The King's Deception (with bonus novella The Tudor Plot)
The King's Deception (with bonus novella The Tudor Plot): A Novel | Steve Berry
12 posts | 19 read | 9 to read
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER This Cotton Malone adventure blends gripping contemporary political intrigue, Tudor treachery, and high-octane thrills into one riveting novel of suspense. Cotton Malone and his fifteen-year-old son, Gary, are headed to Europe. As a favor to his former boss at the Justice Department, Malone agrees to escort a teenage fugitive back to England. But after he is greeted at gunpoint in London, both the fugitive and Gary disappear, and Malone learns that hes stumbled into a high-stakes diplomatic showdownan international incident fueled by geopolitical gamesmanship and shocking Tudor secrets. At its heart is the Libyan terrorist convicted of bombing Pan Am Flight 103, who is set to be released by Scottish authorities for humanitarian reasons. An outraged American government objects, but nothing can persuade the British to intervene. Except, perhaps, Operation Kings Deception. Run by the CIA, the operation aims to solve a centuries-old mystery, one that could rock Great Britain to its royal foundations. Blake Antrim, the CIA operative in charge of Kings Deception, is hunting for the spark that could rekindle a most dangerous fire, the one thing that every Irish national has sought for generations: a legal reason why the English must leave Northern Ireland. The answer is a long-buried secret that calls into question the legitimacy of the entire forty-five-year reign of Elizabeth I, the last Tudor monarch, who completed the conquest of Ireland and seized much of its land. But Antrim also has a more personal agenda, a twisted game of revenge in which Gary is a pawn. With assassins, traitors, spies, and dangerous disciples of a secret society closing in, Malone is caught in a lethal bind. To save Gary he must play one treacherous player against anotherand only by uncovering the incredible truth can he hope to prevent the shattering consequences of the Kings Deception. Dont miss Steve Berrys novella The Tudor Plot and an excerpt from The Lincoln Myth in the back of the book. Two books with some navy blue on the cover. I have read a handful of the Cotton Maole books and some are better than others. But so far, The King's Deception is my favorite. Steve Berry is a very engaging speaker. I was so impressed by him I bought a book having just heard him speak just so he could autograph it. #wintergames2020 #ReadNosedReindeer

Andrew65 This is one of my favourites too. 3y

This is book 8 in the Cotton Malone Series, and I have to say I think it is the best one so far. With the backdrop of the Tudors, and particularly Elizabeth, there is great history in this one and a very intriguing storyline - to say the least. Also good modern day intrigue and interesting developments linked to Cotton‘s own son. Thoroughly recommended and can‘t wait to get to the next one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️

Itchyfeetreader I read the first few of these but did not know there were so many now!! 6y
Andrew65 @Itchyfeetreader Yes the 13th has just been published, with the 14th due to be published next year. 6y

Book #8 Cotton Malone Series. Just finished a group read on LT. So far this is my favorite Cotton Malone book. I enjoyed all the Tudor history and also the reveal of Gary‘s father. I highly recommend this series to those who love historical fiction. An action-packed adventure with lots of interesting characters. Legitimacy of Elizabeth I 49 year old reign in called into question. Read this book to find out why!

Mollyanna Love Cotton! I have a few before I get to this one, but can‘t wait. (edited) 6y
EadieB @Mollyanna hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB @Mollyanna I love reading Cotton Malone books but this is the best so far, a great blend of history, intrigue and adventure. A fascinating backdrop to the story too. Read this book! 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I agree! 6y
Mollyanna @andrew65 I‘ll have to start concentrating on the series to get to #8. 😄. Now I‘m really intrigued. 6y

Finally managed to pick this book up from the library today 🍾 after visiting on Thursday to be told it‘s journey across town from the other library wasn‘t complete. As it was for a Group Read I am leading on starting today this was a close call. 😬🙈 Love Cotton Malone and Steve Berry and this one starts off on Henry VIII‘s death bed so will be interested to see where it goes. Now off to read the Prologue & Chapters 1 to 10 for the first section.

EadieB I like that cover or picture! 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB That‘s the cover on my book. 6y
EadieB Beautiful cover! Must be a new edition! Never seen that one! 6y

Andrew65 @EadieB Might be a U.K. cover, looks like a first edition published in 2013. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I having a hard time posting answers after letter g. Tried on my computer and iPhone. Both times the answer never posted so I suppose it must be a LT problem. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB They seem to be having a few problems recently. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 I think you are right. I‘ll wait til later or tomorrow and see what happens. 6y

Reading with a group on LibraryThing! Come and join us sometime with Andrew, our Question Maker and moderator. We have great discussions.

bookishbunny I really need to sit down and take a better look at Library Thing. The couple of times I've glanced at it, it looked a bit overwhelmed and confusing. 6y
EadieB Every new site takes time but there are lots of nice people to help you. 6y
Andrew65 Well Librarything is still down, at least until tomorrow. This has prevented me putting on posts about group Reads. As I suggested earlier in the week am planning Frozen Stiff first with the questions for the Prologue and Chapters 1-11 being posted tomorrow night (Librarything allowing) and doing it over 4 days. Then start The King‘s Deception on Saturday as can‘t pick it up from the Library until Thursday at the earliest. (edited) 6y

Andrew65 Doing them so close together as conscious some people may already have The King‘s Deception Out from the library. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 that‘s right I do remember about Frozen Stiff being First. I‘ll just add it to my TBR. Are you home already? 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes got in about 50 minutes ago. Only had two very short breaks to stretch the legs (10 minutes) and have a quick drink. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 How many kilometers or miles did you drive today? 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Around about 250 miles, but always takes longer in the Motorhome. 6y
EadieB That‘s enough driving for one day. My beach house is 180 miles from my house and takes us 3 hours. 6y

Nearest book happens to be hubby's?"Gaining admission had been one of the highlights of her life." Wow, that sounds strangely accurate ?although not sure I'd use the term "highlight" ??

Lcsmcat Page 117 is a title page and says "Book 3: Top of the World". I'll take it. ? 7y
julesG What if the book nearest me doesn't have more than 200 pages? Does it mean I'm living on borrowed time? 😱😱😱 7y

This is what I do with my book a day calendar for three years running. I group them into books I've read, own but haven't read, and want to read. At the end of the year, I add the want to read books to my wish list. I keep the own and need to read pages for my "What do I want to read now?" moments.
