Obviously loved this reread. What a life-sustaining book. I really ought to get myself volume two!

"All my life
I have been restless--
I have felt there is something
more wonderful than gloss--
than wholeness--
than staying at home.
I have not been sure what it is."
"but now and again there's a moment
when the heart cries aloud:
yes, I am willing to be
that wild darkness,
that long, blue body of light."
From "Whelks"
Such beautiful poetry!
Today I am sad. My puppy ate four (4!) of my books. They were all newly purchased. Started reading this the other day. Trying to read a little bit every evening. Also trying to finish some of the books I've started, but never finished.
From Mary Oliver "The Truro Bear ".
Rereading, love every poem. She was such a treasure
⬆️When Death Comes-Mary Oliver. Mary Oliver passed Jan 17, 2019 I don‘t read a lot of poetry and I have barely started to delve into Oliver‘s work. What I have read from her speaks deeply to me. I heard the best way to describe Oliver, on the Book Riot Podcast, Rebecca said, “If Nature is your church, Mary Oliver is the high priestess” 2019 has become a year where I come back to what I love. #poetrymatters photo: Nigel & I on a walk back in Fall
Delighting in this birthday gift from a dear friend who understood how saddened I was by the death of Mary Oliver.
❤️
Goodbye, Mary Oliver, rest in peace. Heartbroken, but grateful for every word.

Could not resist one more sun poem. I hang this poem up in winter to read when it‘s so cold I hate to leave my toasty bed. My bed is next to an east facing window so the sun streams in.
"Sometimes the great bones of my life feel so heavy and all the tricks my body knows...don't seem enough to carry me through this world..."
“to be wild and perfect for a moment, before they are
nothing, forever”
-‘Peonies,‘ Mary Oliver. #poetry
Squeezing in a few poems before my 💛 gets home and we enjoy my (locally) famous “Super Secret Special Lemonade” cocktail (from my bartender days) al fresco 👅💦🍋🥃🍒🍃🌸
I bet Toby here would relate to Mary Oliver.
“...
Inside the bright fields,
touched by their rough and spongy gold,
I am washed and washed
in the river
of earthly delight—
and what are you going to do—
what can you do
about it—
deep, blue night?”

And if your spirit
carries within it
the thorn
that is heavier than lead—
if it‘s all you can do
to keep on trudging—
there is still
somewhere deep within you
a beast shouting that the earth
is exactly what it wanted ...
Book 2 of #24in48 finished. I accidentally took an Advil PM this morning for my headache instead of an Excedrin. Light reading required as I'm so sleepy now. 😂😂
Mary Oliver. ❤️ Are words even necessary?
“Make of yourself a light,”
said the Buddha
before he died.
...
clearly I‘m not needed
yet I feel myself turning
into something of inexplicable value.
"Still, what I want in my life / is to be willing / to be dazzled - / to cast aside the weight of facts / and maybe even / to float a little / above this difficult world."
I find a new gem every time I re-read Mary Oliver. I read "Strawberry Moon" for the first time last night and it blew me away.
A little Mary Oliver for the soul. 🖤
Thought I'd shake it up a bit and try some poetry 😊
"cramming / the black honey of summer / into my mouth" -Mary Oliver
Not that I ever really finish a poetry book, but it feels like time to move on to Volume 2.
I have been reading a couple of these poems every morning, to start my day. Each morning I can be sure she'll point out some "ordinary" thing and it will shine with meaning and wonder. She is a remarkable poet who writes in the language of field, wood and seashore, not that of the PhD thesis. Her poems challenge me to love this world and to love being here.
Wound up ready for work 40 minutes early this morning. Sneaking in a little reading and snuggling time.
Lately, Mary Oliver is the poet I turn to more than any other.
(These lines are from her poem, "Skunk Cabbage")

Beginnings are important. I like to start the day with a cup of tea and a couple of poems.
(I'm new here: this is my first post!)
