesting information for each inventor. Also at the end of the book, it encourages young inventors to pursue their talents. Additionally it gives information on how to get a patent for their ideas, etc. Baseline, it's an awesome book. 🤓
