Little Book of Lykke: Secrets of the World's Happiest People
Little Book of Lykke: Secrets of the World's Happiest People | Meik Wiking
Join the happiness revolution! The author of the New York Times bestseller The Little Book of Hygge offers more inspiration and suggestions for achieving greater happiness, by practicing Lykke (LOO-ka)--pursuing and finding the good that exists in the world around us every day. While the Danes are the happiest people on the planet, happiness isn't exclusively Danish; cultures around the world have their own unique approaches to leading a contented, fulfilled life. For his work at the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, Meik Wiking travels the globe from Dubai to Finland, Rio de Janeiro to Bhutan, South Korea to the United States, to discover the secrets of the very happiest people. In The Little Book of Lykke, Meik identifies the six factors that explain the majority of differences in happiness across the world--togetherness, money, health, freedom, trust, and kindness--and explores what actions we can take to become happier. As he reveals, we can deepen our blissfulness and contentment with little adjustments in our behavior, whether it's eating like the French (sitting around a table and savoring our time) or dancing the tango like Argentinians in Buenos Aires. With his trademark warmth and wit, Meik explores the happiness gap for parents, how much money you really need to buy happiness, how we can be healthier without having to go to the gym, how we can learn to build trust and collaboration, how we can help ourselves by helping others, and why our expectations often outweigh our reality. Weaving together original research and personal anecdotes, The Little Book of Lykke is a global roadmap for joy that offers a new approach to achieving everyday happiness that not only improve our own lives, but help us build better communities and a better world.

Like the hygge book, this is filled with many ideas and tips to becoming happier. It also gives insight as to what he believes are the components to happiness, and explaining why they are important.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Some excellent advice from The Happiness Research Institute, boiled down to get out more and be with people - as these are things I cannot do at the moment, I have organised my photos of happy memories onto my screensaver and am beginning to look for volunteer opportunities post-Covid #NFN2020 #Book 20pt

veritysalter @Milara He does offer tips on changed you can make, but it is more a look at his research, with cute little graphs and case studies, in a conversational and humorous way. 4y
BayouGirl85 I enjoyed this author's other book about Hygge. 4y

I am so enjoying my first #NFN2020 read, The Little Book of Lykke and reading about the things that make us happy. 5pts

Times have been really hard lately, and I‘ve spent more time crying and worrying than anything else. While working from home the rest of the year can be a blessing, it has also been extremely difficult. I picked up this little guy and the pictures alone in this book are already cheering me up.

It was a sad day across America yesterday so I sat with this little book and truly appreciated the happiness tips. He explained how Denmark places unabashed value on free time. I thought about that reminder all day and hope to never forget it.

Book worth of reading, not only because this is the direct guide to the personal and collective happiness but it change mental picture of perceptions inside me. Grateful to observe it.

Key thoughts on the book:
- We do not in everything to be happy.
- Equality and simple thing may count us together to create meaningful relations.
- I am not impressed by money, social status or job title. I impressed by the was someone treats other human.

There is some good advice in this one such as “buy memories, not things”, and “train your empathy muscle”, be kind and give your time, with stories and examples about what kinds of things people have done. Some of the suggestions such as riding a bike everywhere aren‘t as doable for everyone. Also, some happiness factor examples used in the book were for people who work in offices only, not the service industry or other jobs like manufacturing.

Palimpsest I am between a pick and so-so on this as there is good advice, but not applicable to all. Some of it is similar to the book on Hygge which I enjoyed more. 5y

I present my top 10 books for 2018. This list was harder to select than I anticipated. It is in no specific order as that makes this process even more difficult 🤪😉! My reading goal for the year was 72 and my secondary goal was 100. I finished with 90 books read!

Had some good ideas and interesting info, but I skimmed over the last chapter as it was getting long winded and boring. The pics and formatting was nice though.

Samplergal I read the haggae one and felt the same. A couple of nice ideas and then re-hash. 6y

Another great book by Wiking—I‘m fascinated with the interesting little tidbits he gives us on what makes happier people. I loved the part about reading “literary fiction” and how that makes people more empathetic. I mean, I already knew it, but it‘s nice to hear stuff you‘ve thought all along be confirmed. 😂 Oh, and I love the color illustrations throughout!

SusanInTiburon Wouldn‘t it be great if all books had some illustrations? 7y

After a bad book, I was happy to read this. Not a scientific study, but a nice overview with examples of what makes people happy and who the happiest people in the world are. Much if what I read was not new, but I learned a few things and enjoyed the audiobook. Book15/275

From now on Meik Wiking should release a new book every December and that is how I should start my new year. Always. This is how I started 2017 and how I started this year. Even though I pre-ordered this book and received it the day of its publication I was hard pressed to pass up listening to the audiobook. I would really like to marry Meik Wiking's voice (oh yes he's nice to look at too *wink*). (Review too long checkout my Goodreads 😉.)

2017 has been a difficult year for me and I've struggled for a long time to pull myself out of a dark hole but the last few months have been better. Books like this one which focuses on happiness and how to achieve it have been helping. I wrote a blog post about it today and now I'm looking for other books that might also help me see the positives. Any recommendations?

Librarybelle I read this one when it first came out: 7y

No_One Sorry to hear this. 🙁. I hope things improve very soon! I would recommend Kevin Hart‘s “I can‘t Make This Up” (audiobook if possible) for some pure laugh out loud moments. Aziz Ansari‘s “Modern Love” is also hilarious and very intelligently written. All the best. 💐 7y
