1/100! First read of the year. This was one of Gregory‘s slower novels but still excellent and I‘d definitely recommend if you enjoy historical fiction that centers around monarchies

Yes I am still on this!! I have a strict rule about not finishing a book- I will absolutely struggle with a book on end before and if I finally give up on it; I can‘t put my finger on exactly why I‘m trudging through this but it‘s difficult to push through... I am giving it another try... this will be my last attempt!! 😞

Finished up this series via audiobook. (Whew! All 15 in a year.) The performances were wonderful even if the story wasn‘t all I‘d hoped it would be. I enjoyed the earlier books in the series far more than the last few. I did, however, appreciate that the story of this book was told in part from the perspective of the Shrewsburys. That bumped it to pick, even though I feel like it‘s between pick and so-so for me.
Gregory is an auto-buy author for me. I love her richly detailed description, and character-heavy historical tellings. This alternates POVs between the titular queen and her two “jailers”—an English Earl and his Countess wife. The women scheme and plot, while the Earl is batted back and forth between them. Excellent story!

Grabbing a few minutes of #audiopuzzling before I need to leave for work. This is a HARD puzzle!
We saw Mary, Queen of Scots over the holidays. Now I‘m thinking to dive into this related but different part of her life. Doesn‘t get much #litsylove, but I‘ll give it a go anyway. Also jumping to the last #booked2019 prompt, #politicalintrigue. And #readingwomenchallenge #historicalfiction also.
What has surprised me the most this year is how much my reading taste is changing. I used to love Philippa Gregory, but a short way into the tagged book I was feeling impatient with it so onto the bail pile it goes. I‘m still in the mood for the Tudors so despite finding Wolf Hall *challenging* I‘m going to give Bring up the Bodies a go... (@cathythoughts WHAT am I doing?! I think you may need to stage some sort of intervention... 😆)
Philippa Gregory never disappoints me 😊 I love that new details jump out at me each time I reread one of her amazing books. I am intrigued by Mary Queen of Scots and I can‘t wait to read more about her. This book is a real treat 😊
60 pages left and trying to decide on my next read 😜 here‘s today‘s haul from Value Village 😊I‘m leaning towards Atwood but I‘m not 100% sold...yet 😉
A reread for me 😊 I have to say this book is even better the 2nd time through. I‘ve got to find more books about Mary Queen if Scots 😊

This is my go-to genre when I want pure escapism and Philippa Gregory is my author of choice for drama-filled, page-turning joy. Mostly I borrow books from the library or buy them on my kindle, but I did have a few on my shelves.
It was boring and uneventful. The pacing was tooooooo slow. I don't even know who's the lead character. I thought it was Mary but it was more Bess. I don't get to connect with any of the characters. All I can say is that they were all fools at that time. One good thing I got from the stoy is the moral lesson : "Patience is a virtue."
It took me a while but I finished it!! Never have I read a book in which I didnt like the heroine.. the story was well balanced between characters that it actually makes you choose which side youre gonna be.. and i'm on #TeamBess on this one! #books #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookish #bookporn #bookworm #booknerd #bookaholic #bibliophile #ilovebooks #readordie #lesstalkmorereading #libro #libroserye #theotherqueen #philippagregory

I liked Mary's third of the book. I really didn't have any interest in Bess and George, though. Bess was all about her fortune, and George was all about loyalty. They were actual people, but they didn't like it.
I feel like this would have been a more interesting novel if it went between Mary and Cecil or Mary and Elizabeth or all three of them, and also if it had covered more of her later life in England leading up to her execution.
Not her best work, the characters were unlikeable and flat.
Med school exams coming up soon 😪 but I have a few books piled up that I want to read before I start studying 😬
