Enjoyable, easy read for my holiday. Liked the way the cracks in the seemingly perfect friendships are gradually revealed. Not surprised to hear it might become a film as it‘s perfect for it.

This book is poorly constructed and relies heavily on cheap tricks to keep the reader interested and I don't like anyone in it and I simply do not have the patience to continue. Ruth Ware's In a Dark, Dark Wood has a very similar premise and is much better.

Cathythoughts I agree .... I bailed too ! Although lots of Littens loved it too 3w

I'm only 30 pages into this book and it's already doing things that annoy me, which is probably not a great sign.

1. One of the POVs is written in third person. All of the others are in first person. I have no idea why this is happening and I don't like it. ⬇️

craftysilicate 2. Caginess in first person about which character has gone missing. It's all "the missing guest, the guest, I give a description of the guest to this person" and like, there has to have been a way to build suspense that didn't feel so contrived. Nobody thinks this way. 3w

Perfect beach read. An Agatha Christie assortment of characters for modern life and a vaguely claustrophobic atmosphere, it doesn't keep you guessing, but you're intrigued enough to keep going.

When this cunningly-crafted thriller / locked room mystery opens, we know that someone is missing from a group of guests snowed in at a remote lodge in Scotland. The chapters then move forward & back in time, from various points of view, without revealing the identity of the missing person until close to the end. Lots of interpersonal tensions & bad behaviour. The #audiobook zips along with five different voice narrators.

The book had its good parts, but I felt there were too many perspectives; Emma‘s felt irrelevant until she became more important to the narrative nearer the end, and Doug‘s perspective was not needed at all. Also- even if I should have expected it from the title- I did not like how at some points in the book it promoted hunting, I found it disturbing and saw it as unneeded as the hunting lodge was simply a location and nothing more. A so-so read.

Not a terrible whodunnit, only made better by the mystery not only of the identity of the killer, but also of the identity of the victim. Though I did see who the victim was likely to be, the book is set up in such a way that you have rather too much of a wealth of choices for who the corpse will turn out to be, let alone who the murderer is.

A New Year‘s reunion for 8 friends in the remote Scottish wilderness and one is a murderer and one won‘t make it out alive! Historic blizzard seals the lodge from the outside world. Story is full of suspense, secrets and surprises. Interesting characters that find out how keeping your friends close can be harmful! Reminded me of Agatha Christie‘s Orient Express mystery. Kept me guessing all the way thru! Recommended for mystery thriller lovers!

So I didn‘t love everything about this book, but. I raced through this! It is so readable and if you pick it up, I totally recommend waiting until you have some time to read it in one or two sittings. All the problems kind of melted away and I got so sucked in as I read! This was an interesting mystery and I‘m glad I read it. Extra bonus: it‘s about a New Years party and I read it Dec 31 lol

This whodunnit thoroughly entertained me! It didn't really give me the Agatha Christie vibes that some reviews mentioned, but for me that was a positive since I've personally never taken to her books. The stuck-in-the-woods, "someone here is a murderer", frienemy concept isn't particularly innovative, but I was sucked into it.

Last day of my cruise and you can feel the chill in the air as we get closer. Excited to be back in my own bed tomorrow!

This was a crazy thrill ride that moved in waves of past and present, slowing laying out the ground work of the old friendships and revealing the cracks in the facade. It picked up the pace as it went along, but it was only toward the very end it was fast paced, but it was consistent and maintained a strong sense of suspense and mystery throughout, making me second guess myself a few times before the big reveal.
Overall, a very good, easy read 🦌

I read this one pretty much in one sitting, as my husband was out last night. It‘s an enjoyable twisty-turny thriller about a group of friends holed up in a remote Scottish lodge in a snowstorm. Told from two different timeline perspectives, we know someone has died and the suspect must be one of the party but we don‘t know either person. I didn‘t guess either the victim or the killer, but then I wasn‘t really trying 🤣

Beautifully constructed thriller - and that's the reason I kept reading until the end. The plot threads unfold like clockwork, but the characters are either incredibly unlikable, incredibly flat, or both. Not quite up to the level of Ruth Ware or Tana French for me, but much like a less than awesome toasted cheese sandwich - it was still pretty enjoyable to consume!

This was interesting & kept me engaged but in no way deserves to be compared favorably w Agatha Christie. Despite hiding who the victim was until the end it was pretty obvious. The killer, too, was no surprise. Still I mostly enjoyed the backstories & character studies. "Mostly" because the group of friends were largely unlikable & those I thought I liked got very little screen time & no voices of their own. Ended on hopeful notes for the ⬇️

Wow, this one is certainly splitting people‘s opinions. I really enjoyed it. One of those rare books for me that I was actually thinking they would make into a film as it would transfer really well.
Guessed the victim but not the killer- I thought that was masked well. And yes, full of not very nice people, but that added to it really.

Summary: A group of friends gather together to celebrate the New Year at an isolated lodge in the Scottish Highlands. The group arrives right before a huge blizzard moves in (cue the creepy music). Two days later, one of them is dead.

Thoughts: Overall not a bad atmospheric mystery/thriller. I enjoyed the fact that the author kept the reader guessing at who got murdered and who did it. The ending left me with mixed feelings.

Really fast paced and fun to read in the winter. I really enjoyed this book! There are lots of twists and turns with the characters, which keeps you guessing and wanting to read more. The backdrop of this book is so much fun to visualize, cabins located in the middle of the woods. Only reason it took me so long was because I couldn't find time to read :(
