This is a beautiful book in a quiet way. I got it from Dollar Tree because I thought the cover was beautiful. It was worth it. I was afraid after reading some reviews because people mentioned that the ending was abrupt. I did not however, find it abrupt. I found it beautiful and touching. Each part in the book starts out with some monologues and in the end it all makes sense. I'm glad I read it.

Mehso-so

This is somewhere between a so-so and pan for me. The writing style is odd — there is zero dialogue in this book, just long rambling paragraphs that tell instead of show what happens. Still, I was willing to give it a chance because the story had a lot of potential. Sadly, when I finished the last page, the story ended so abruptly and I was mad at myself for reading it. So many missed opportunities. 2⭐️

JenlovesJT47 @Cinfhen it was!! I kept hoping it would get better, but no such luck. The ending was awful and made me want to throw it across the room! 🤬🤯😱 5y

Reading this was like walking through a rainy, humid day—slow and foggy and all you want is to be inside and dry. This story meandered too much to cling to any central plot and the ending was too abrupt to make sense. A firm pass from me. ⭐️⭐️ #Netgalley Book 2/12 for #bfcr3 (SO BEHIND).

The cover of this book grabbed my attention when I saw it on Overdrive. While I liked the story and writing style, it was way too short. The ending left me wanting more, felt abrupt, and unresolved overall. There is so much interesting stuff happening in the characters lives that I think more could have been said. Still a pick though. I‘m not sorry I read it. 3 1/2 ⭐️

What a quiet, beautiful thing this book is. A rumination on family, secrets, love, and loss, it isn‘t a page-turner in a classic sense, but it is engaging and enthralling in its own, simple, elegant way. #therainwatcher #tatianaderosnay

I loved Sarah‘s Key. That being said, I had high hopes for another deRosnay novel. This one missed the mark, and I almost never pan a book. I skimmed the last 20% when I thought the storylines would all tie neatly together, but they just didn‘t. The entire book just felt like it had way too much going on to do justice to any one of its storylines. I couldn‘t get attached to the characters, or their dysfunctional lives. #netgalley #litsyatoz2019

Set in Paris during a rainstorm, this gorgeous, haunting work was captivating from start to finish.
de Rosnay's writing is elegant, hypnotic, and incredibly moving. The story is profound and intense, yet soft and beautiful. I devoured this book in one sitting and would highly recommend.

Reading this while hearing rain fall, makes me feel like I‘m in my much beloved Paris. De Rosnay‘s writing made me believe I was there with Linden, following along on his emotional journey. Such a beautiful story, written with such care. J‘adore!

BookBabe We just got this book! Can‘t wait to read it on a rainy day. 😊 5y

A quiet and contemplative read that really focuses on the characters. Set in modern day Paris during an epic rain storm, this read was more of a character study than big on plot. I enjoyed this read as it was so different than what I was expecting, though I feel some readers may find it too slow. I voluntarily reviewed an eARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

Linden wondered why his mother organized a family get together in Paris for his father‘s 70th birthday since his father didn‘t like Paris.

Their celebration was wonderful until something tragic happened.

THE RAIN WATCHER is beautifully written and pulls you into the story line.

If you like rainstorms and family drama, this book will be of interest. 4/5

Just finished this beautifully written novel.

If you know Ms. De Rosnay‘s work, you will enjoy this book set in Paris.

Linden wondered why his mother organized a family get together in Paris for his father‘s 70th birthday since his father didn‘t like Paris.

In addition to his dislike of Paris, Paris was having torrential rainfall with threats of flooding. The rain and flooding continued throughout their time in Paris.

I enjoyed this during the tropical depression portion of Florence. This is an interesting story about a family facing real problems. The characters were realistic to me and the scene setting was done well. #NetGalley #ARC

Thank you to #netgalley and #stmartinspress for the review copy of The Rain Watcher by Tatiana deRosnay for my honest review.

Linden is heading to Paris to meet his family for a weekend celebrating his father's birthday. The rain doesn't stop. The novel takes place during the historic Paris flood in January 2018. Reaching the apex of the book you see the that the rain stops and then the pain stops.

Definitely recommend!

Bailedbailed

#ARC #NetGalley I LOVED Sarah‘s Key so I was super excited to receive an ARC of Tatiana De Rosnay‘s newest novel. 😭😭😭I tried, but at the half way mark I have no more patience for this slow moving, painfully boring, family drama about secrets and resentment. Ugh! I HATE bailing on an ARC but I need to #KeepItReal and move on #soManyBooksSoLittleTime

Lcsmcat I had a similar experience - loved Sarah‘s Key, but found The House I Loved to be lacking. 6y
Cinfhen I thought this one by her was pretty mediocre at best @Lcsmcat 6y
DebinHawaii That's too bad. I loved Sarah's Key but have not tried her other books based a bit on lackluster reviews like this. 6y
