A very belated thank you to you @robinb This was such a nice surprise to receive. My apologies for not sending the thank you much sooner! Thank you for your kindness and passing it along ❤️. I‘m saving it for a summer read. #LitsyLove

robinb Oh, I‘m so glad that you don‘t have it already! I liked it and hope that you‘ll enjoy it too. You are most welcome. 🤗 3y
JamieArc @robinb I did not already own it, but I love that cover so it‘s one I have been eyeing for a while. My life has been a bit busy and I‘ve been moving very slow on things, so please know how grateful I am to receive it despite my delayed thank you! 3y

I'm not a big fan of Romance, but this is a great novel about the love of two people that ends tragically

ScoobySnacks3 Do you know if the show “The Affair” is based off of this book? 4y

I saved this book so I could read it on the beach during my vacation. It was a good beach read, with an okay story line and some likeable characters. But the ending of the book just pi**ed me off.

Becker I‘m reading it right now and was enjoying it until the scene in the doctors office which I thought was ridiculous. I‘m curious now about the ending. 5y
aliasNayNay @Becker I didn‘t like the ending. And now that I think of the book, the characters where really not that likeable. Let me know what you think. 5y

#WeeklyForecast. More likely January‘s forecast. I signed up for 3 buddy reads The Women of Copper Country, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Depths of Glory. My first pick off #MyNewYearWhoDis list is Montauk and the other three are what I am reading from now until New Year‘s Eve. Things are settling down in my world and I have lots of good books to read. 2020 is going to be a great reading year!

Cinfhen That pile in top left corner is awesomeness 🧡 5y
megnews You‘ll love A Tree Grows in Brooklyn! It was my favorite read this year. 5y

I really enjoyed this book. It is a great summer beach read. This book is the author‘s debut novel and she wrote it in a way that I almost felt like I was there.

A book set in an east coast beach town felt uber appropriate for reading while on vacation in an east coast beach town (I‘m about 150 miles straight south of where this book takes place). I haven‘t read historical fiction in awhile and so far I‘m really enjoying this story. Coincidentally, this is my third St Martin Press book in a row. 🏖

1938 Montauk NY is the new summer playground for NY rich. Beatrice is abandoned there weekly while her husband Harry returns to the city to work. It is there that Bea, a small town farm girl, starts to question where she really fits in. She finds heself drawn to the village, its inhabitants and one particularly handsome lighthouse keeper. It was a great read. The beginning was slow but it pucked up as it rolled along. ❤❤❤❤

Hey hey bookish 🦋🦋🦋!

It's been a while, hasn't it? Hope you've been lounging in the sun/shade and soaking up some excellent summer reads! I know I have!

ICYMI, one of the books I've recently absorbed and posted about on IG was #Montauk! It's a pretty dramatic yet hopeful #beachread. And the descriptions of scenery for this gorgeous island retreat are breathtaking!

What books have you read/are you planning to read this summer? Comment below.

Montauk is located on the eastern tip of Long Island, and this book is set in 1938. It is the story of Beatrice Bordeaux, a married 27-year-old Manhattan socialite and her fateful 3 1/2 months summering there that will change her life forever.

There are lots of issues running through this book...social class differences (both economically and ethnically), gender inequality, infidelities, etc. 🔽🔽

robinb At the heart of it is how a grieving young woman, grasping at an advantageous match in an effort to pull herself back into life, ultimately realizes her naivety about the choices she‘s made. She has to decide if she has the courage to reach deep, remember who she is and commit to what she wants in life.

robinb I had mixed feelings about this story. While I rooted for Beatrice to come into her own, she had a few moments of snideness and made a few decisions that weren‘t well thought out, and I often ended up wanting to throttle her. 🤦🏻‍♀️ And unfortunately the ending was fairly predictable as well. 3.5/5⭐️

Thanks to #BookedUpAllNight and @StMartinsPress for the ARC!

“That alone gave me hope. Something was better than numbness. Something was better than not caring, not dreaming, not daring.”

Our protagonist is having a really bad moment in life at this point...until something comes along and gives her a tiny boost of confidence and more importantly, hope. Love this! ❤️

Crazeedi Interested in your thoughts on this! 5y
robinb @Crazeedi So far I‘m enjoying it! It‘s a bit of a chunkster (at about 400 pages) so it may take me awhile as I‘m a slower reader. 5y
Crazeedi @robinb oh I love books bigger than 400 pages!!! 5y
robinb @Crazeedi Me too, but being a slower reader they sometimes take me awhile to get through! 🤣👍 5y

This book was not what I expected at all. This starts as your typical literary fiction and turns into a faced paced page -turner that I wanted to know what happened. This is well worth it, if you can get past the first 100 pages. Really loved the main character. She starts as a typical housewife in the 1930‘s and who she becomes in this one summer, is terrific.

I really didn‘t like this one. Historical fiction (and regular fiction for that matter) has covered the Unhappy Wife in an Unhappy Marriage angle pretty darn well up until this point. This book contributes absolutely nothing to the genre. It was plodding, unrealistic and overly manipulative while trying too hard to be moving and poignant. It fails. There are better books out there that explore these themes. Read those instead. #ARC

britt_brooke Love honest reviews - thanks! This does not seem up my alley. 5y
KatieDid927 @britt_brooke Anytime! I‘m admittedly picky when it comes to romance driven storylines but I was wishing I was reading Beatriz Williams or even the classic The Awakening instead. This was just not executed well, imo. 5y

Montaigne, Long Island, the year is 1938.
Harry Bordeaux is a banker in Manhattan. Harry and his wife Beatrice decide to visit Montauk Manor, a fancy beach side resort. Surprise, Harry is dumping Bea there and will only visit on the weekends, leaving Monday thru Friday for his extracurricular activities. Bea meets Thomas the keeper of the lighthouse. One thing leads to another and Bea is pregnant. The ending will shock you! Very good read!

#WinterWonderland #SeasonsReadings My #December #TBR is to wrap up my ARCs 🙏🏻 I‘m currently in the middle of two. Im loving Once Upon A River but not so much The Trial of Lizzie Borden ( it‘s VERY dry). Top two were gifted by publisher ( THANK YOU @StMartinsPress ) and I‘m very excited to read both of those titles. @StMartinsPress consistently publishes thought provoking and buzz worthy books ❣️❣️❣️

LeahBergen Wait... Lizzie Borden? Is it fiction or nonfiction? 6y

Cinfhen I‘m reading the Lizzie Borden through #BlueFireReader on my iPad @Reviewsbylola but it does expire and disappear when the publisher archives the book. It‘s not that good so don‘t feel bad if you skip it 6y
Cinfhen I know @Kalalalatja I‘m looking forward to that book but I have a feeling you will love 6y
