The Book of the Year
The Book of the Year | No Such Thing As A Fish
10 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
The Book of the Year will be precisely what its title promises: an entertaining, fact-filled journey into the more bizarre reaches of the past twelve months. Among many, many other things, it will establish: Who has played the greater number of golf rounds since the turn of 2017: Rory McIlroy or Donald Trump. Precisely how many members of Britains Parachute Regiment arent actually qualified to use parachutes. Why a parliamentary inquiry into why parliamentary inquiries take so long has been delayed. Venturing fearlessly from Australia (where toad-flavoured sausages are being deployed to stop predators from eating real toads) to India (where you can now buy a washing machine with a special curry stain button), this will be the year, not as the headlines defined it, but as it ought to be remembered. The Book of the Year will prove the perfect Christmas gift, the ideal conversation starter (and stopper), and the ultimate source of wisdom for all lovers of trivia.

Repost for @Catsandbooks

I made a #BookBracket for 2024!
I added in wild card options, for people to use however they like. Your bracket, your rules!

Please feel free to share!
I also have a link where you can download your own copy, if you prefer to get it that way 🩵 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ogcYdNAw3yOaDwgzjqXmjndFLJ8l93JS/view?usp=drive...

BethM Now how the heck do I not make it look all jacked up lol? I gave up last year bc it got so bad😂😂😂 11mo
Catsandbooks @BethM 😂 Do you mean putting the images of the books on the bracket? 11mo

No Such Thing As A Fish fans and other strange fact nerds: someone brilliant has put together a Goodreads list of all the books referenced in the Fish podcast! I am dying, as is my TBR.

We are now over 3/4 of the way through the year and no doubt all running out of books to read! 😂 Time to add to that #TBRMountain

Share with other Littens what your favourite book of the year is. If you can‘t limit it to 1 share more than 1.

LazyDays Best read for 2018! 6y

Pickpick

One of my favorite British panel shows, QI, spawned one of my favorite podcasts, No Such Thing As A Fish, this audiobook was basically a 9 hour long podcast, in spite of what the subtitle says, and I loved every minute of it. 🚫🐠

Did you know about the man who tied balloons to a camping chair in 2017 and flew over South Africa? If this and other quite interesting facts are of interest I recommend the Book of the Year from the No Such Thing as a Fish podcast folks. I listened to it as the Audiobook of the Year but either way it is nonfiction indulgent fun!

Tamra There was a guy in the US who did something similar and promptly got arrested. ☹️ Should have been rewarded for ingenuity! 7y
Booksnchill @Tamra i saw that- I think this guy was fined as well. I think they both deserved a Darwin Award but they survived so maybe next time! 7y
Tamra @Booksnchill 😂 Definitely have a crazy sense of adventure! (edited) 7y

For those who love the british quiz show QI the “elves” or research team, have a podcast- No Such Thing As A Fish which I highly recommend. They have written the tagged book but had thought the audiobook would not be available in US (really a 9 hour version of the podcast exploring quite interesting facts) It just became available and I am here for that!🤪👏👏👏🎉

The Book of the Year | No Such Thing As A Fish

I've been relying heavily on the No Such Thing As A Fish and Judge John Hodgman podcasts to entertain me on my work commute, but since those only last me so long, I'm looking to pad things out with some book-centric fare. I've been really enjoying Reading Envy. What are your favorites, Littens?

ReadingEnvy Wow, thanks for listening! The book podcasts I always listen to immediately are The Readers and The Librarian is In, although there are a bunch of others I dabble in. Non bookwise I can recommend The Mortified Podcast for hours of cringeworthy readings from childhood diaries. 7y
kalinichta @ReadingEnvy Awesome, thank you so much for the recs. 7y
