Yesterday‘s op shopping expedition after ballet. I didn‘t have anywhere to be. I didn‘t have to rush so I hit one up I don‘t get to often. Bliss. Grand total 🟰 $72. I was down to one champagne glass and these were pretty, sturdy and cheap.

This may not be my favorite collection from Nikita Gill, however I definitely enjoyed it and many of its poems. Now onto her next and newest collection of poetry!
I always feel so unqualified to write about poetry, as I read so little, so feel my opinion has no value. But for what it‘s worth, I really enjoyed this collection, beautifully grounded in science and nature, scattered with myth and magic, with the ‘rebellion‘ of the subtitle being a battle cry against self doubt and celebrating your power. Quite lovely… #readharder2023 #poetrybyBIPOC
I've got a pretty busy weekend, but gonna try to squeeze in as much reading as possible.
Will definitely not make it to 20h, so let see how far I can go.

Can never get enough of Nikita‘s empowering poems. This was properly my favorite -of many - poems through this book about the world. How the earth is bright and amazing, and how it shines for us. All we need is to rebel against those telling us we can‘t do it and show that, actually, Yes We Can
I needed a palate cleanser after the last book. Nikita Gill does not disappoint. These poems are full of empowerment, healing, and loving yourself. #stayhome24in48 #24in48 #readathon
If you want to know the secret, if you want to know the truth, there is nothing more dangerous than a girl who is aware of the flames inside her, and all the damage she can do.
Don't ever let them tell you that girls are made for glass boxes and princes and apple pies when girls are made for swords and shields and anything else they damn well want to be.
This is a small part of a poem called Fire in this book. These words have given me so much strength over the last few years. It resounds so deeply in me and I just wanted to share it.
“You watch her walk away
and it hits you
that she is an entire ocean
and you were wrong,
so very wrong,
because you let her go
thinking she was just a girl.”
This one has been sitting in my TBR for far too long and I'm disappointed in myself for not having read it sooner! Absolutely loved! Everything you could expect and more from Nikita Gill! 💜

Wild Embers is a beautiful and inspiring collection of poetry that encourages women to heal and find new strength after being trampled on by society‘s demands. Gill also gives a voice to the survivor and aims to empower women, even in the face of trauma‘s beast. She dissects the lies we‘ve been fed about our appearances, purposes, and rights.

Currently reading: Wild Embers by Nikita Gill
This collection of poetry addresses trauma, self-worth, abuse, and empowerment. Some of the poems have really struck a chord with me. I am absolutely in love with another one of her collections, Fierce Fairytales, and I am glad to be consuming more of her work!

My favorite hobbies are reading, writing, and photography. When it comes to writing, I especially love to write poetry. I like to read it, too!
One of my current reads is the poetry collection Wild Embers by Nikita Gill. It‘s off to a nice start but I do think her book, Fierce Fairytales, will remain in the top slot when it comes to my favorite poetry books.

The Sun and the Moon
Aim for a love
that reminds you
of the devotion
the sun has to the moon.
Whether she is in fractions
or she is whole,
he still shrouds his intense light
in the darkness of the night.
To give her the entire sky,
without judgment,
so she can shine in any way
she wants to.
You deserve someone
who adores you
on the days you are
in broken fragments too.
You deserve someone
who lets you glow
in every way
you need to.
I love poetry. Here a few of my books and some of my favorites. #stackit #lovemystack #poetry #heartspacereading
While I didn‘t like “Wild Embers” half as much as “Fierce Fairytales”, (as some of the poems were a bit too “self-help” for my taste), it‘s still a wonderfully beautiful collection of poetry. The Myth/Goddess section alone makes it a must-read.
THIS poem is the only “description” of Athena I‘ve found that matches how I‘m writing her in my book, “Glaukopis”. I love how this praises her imagination, her creativity, her curiosity, and above all, her WISDOM. She is also depicted as being very feminine in this, and showing strength in her femininity. Really goes to show what an amazing goddess she is when not buried by patriarchal epics.
These poems were very hit or miss with me. I liked the few in a row about Disney princesses and again later about goddesses, but I have never seen the word 'trauma' so much and maybe a lot of the poems were just not geared towards me. 🤷♀️
The above poem was the reason I sought this collection out initially.
