Sweet Little Lies
Sweet Little Lies: Winner of the Richard and Judy Search for a Bestseller Competition | Caz Frear

What happens when the trust has gone? Cat Kinsella was always a daddy's girl. Until the summer of 1998 when she sees her father flirting with seventeen-year-old Maryanne Doyle. When Maryanne later disappears and Cat's father denies ever knowing her, Cat's relationship with him is changed forever. Eighteen years later, Cat is now a Detective Constable with the Met. Called to the scene of a murder in Islington, she discovers a woman's body: Alice Lapaine has been found strangled, not far from the pub that Cat's father runs. When evidence links Alice to the still missing Maryanne, all Cat's fears about her father resurface. Could he really be a killer? Determined to confront the past and find out what really happened to Maryanne all those years ago, Cat begins to dig into the case. But the problem with looking into the past is that sometimes you might not like what you find. For fans of Erin Kelly and Belinda Bauer, Sweet Little Lies is a suspenseful page-turner from a talented new voice.

First book in a series based around the detective constable Cat Kinsella, it's a solid debut, with entertaining dialogues, and an intelligently constructed plot which allows readers to discover Cat's story, her difficult relationship with her father, and the secret she's been keeping for years.

Major down: the playing down of a key element. When it happens, it is a blatant clue that this element is the KEY. It's definitely a pet peeve of mine.

Another one from my #botm backlog & my #doublebookspin @TheAromaofBooks! This was a really good thriller from BOTM. Cat is a detective for the Metropolitan Police Force where she buries herself in her work to avoid dealing with her strained family relationships. When a dead girl turns up within walking distance of the bar her father owns, Cat is seized by memories from the summer that changed her relationship with her father forever. ⭐⭐⭐💫

My first audio book completed, may have taken a few weeks as I only listened while doing the school run, or when I was painting our new bedroom. In fairness, this book was ok, nothing spectacular but it did have a few twists and turns I wasn't expecting. Perhaps I would have rated it more if I had actually read it? Murder, trafficking and family secrets, ok for a cold December day!

My first audio book. Looking forward to trying something new, but can't guarantee my concentration will see me follow the plot due to interrupted sleep with a 6 week old baby.

A body is found in central London and DC Cat Kinsella is torn between investigating and fearing her family may somehow be involved. The beginning of this book is a mess and the ending is too drawn-out, but once the police procedural component settles in, it‘s quite good.

**Apologies for the photo. The models just were NOT cooperating. 😬

I just keep dnfing books left and right. 😭😭😭

DNF at 68 pages. It was really slow and boring. Couldn‘t capture my attention. It felt dreary as well.

A well paced, well written who done it. While I did figure it out before the twist was revealed that didn't put a damper on the quality or enjoyment in getting there.

This one had a slow start. Definitely a few twists and turns that saved it from being completely mediocre.

I finished listening to this on my way to work. It was okay. Definitely could have been shorter. I didn‘t see the ending coming, but it still fell flat. It‘s my third mystery genre audiobook in a row; I think I need to switch genres for my next listen.

Read this using the Nook app “Read Out” option in June. I liked more than disliked this (rated 3/5 on Goodreads). The murder mystery was pretty good, but wrapped up too neatly. The main character was interesting, but her main traits are that she is traumatized by a previous case and doesn‘t get along with her family. Would have liked more development of her as a person but I don‘t think that is generally a strong point in this genre.

One of those true 3-star books—not “almost 4 but rounding down b/c X” or “closer to 2 but I‘m being generous b/c Y.” It was fine—decent police procedural with no absurd L&O SVU-style overly obvious statements from one cop to another, okay pacing, a main female character who is not a Bad Ass nor a silly mess. But no sense of urgency, one reveal was just “Oh, huh, okay” & another was super predictable. Will read more from this author, though.3/5 ⭐️

This has the kind of synopsis where it could easily end up being cliché and derivative, but it‘s intriguing enough that I‘m still gonna give it a chance ?

Sweet Little Lies I presumed was a thriller, yet I was left reading more police procedures than anything. Although the story was well written with great character developments, it was very very slow...which made it difficult to hold my attention. It was........ OK.

Ahh idk why it‘s taking me a long time to get into this book! I started it 2 days ago and I‘m still on page 86! Then again, my gf came over (she‘s not into books at all :( ) and we‘ve been spending time together, and since i‘m done with finals, I‘m getting myself back into my old habits and pastimes (other than reading). I‘m also really bad at managing my time lol. I‘ll try to read as much as I can when I go to bed.

This book started out strong, but it lost steam in the middle. Which is part of the reason it took me almost a month to finish it. I really wanted to like it, but I thought it was very mediocre.

Also, this is the first full book I've used Bookly for since it came out for Android. Not really sure how i feel about it yet. Anyone else have problems with the time not logging?

This was a pretty good murder mystery, but I am a bit tired of the alcoholic unreliable narrator. I actually would really love to have read this with another character - the murder unit lead as the main narrator-she seems much more interesting! There were a few twists that kept my interest so, overall a pic!
