The beginning was difficult to get into, but I‘m also just not a fan of 1st person present tense—yet this book is better written than most others written in that way. I had a hard time liking Finch and Violet in the beginning and even when they got to together; however, I do understand why the book is popular. It just wasn‘t for me. I did think the mental health issues were well addressed though which is often hard to do in novels. 3.5/5

I got the ugly cry I asked for 😭 While the writing style is catered to a more teenage audience, it has been a long time since a book has moved me this way. It very accurately/realistically portrays the struggles with teenagers and mental health, specifically suicide and bipolar disorder. It broaches these subjects in such a perfect way as to make it feel real and heavy in an attempt to gain understanding from a mostly uneducated audience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

shxriel i made the mistake of reading this in public and this woman asked me if i was okay😭 i love this book so much 1y

I‘ve been reading a lot of thriller and fantasy novels as of late. I love a wide variety of genres, but for some reason I‘ve found myself defaulting to these two specifically. So, to try and mix things up a bit, this will be my next read! It‘s been so long since I‘ve read something in the romance genre, and I am totally ready to ugly cry 🥹😅💔

It didn‘t make me want to read and it took me more than a month to finish. It wasn‘t the most exciting but when I read it, I did so with ease. Although I did like the story! I liked how we got to see Theo‘s side of the story and it really hurt me. Even though I didn‘t cry, my heart hurts. Another thing I found interesting is that this book wanted me to look at the author's note, and when doing so I found it interesting. Overall: 3.5 / 5 stars

I fell in love with Finch and Violet. There was a lot here that reminded me of my own teen romance. Read it in a day — and except for that treasure hunt for closure bit I was all in.

Ahhhh no!!! I finished this book with tears rolling down my face. It‘s going to take a long time to recover after this book. This book has all the emotions tied together. You will feel moments where you are happy, confused, angry, and really, really sad. I feel awful for Violet and what she has to go through. Finch was gone to early. If you want a book that will make you bawl your eyes out this is for sure a book that will do that.

I just finished the part where Violet and Finch stay out to late and when they get home Violets parents get so mad. Her parents told her she could never see him again. That made me so mad because they‘re perfect together. Finch tried to apologize to her parents but they shut the door in his face! Why do her parents have to be like this???

TW- suicide. W O W! I finished this book in less than 24 hours because I truly couldn‘t put it down. I really identified with Finch‘s self deprecating humor in the first half of the book. His chemistry with Violet was practically palpable! Sort of reminded me of Looking for Alaska. I need recs for similar books!

This book is really good so far. I love Finch‘s curious mind and how he is not afraid to express himself and how he feels. Violet is a very quiet person who‘s not very open to people. Finch and Violet are very opposite but I can already feel they will have a connection.

I‘m not very far into this book yet. I am very curious why underneath Finch‘s name it‘s counting the days, and under Violet‘s name it‘s counting days until graduation. What could it mean? Why is it not counting days until graduation for Finch, and only Violet?

14/52: All the Bright Places

Suicide is a sensitive topic for me and this story touched me because of how well it was written. Mental health is and will always be important to write and talk about. Great job

Also I‘ve been kinda procrastinating on reading lately, sorry.

TW: SUICIDE MENTION

I didn‘t adore this book, and here‘s why:

One of the characters, Theodore Finch, commits suicide. Before he does so, he leaves a bunch of clues for his girlfriend (Violet Markey) to find. From the moment she began to search for them, Finch began to fade from a well-developed character to a concept. Instead of a person with his own struggles, he merely became a vague idea there to heal Violet.

Not a huge favourite of mine.

I‘m only halfway through this book but let me tell you the characters development. Finch is a spunky, careless person that really cares for violet. And violet is a quiet, loveable character who is amazing at writing. I am very excited to finish this book if you want to read it I really recommend it but it has a lot of heavy topics

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good book!

"I know life well enough to know you can‘t count on things staying around or standing still, no matter how much you want them to. You can‘t stop people from dying. You can‘t stop them from going away. You can‘t stop yourself from going away either. I know myself well enough to know that no one else can keep you awake or keep you from sleeping."

At night when I‘m lying awake because my brain won‘t shut off due to all there is to think about.
Is today the day?
And if not today—when?Book All bright places. Im sure every teenager or young adult has had that night where your awake because your brain just won't shut off, it just won't stop thinking, weather if you're thinking of your after life, something that happened that day it's like a never ending thinking going and cause stress.

Lately, I have been grabbing books off my shelf without reading what they are about first. Had I known what this one was about, I don‘t think I would‘ve read it right now. A student of mine is having a major mental health crisis at the moment and so this book hits a little too close to home. That being said, I did really enjoy it.

I remember, I really liked the book, but sorry, not sorry, the film on Netflix was just annoying. Those dialogues‼️? Were they also this awful in Jennifer Niven‘s book❓

It was too much cliché and soft focus lens for me. And the worst: that monologue Violet held in the end had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the original assignment her teacher gave.

Plot holes, plot holes everywhere.

Book #10: I listened to this as an audiobook and LOVED it. I laughed && cried (although I‘m pretty emotional as a person so.). As a therapist and neurodiverse trauma bb, I love books that show the depth & nuance of living with mental health. This one isn‘t perfect - there are some things I may have changed - but I loved it and it inspired me to wander. Definitely recommend! I like the voice actors for the audio too :)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this one! It‘s such a brokenly beautiful story. This book broke me, and the darkness that Finch feels is overwhelming. But there is also light in the moments with Violet. “You are all the colors in one, at full brightness”. I would read this again and my hearts goes out to Finch.

Just got done watching this. I really liked it. Now I gotta go hunt the book down. #MentalHealth

Let's talk about it. What do u think happened to him???

#TBRCrew

@ElizaMarie @AsYouWish @jb72

Moonprismpower I watched this too. The ending was so sad. I am glad though that depression is written about in a more open way these days. Especially to encourage teens they are not alone and can get help. I also had to go back and check, it was bipolar. (edited) 4y
AkashaVampie @Moonprismpower totally. My hubby looked it up and I guess they use this movie/book in school to help talk about mental health. 4y
Moonprismpower Also since I didn‘t read the book and watched the movie forever ago ...I‘m pretty sure one of his parents, his dad maybe? Is also bipolar and severely abused Finch. Bipolar can be passed down but it can also just show up, usually in the teens from what I know. So I think Finch just had a double whammy bad deal on life which really made him so suicidal. But I have a family member who‘s bipolar and he had a pretty decent upbringing. Life can be 1/2 4y
See All 9 Comments
Moonprismpower 2/2 great but being bipolar makes you have severe ups and downs. And it‘s almost uncontrollable depending on meds and methods. 4y
AkashaVampie @Moonprismpower u are right... it was his father that abused him. I dont really know bipolar but I do know depression. I was diagnosed with Dysthymia when I was 15 yrs old. Its just a fancy name for chronic depression. I have been off and on meds (currently on them). I just turned 35 today. I have tried suicide before but my friends helped me. I am feeling good these days. 4y
Moonprismpower I‘m on antidepressants too. Mostly for anxiety & some depression. I just got back on them after the last two years without them. I tried it on my own but I‘ve been falling back into my old ways when it comes to how I express my anxiety and I don‘t know about you but COVID has me “working” from home four days a week which has negatively impacted my emotional, physical and motivational wellbeing. 4y
AkashaVampie @Moonprismpower I'm a stay at home wife and mother. I havent worked since 2010. My bitchiness comes out really bad if I'm not on meds. I do have some anxiety (not really diagnosed), but isn't bad. I like being home in my own little space. But I can see that not being able to go to work gives u issues. U are more than welcome to vent to me sweetie. My email is akashavampie@gmail.com drop me an email anytime. 4y
TheLudicReader The book is so good. 4y
