I love #gothic stories. Tagging one I never hear people talking about, and the only Alcott I have enjoyed. A dark and twisted stalker tale, who would have guessed she could do this well if they know her from Little Women!
Thank you for the tag @Kenyazero ! I‘m sorry I didn‘t post this sooner.
This tagged book has been on my shelf for a long time. I read a few reviews just now and I probably should pick it up sooner rather than later.
I‘m not sure who has been tagged, so feel free to share your #ShelfieCorner too!
A wild ride of a book I didn't expect from Louisa May Alcott. Loved it.

Who has read Alcott's gothic stalker drama?
Love Lamb too. Have read it multiple times and laugh through it always.
Long Way Gone and Last Chance are nonfiction books that honestly changed my life. Made me more aware of the world around me and I honestly adjusted actual things in my life after reading them.

I've had this for ages but, despite hearing good things about it, I've avoided reading it. I'm glad I've finally done so. It's so unlike Little Women, Rose In Bloom, and, my favorite, An Old Fashioned Girl that sometimes it didn't seem like an Alcott book. It was fun and melodramatic and adventurous with a heroine unlike any Victorian lady I've read. At least, not one actually written during the Victorian period. 😉
Look idk what's going on with my tbr pile choices either. Anyway, this was a DELIGHT. Too sensational to be published in Alcott's time there's passion! murder! love! cruelty! Our heroine flees from Italy to France to Germany to England on the hunt for freedom from her dastardly former lover (who might like... Literally be the devil??) Anyway I read this like it was candy.

My of my, definitely not your typical Louisa May Alcott. Maybe 5 stars.
I. Loved. Everything. About. This. Book. Commissioned as a thriller to be written in 24 chapters, each with a cliffhanger to keep readers hooked, this story was never published after it was deemed too sensational. (Alcott often helped her family make ends meet writing thrillers under a pen name.) Seduction, murder, obsession, passion, adventure, (and more) as well as strong female characters & excellent writing—this story has it all. Excellent. ⬇️

First line:
“I tell you I cannot bear it!”
And then, the remainder of the first paragraph just because...
“I shall do something desperate if this life is not changed soon. It gets worse and worse, and I often feel as if I‘d gladly sell my soul to Satan for a year of freedom.”
@ShyBookOwl
Enjoying this book—the story behind the story is just fascinating. Alcott traveled to Europe as the companion of a wealthy young women, the only way she could afford to go. She quit halfway through, couldn‘t handle the girl, & returned home where she was commissioned to write a pulp story, she often wrote thrillers & pulp fiction to make ends meet. Much of this story was inspired by her trip but it was deemed too scandalous & never published. ⬇️
Today feels like A Long Fatal Love Chase type of day so I‘m diving in.
I❤️#bookmail!!! The tagged book because as soon as I heard it was a thing, I knew I had to read it! The author of The Mercies has published several MG books, including The Girl of Ink & Stars which was nominated for several awards, & I wanted to read more by her. Kingdom Keepers because kids running around Disney World fighting villains, paperback edition of In Other Lands because I❤️the book & all the snark, & Star Wars for my son just because.
Hour 18 of the #24in48readathon and I wish I'd waited to post my previous post! 😅 It would've been perfect for this challenge. The book I picked doesn't count for the #hour18challenge but here's why I chose it. I've ashamedly been very judgy of romance novels in the past. I'd like to think I'm a better reader than I was. I picked up the paperback in my picture thinking it was a romance novel and used to hide and read it. See Comments⬇️
That was a pretty messed up book.
21/100 for the year, posthumously published book for #readharder
Excited for this. Suspense/thriller by the author of Little Women, too “sensational” to be published in her lifetime.
I love this (even though I have quite a few vowels in my name)!! Thanks for the tag @Jess7

I loved reading this book! Louisa May Alcott was ahead of her time writing this novel, it's a shame that it wasn't published during her lifetime. This book tells the story of Rosamond Vivian and her unfortunate time being stalked by her former lover, Philip Tempest. It was very gripping and I just had to know how it ended! Check this book out if you haven't yet!! 😄
I'm at 200 followers so I want to introduce myself to the new folks. My name is Sarah and I live in Texas. My Goodreads goal for 2017 is 200 books and I'm doing the #readharderchallenge. I'm leaving for my Colorado Trail #thruhike in three days. 😱 It's 500 miles from Denver to Durango. I'm a cat mom and a crazy plant lady. Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments. Where are you from? Any adventures planned or already taken this summer?
You know someone's a keeper when their vivacity lightens your ennui. 😏
Day17 #MayBookFlowers #obsession I should read the prompts for the photo challenges ahead of time because most of my books for today's #LondonCalling theme for #RockinMay deal with obsession.👀 😆I decided to go with classics I've read where obsession/obsessive characters play a role. I am sure I am leaving some out but these 6 books definitely came to my mind immediately-full of of dark obsessive love, greed, hate, and/or other strong emotions.🖤
