23 posts | 18 read | 19 to read
An isolated Swedish town. A deaf reporter terrified of nature. A dense spruce forest overdue for harvest. A pair of eyeless hunters found murdered in the woods. Its week one of the Swedish elk hunt and the sound of gunfire is everywhere. When Tuva Moodyson investigates the story that could make her career she stumbles on a web of secrets that knit Gavrik town together. Are the latest murders connected to the Medusa killings twenty years ago? Is someone following her? Why take the eyes? Tuva must face her demons and venture deep into the woods to stop the killer and write the story. And then get the hell out of Gavrik.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

I finished a book! Yay!

I enjoyed this. Young reporter Tuva works for the local paper in a small Swedish town. A murder in the forest forces her to investigate (She‘s not a fan of forests. Or nature in general) and make links with a killing spree back in the 90s. It‘s very quiet, very detailed- we see every insect, every hearing-aid battery-change, every taste of food - and the tension builds.

But seriously Tuva, just go visit your mother!

rockpools …. and I think I may as well double up and use this as my #bookreport, cos I‘ve read NOTHING else this week! But still. I finished something. Happy weekend, folks. @Cinfhen 2y

I‘ve come to the startling realisation that I can load audiobooks onto my work phone and still have battery on my own phone for Litsy. #gamechanger

Also, I‘m really enjoying this. It‘s VERY quiet so far though.

One of the weekends reads was this taut thriller in which deaf reporter tuva is newly moved to a remote Swedish Town where the nearby woods are oppressive and a character of their own. When a body is found whose injuries mirror those of unsolved murders from the 1990's tuva is ahead of the police in trying to solve the crime. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the book which led up to a thrilling climax, looking forward to more in the series

And somehow I started another new series.
Loved the MC but sometimes I wanted to shout pull yourself together!
Good plot line, totally didn‘t guess the killer.

Was a good thing I was stuck in crazy NYC traffic on a bus today so I got 2 hours in. This is my last book for 2019 and if I finish before 12/31 my last book for my goodreads challenge (cutting it close!)

Totally not holiday related but have been dying to start this one - and starting tonight! Was so hard to get a copy of since I don‘t think it‘s been published in the US yet so my library didn‘t have it but ordered it from book depository.

julesG @squirrelbrain I love my backpack. It's either made of Tardis material, or it was a Mary Poppins carpet bag in a former life. 5y

julesG @Sarah83 I didn't want to buy any books. It seems to be the opposite with me all the time. At the Meet-up in Hamburg I wanted to buy books and couldn't find the right ones and in Chester I didn't want to buy any books and got too many. 5y
Sarah83 Well I know exactly what you mean. If I have a voucher, I don't find any books, if I don't have any money, I find soooo many... 🤔 5y

A deaf reporter in an isolated Swedish town chases the story of grisly murders in a bid for the truth and a chance to write the story which will break her out to a big city paper. Daily life in freezing winter, outsider status, and how she navigates her deafness genuinely compelling. Scandi Noir at its best. Tuva rocks!

This was a good read. Some good twists to the plot and a great build up to the ending. I enjoyed the story and the ending. I had figured out certain things but the killer did surprise me which I really liked. The plot was very steady until the last few pages. The writing is very descriptive and detailed. A good thriller that built to an interesting ending.

I liked Tuva but at times I wanted to scream at some of her decisions.

Set in Sweden, Tuva is a journalist investigating a murder in a forest near her town. She‘s a strong character (& deaf) - it has potential as a series. I loved the atmosphere of the woods & small town life. The plot lacked tension for me: partly because as a journalist she‘s on the periphery of the investigation; & most suspects are too bonkers to have done it (I guessed early on who had). Good Scandi noir though.

We‘re in the pines today, reading a crime novel set in Sweden... it‘s a cold rainy day here in Adelaide so fitting conditions for this one! ⛄️

Lovely to read a book about the cold winter while on a beach 😀 I loved the details and the characters in this one, and the addition of a deaf lead character was an interesting take as well. Will certainly recommend this to anyone who like Nordic Noir!
