"Loigmans strong voice and artful prose earn her a place in the company of Alice Hoffman and Anita Diamant, whose readers should flock to this wondrous new book." Pam Jenoff, New York Times bestselling author of The Orphans Tale Two estranged sisters, raised in Brooklyn and each burdened with her own shocking secret, are reunited at the Springfield Armory in the early days of WWII. While one sister lives in relative ease on the bucolic Armory campus as an officers wife, the other arrives as a war widow and takes a position in the Armory factories as a soldier of production. Resentment festers between the two, and secrets are shattered when a mysterious figure from the past reemerges in their lives. "One of my favorite books of the year." Fiona Davis, national bestselling author of The Dollhouse and The Masterpiece "A stirring tale of loyalty, betrayal, and the consequences of long-buried secrets. marleed Good thing tattoos for women were not a fashionable thing in the 40s. We‘d have a pile of mothers and grandmothers with straight black line tatted up the backs of their legs! 🤣🤣 10mo

Lcsmcat @marleed During WWII my aunt‘s college required them to wear stockings to dinner. Preferring to save theirs for dates and dances they drew the lines on with eye brow pencil. 10mo

Easy read with interesting characters. As an only child, sibling relationships are an interesting subject. Jealous of good sister relationships, and thankful I don‘t have one when I see sisters that don‘t get along. 3/5🌼s

Come-read-with-me I feel the same way! As an only child I‘m intrigued by sibling relationships. My husband, who comes from a large family, always laughs when I ask “Do brothers/sisters really do that?” 4y
Wife @Come-read-with-me It‘s a world we will never really know. When I was a child, I was also fascinated with stories about boarding schools (and sometimes orphanages 😬) because I fantasized that they would be a great source of playmates. 4y
Come-read-with-me @Wife Me too! Siblings just seemed so divine. I would have killed to be a Bobbsey twin! 4y

Picked this novel up at a B&N remainder table. The setting intrigued me because we had toured & visited the Springfield Armory many years ago & experienced a wonderful tour. This novel makes me want to revist as they are undergoing a renovation & have plans to restore the gardens.
This novel has two settings-Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn NY post WWl & WWll Springfield Armory area.

Chelleo I went to B&N today and restrained myself from buying books for myself. My boys both picked up books though (which was the reason for our visit). I did note several titles to add to the TBR list though. 4y
kspenmoll It follows the resentments, misunderstandings, lies, & misdeeds that shape their relationship from childhood into adulthood. Ruth, the elder sister, eager to escape moves to Springfield with her husband where he is an officer in charge of designing & manufacturing new & better arms fir the war. Millie the younger sister, joins them with her toddler son after her husband goes missing. She works making parts for guns in a factory there. Ruth works 4y
kspenmoll In the payroll office. The author has done her research & presents what full lives all the women there enjoyed. The novel is narrated from the point of view of the sisters, & two friends from the Armory, an Italian cook with a gorgeous voice, & the wife of the Armory‘s Commanding Officer. At times heartbreaking, poignant, annoying, suspenseful, it is mainly about the sisters bond, though bent& broken, never breaks. 4y
kspenmoll @Chelleo What restraint! I am impressed. But since it was for your boys...what a wonderful Mom! 4y

This is the second book by this author. I read her first book and enjoyed it so I was looking forward to this one. I found both books to be similar in theme and style but different enough to keep me interested. I like her writing and the way she tells the story. The story takes place during WW II but it is about the lives of the women at home. I read it for my Book Club and look forward to our upcoming discussion.

3/5. This book truly is all about sibling love. I felt like it was repetitive in some parts, but it was a loving story.

This was a beautiful novel about the strained relationship between two sisters during WWII. Going back & forth between their childhood/adolescent memories to their current time of the 1940‘s. You also see the perspectives of two of their close friends & how their lives brought them to their place in the sisters lives. Parts will break your heart & others will have you smiling with pride. 5 starts for me 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Quirkybookworm The only thing thing I didn‘t like about the book was the title. 5y
Texreader Great review 5y
SassyBookworm @Quirkybookworm I can understand that, it kinda deceives you a lil bit into thinking there will be more stuff going on with WWII when in reality it‘s just the time frame of when everything happened. 5y

This story alternates between pre-war Brooklyn and Springfield, MA at an armory during the war. Sisters Ruth and Millie have had a difficult relationship with each other since adolescence, but the war finds them living together again. Each woman has kept something from the other and they struggle to put the past behind them. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

♥️HAPPY PUB DAY!!♥️

FULL REVIEW: https://bit.ly/2RHZquz

THE WARTIME SISTERS focuses on relationships between the sisters, between a mother and her daughters, between other women, and on how everything affected their daily lives.

THE WARTIME SISTERS held my interest because of the well developed characters.

Ms. Loigma's writing is very detailed and pulls you in with the beautiful way she has the words simply grab you.

Don‘t miss reading it.

k.reads.5 Great review! I loved her book The Two-Family House! 6y

This was a beautiful heart-warming story of the relationship between sisters. But it also about the relationship between a mother and her daughters and relationships among women. Each character was very well-developed and relatable. I felt these could be women I know.

I loved the entire story, as it evoked emotions within me. The writing was beautiful and had me totally immersed in the story.

FULL REVIEW 1/22/19

THE WARTIME SISTERS focuses on relationships between the sisters, between a mother and her daughters, between other women, and on how everything affected their daily lives.

When a small comment was slyly dropped in one of the chapters about a truth Ruth kept from Millie and then a truth Millie had kept from Ruth, the interest definitely was upped.

THE WARTIME SISTERS is a beautiful, warm, marvelously researched read. 5/5

I checked my email before bed and realized I won a book from Goodreads. 🤗 Considering my day began with a trip to urgent care because when I woke up I couldn‘t hear out of my left ear (raging ear infection and a partially ruptured ear drum -UGH), I‘m glad to end the day on a positive note. ☺️ 🎉

megt Ugh, what a bummer way to start out your day! Hope you‘re feeling better soon! 6y
PenguinInFlight @megt thank you! 💜I‘m on antibiotics and a nasal spray now, so hopefully I can get this thing kicked. I‘ve slept 40 of the last 48 hours, I think. It‘s really knocked me down. 😴 6y
