The Walking Dead: Compendium 2
The Walking Dead: Compendium 2 | Robert Kirkman
32 posts | 65 read | 3 reading | 5 to read
Returning with the second eight volumes of the fan-favorite, New York Times bestseller series, The Walking Dead, collected into one massive paperback collection! This is the perfect collection for any fan of the Emmy Award-winning television series on AMC: over one-thousand pages chronicling the next chapter of Robert Kirkman's Eisner Award-winning continuing story of survival horror - beginning with Rick Grimes' struggle to survive after the prison raid, to the group's finding short solace in The Community, and the devastation that follows. In a world ruled by the dead, we are finally forced to finally start living. Collects The Walking Dead #49-96.

Book #3
Same blurb as what I wrote for Compendium 1 - but with the extra excitement of knowing that Conpendium 3 contains Negan. Not nearly as exciting as Jeffery Dean Morgan, but I'll take it. ;)

I've watched 13 episodes of TWD over the past two days. It's the only thing that I seem to be able to focus on for any stretch of time. Gonna try to finish up season 2 tonight. Then I may move on to hallmark Christmas movies. 🤷‍♀️

lahousewyfe That sounds like quite the mood jerk! 4y
Traci1 @lahousewyfe haha yeah. I think I need a break from the dark stuff, and fluffy holiday movies are about as light as I can get. 4y
TNbookworm Oh Dale, I really liked him! 4y
Traci1 @TNbookworm yeah me too. His end was brutal too. 😢 4y

So, saw this today while browsing the wine section, and as much as I used to love the comics, I have to admit that the idea of conjuring up blood and gore while drinking red wine seems pretty unappealing.

Also, on a related note, I am a bad Catholic.

More great storytelling. At first, I was unsure about all the new characters and locations, but I quickly got on board. I should have trusted the writers to develop them as well as earlier characters. My favorite thing about this series is the nuanced look at humanity and how people deal with adversity. There is no black and white and people aren't cardboard cutouts, always acting rationally or consistently. Such a violent yet creative series.

Made a slight dent in TWD Compendium yesterday. 😆 I had to force myself to put it down and go to bed. Have to be somewhat productive today so I need to hold of until errands are done. Adulting gets in the way of my reading.

BookBabe Love the mug! And I feel you on the adulting! 😭 7y
Zelma @BookBabe thanks! It was a super awesome gift in the summer solstice exchange. And I am still in my pajamas right now. Avoiding the day. 🙄 7y

Nursing a stomachache with a guaranteed cure: Vernors. Plus a little Walking Dead. We've been binging on the show (currently in season 2) but I need to dive back into the comics. Sooo different.

Jas16 Hope you feel better soon! 7y

ValerieAndBooks Vernors!! I don't drink pop but my oldest son is a huge fan (we lived in MI for several years). We're able to find it here in PA but not where he goes to college (Boston). So there's been the occasional emergency shipment to there 😂! (edited) 7y
Zelma @ValerieAndBooks 😆 we're out so need to order more. I don't drink a lot of pop either but this is something I love having in the house. (edited) 7y

I feel so out of the loop on Litsy right now. My mother-in-law is in the hospital with a broken hip so we are having stress and frustration here. Trying to just keep it together, which right now involves lots of Walking Dead, some Nora Roberts, and a cheese and cracker plate. Unfortunately out of wine. Seriously thinking about going out to get some. 🍷

Jas16 Oh no! I hope she gets better soon. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Sounds stressful. Hope your reading time helps! 💕 7y
Gezemice Good luck! We are having stressful time with mother-in-law, too. I was going through The Walking Dead as well! Sending thoughts and hugs. 💐🤗 7y

I admit I'm loving these comics. They are well drawn, the story sucks you in, and it has some very thoughtful pieces. I might give the show another shot. In the meantime, I will keep trying to figure out how to get the next giant brick (or the associated volumes) from ILL. We have some in the system, but it looks like it may be a wait to get my hands on one. #comics

Ellsbeth Also, I decided to go on a comics binge at the end of each term. It's a nice counterpoint to several hundred pages of papers that need grading! #teachersoflitsy 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Try hoopla, if your library is a member you can download them onto your phone or pad and read them there (much lighter than the brick). 8y
Ellsbeth That's a great suggestion. Thank you! Sadly, my library doesn't have it. 8y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I just saw your post and responded here, and then checked my comments and saw that you just commented on my post about the same. Great minds! 8y
Ellsbeth Indeed! I hope you have a good day! Thanks! 8y
Serotonin My brother has read the 3rd compendium and has been updating me on the storyline from the comic...while I'm watching the show 👍 😆 We both think Negan is quite the character - both comic and tv version. The actor who plays Negan is awesome 👍 8y
Ellsbeth @Serotonin I saw a story about when they called the actor's agent for a possible bad guy role on the show. When the agent called the actor, his quote was something like, "Is it Negan? It's f'in Negan and I'm f'in doing it!" If that report is accurate, he's apparently a fan. ? 8y

So I ordered some "light" reading for the holiday. I watched a little of the show a while back, but really wanted to read it instead for now. I ordered compendiums (aka bricks) #1-3 from Interlibrary loan. They told me #2 & 3 were unavailable, but I got a notice they were sending me #1, so I was cool with that. I went to pick it up, and it was #2! And it is due in 2 weeks instead of the usual 6. Bummer. #interlibraryloanproblems #comics #comicbook

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Two without 1! What? See if your library participates with Hoopla at all, if it does you can borrow the individual issues (up to 10 borrows a month) and read them on your phone or tablet. That's how I read the last Compendium #3, because I just couldn't handle carrying around another brick. 8y
Ellsbeth @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I admit I'm tired of carrying around these bricks! But the compendiums are better than trying to get all the individual physical volumes from ILL. Hoopla looks awesome. Unfortunately, my state doesn't like funding libraries. The city council tried to cut the library budget by 50% last year until the community freaked out on them. However, I will ask them about this. It looks like a cool service. Thanks! 8y

Delving in to the source material, having loved the series on AMC. What I enjoy most is how the TV show deviates from the original content.

My son is obsessed with these books and desperately wants me to catch up so we can talk about it. Pretty damn grim but I dig it.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa This reminds me, I promised myself I'd catch up with these before the new season starts....guess that means I could start it soon since they are so large. 8y
prowlix I'm debating about starting these around Halloween. My brother gave my electronic copies and swears I will love them 8y
LizKay @Riveted_Reader_Melissa They are massive! But my son just tears through them. I love seeing him so excited about any book. 8y
See All 7 Comments
LizKay @prowlix You should definitely give them a try. They are different enough from the series that neither feels like it spoils the other. We really like the. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @LizKay I've read the first two compendiums already. I started them because my nephew loved them and would insist on telling me, 'you know who's going to be introduced next on the show, it's X and in the comics they are the one who kills Y'. And I just got tired of telling him, 'don't tell me'...and having him tell me anyway. And then debating whether the show would go the same way or not, so I started reading them. But they do take me awhile to 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...get through, they are just too big to cart around and read. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @prowlix go for it! And electronic versions, so nice of him! 8y

Still working my way through this mammoth book. I love the subtle changes between the show and the comic, and seeing how those changes affect the larger story. I hate that I can only read a chapter or so before my neck, arms, or back start to ache...... Big books, why do I love you so much?
