Breath of Snow and Ashes
Breath of Snow and Ashes | Diana Gabaldon
This sixth novel in Diana Gabaldon s bestselling Outlander saga is a masterpiece of historical fiction from one of the most popular authors of our time."A Breath of Snow and Ashes" continues the extraordinary story of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest. With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from "The Wilmington Gazette," dated 1776, which reports Jamie s death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future. "From the Hardcover edition.""

The Outlander re-read continues. There were details I'd either missed or forgotten in this one. It's interesting to see how things are slightly different every time I read. #53-2024 (This one is actually #53. I messed up my count before)

The most perfect day for reading. (And certainly this book). There's nothing better than getting cozied up by the fire and lost in a story. 🤓 #readingday #winterwonderland

So...picked this one up again. I flew through the first 4 books but 5 and this one have taken me forever. It's funny but I tend to go back to them during the holidays when I want to just get lost in a book for a while. I'm on page 489 of 8,042 (JK 😬) so we'll see how far I get. 🤓 #lostinstory #holidayread

Book #6 in the Outlander series. And very aptly named I‘d say. Lots of snow, lots of fire…lots of learning peoples true intentions. I‘ve really enjoyed following along with the lives of the Fraser‘s.

I've been having a hard time adulting and instead living on Fraser's Ridge for the last couple of weeks. How do you keep from jumping right into the next book? Can you tell I've been living in that chair? Time to be in the present... for as long as I can stand it. #chunksterchallenge

I really enjoyed it but now the show isn't as good this season. I guess I knew it wouldn't be after I read the book. I didn't like Claire as much in the book. I really like Ian. I give this book 4.5 🔶

I'm this far into my April #chunksterchallenge
I didn't read at all last week, I couldn't go through the scene Claire endures with Hodge and his gang. I was just too exhausted from running a book fair and a book drive while teaching. But now I'm on my #springbreak and I can sit outside if the wind doesn't blow. In the next few days I'll catch up with some picture books (the library would like them back, they've written twice).

Spring break is coming. I've made 32% of my reading goal for this year & 92% of that is kidlit. I'm 38 days ahead of schedule, it's time to join the #chunksterchallenge2022
I'll start on this paperback and then when I get tired, download it to my kindle. #bookishproblems #outlander #reread

Amiable Welcome to the Chunkster Challenge crew ! 3y
mandarchy 😊 thanks! I'm just visiting for a couple of weeks. I read a lot of kidlit, but sometimes I just need to adult. 3y

Finally finished this! Took a lot of effort over two weeks where I had tons of other stuff going on, so am pretty proud of myself. While it could have benefited from some editing, this series is a real comfort read for me and I liked it a lot. It also explained a lot of what happened in season 5 of the show, although I‘m scratching my head a little at how the story seems to be diverging.

#SullivanCat can barely lean on this book, it‘s so big 😹

Scochrane26 If you haven‘t read the Lord John series & her short stories, you may want to before reading the next one. 3y
cariashley @Scochrane26 ooh thank you for the tip! I haven‘t cracked into any of those yet. 3y

It has taken me 3 solid days to get to the end of this. You know it's good when you instantly download the next book. Kidnappings (yes plural) the return of characters, departing characters, and amidst the turmoil the protagonists stay rooted to one another as the American Civil War rapidly erupts around them. So much better than the TV series - which i know is loved (although Sam Heughan is particularly easy in the eye!)

I'm SO late, but thank you for tagging/including me, @DarkMina!

1. A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon (Historical Fiction)
2. Thumbs up! 👍🏻 - I love the mix of historical events, magical time travel, and herbalism. 🌿
3. Historical Fiction is probably my favorite, but I also love a good mystery thriller.

I won't tag anyone since I'm so late, but thanks for letting me play!

Shae_Purcell I just finished this one a couple days ago! Waiting on my copy of An Echo in the Bone to arrive any day now. 4y
jackilynn @spharo I am lucky that I own the next book but I haven't decided if I want to immediately dive right into the next one. I am still processing this one lol 4y
Shae_Purcell @jackilynn My copy came in yesterday, but I haven't started it yet either. Mostly because I know it's going to be a long read. I'm not great at reading multiple books or stories at once, so I'm thinking I might have a light/fun read in-between. Looking forward to hearing what you think about it once you start! 4y

I first borrowed Outlander for a trip several years ago. It's a big book and I'm NOT a fast reader, so I put it to the side. A few years later I picked it up again, ready to try the series, not knowing I'd be reading about the Fraser family for years to come. I love the way Diana Gabaldon writes, so descriptive it draws me in completely. While this book does have adventure and scandal, I loved most the stories of life and family on Fraser's Ridge.

DivineDiana One day, I will read the series! 4y
Shae_Purcell @DivineDiana You'll probably get through it a lot faster than I have! 4y

In honor of World Outlander Day I think it is about time I dive back into that series. I have been reading about 1 a year for the last several years because they are such beasts. Summer is the perfect time too because I have way more time to devote to reading.

brittanyreads I need to do the same haha 😬 4y
jackilynn @BrittanyReads glad to see I'm not alone lol 4y
CoverToCoverGirl I‘ve read them all twice and listened to them all on audio...such epic books 📚 4y
jackilynn @CoverToCoverGirl I have enjoyed all of them so far (except for Dragonfly in Amber, I struggled with that one). My biggest thing is that since they are all so big it takes me longer to read & I am easily distracted by all the shiny new books I could be reading instead hence the 1 a year lol 4y
CoverToCoverGirl @jackilynn shiny new books are definitely a real thing! I knock off ten from my TBR pile and twenty more get added.. 🤭🙂 4y

mandarchy I am not going to lie, I skimmed over all the American revolution stuff. I'm just bored by war lit. When I got to the last book I was really satisfied to be finished. And then I started to think of all the loose ends. 4y
TheSpineView @mandarchy I hadn't thought of just skimming through the rest. Good idea! Though I am not happy to hear that there are a bunch of loose ends. 4y
mandarchy @TheSpineView it's okay, we are all waiting for the next book. I thought the last book was the last book. Then when I started realizing all of the loose ends, I looked into it and found out she was writing another book. It's killing me! I hope this next book really is the last. I love the series, but I normally don't read series. I have too many stands alones to read. 4y
TheSpineView @mandarchy Got it! Thanks! 😊 4y
Shae_Purcell @mandarchy I think this next book is the 9th of the series and the author has committed to writing ten books total (not counting the spin-off series). So one more to go after the release in November! 4y
