Zac And Mia
Zac And Mia | A.J. Betts
Mia's not your typical hospital patient. Her next door neighbor Zac can hear her fighting with her mom and the nurses through their shared wall and he wishes she'd get over herself. But soon they are trading messages that evolve into a bond neither sees coming.Apart from illness, they have little in common: she's a gorgeous girl with an entourage of perfect friends and he's a soccer-playing farm boy. In the real world, these two seventeen year-olds would have little to say to each other, but in the hospital the usual rules no longer apply.By the time Zac is discharged, Mia is gone too, and he wonders about her. Is she okay? Is she better? He can't find out. She's left Facebook and won't answer his texts. Until the night he hears a tap at his window.Told in alternating perspectives, Zac and Mia tracks the relationship of two ordinary teenagers in exceptional circumstances. They're both in remission, but cancer has changed everything, and normal isn't normal anymore. This is a funny and tender novel about hope, love, and courage.

I enjoyed the characters in this book, but nothing really stood out to me. It reminded me of The Fault in our Stars, but it just didn‘t grab me the same way. I did like the dual perspective and the way it went from different settings, but it just was a bit repetitive in parts and I didn‘t love the writing.

Growing up, facing adversity, & finding meaning in hardship.
📚
Zac & Mia uses alternating perspectives to contrast two experiences of adolescent cancer. Zac & Mia deal with their diagnoses very differently.
📚
Zac & Mia learn about their illnesses and themselves, navigating treatment & finding joy as not-so-average teenagers. The book deals with themes of illness, mortality, hope, loss, & family.

I didn‘t know this was made into a tv series And I happily stumbled upon it on Netflix.

I really enjoyed this book when I read it and can‘t wait to dive into the show.

So far the story only shows Zac‘s point of view. Zap is trying to communicate with Mia through notes and knocks in the wall, but Mia isn‘t responding the way he wants. He over hears arguments between Mia and nurses and wishes he could tell her it‘s not there fault. The genre of this book is realistic fiction. If you like books about people dealing with illness or friendship, this book is for you.

MissYaremcio This sounds like such a good one! Great review! 5y

I laughed, I cried, I felt fear, and love. A great read by A.J. Betts telling the story through the eyes of two teens who endure illness and heartache.
Definitely a recommend read!

Zac and Mia becomes friends after sharing a wall in the cancer unit. The story is told in alternating POV‘s showing how each teen deals with their cancer. Zac has a big supportive family who lift him up when he is feeling down. Mia doesn‘t have that, it‘s just her mom and they don‘t get along.

Despite the heavy subject this book had a lot of funny moments and it was great to get two different stories that converged into one.

I love strawberries and blueberries. They are basically the only fruits safe for me to eat so I have them a lot.

My next read is a lot lighter in pages than my last. I needed something that was under 300 pages after that last book.

#HeyJune Another YA book that I read and enjoyed ,which I believe has been turned into a TV series. Zac & Mia are two teens who “meet” while in isolation of their adjoining hospital rooms. Completely opposite in nature & personality the 2 are drawn together based on their shared circumstance. A friendship leads to a romance but really all they want is normalcy #IWantToHoldYourHand 🌟🌟This has been compared to Green‘s FIOS 🌟🌟

Centique Sounds lovely. Stacked! 6y
Cinfhen I read it years ago but I remember a passage about wanting the normalcy of simply holding hands and not thinking about potential germs and infections. @Centique it‘s a quick read and will leave an impression 6y

emilyhaldi This also sounded a bit like this book I won in a Goodreads giveaway until I reread your blurb more carefully and decided maybe not 😆 in your book the characters are patients in the hospital - in my book they are working in the hospital and bond over the patients they tend to. Another TFIOS-type book - this one seemed more realistic and a bit more hopeful in the end. Plus, it's set in Australia and has kangaroos! Narration was really well done, with a man and woman switching off for the two narrators, Zac and Mia. Nothing earth-shattering but an enjoyable enough read.

I'm sorry Mia is sick, but she's obnoxious and annoying. Zac criticizes his mother's weight. I dislike them both immensely and, although I wish them well, I'm not sticking around to find out what happens to them.

I knew only that this was a #YA book when I started listening. I had received it as part of the AudioSync summer program and needed something to listen to in the car, so I pushed play. It turned out to be a pretty decent read. I really felt for and with both Zac and Mia. Not only was their story together a believable journey, but also their individual paths. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #litsyatoz #letterz

I've had a busy weekend thus far and haven't been able to log as much reading time as I was hoping, but thanks to 3 hours in the car, I was able to finish listening to Stars Above and get through nearly half of Zac and Mia. As soon as this horrible Packer performance is over, I intend to spend the rest of the night reading away! #24in48 @24in48

This book is narrated by both Zac and Mia. Both characters start the novel as total strangers who communicate through a hospital wall. Both are fighting cancer, and what I found most moving about their battles was how the book exposed the emotional toll cancer has on humanity. This book is not just about cancer, it explores love, friendship, self image, and adventure. I particularly liked how the ending is more realistic than I expected

I liked this book, except that the ending was not very good, in my opinion. I'm very tired of girl/boy relationships ending w/ romance. I wish that there was just a friendship between Mia and Zac

I think this book is really cute and while the whole thing is kind of sad. You really do fall in love with the characters and even their small amount of relationship you fall for because that's what the story was meant to do. I highly recommend this book.
