@WanderingBookaneer made hot dogs on our new BBQ — yum!
I saw Lisa Hanawalt, creator of Bojack Horseman, speak at xoxo conference a few years ago. I don't know why it took me this long to read this. it's bizarre and funny and I love it.
What even is this?! Sorry, just not my thing. Intentionally bad art, goofy humor (mostly food based). I'm sure it took the author a lot of work, but to my eye, it seemed lazy. That said, it does nothing to affect my adoration of BoJack Horseman
An excellent between-books-palate-cleanser: much weirdness, occasional grossness, lots of laughs. Many of the comics in this quirky collection are food-related. Some are bathroom-related. Hanawalt has a unique way of looking at the world. 🙃
Çartoonist Hanawalt spends a day shadowing chef Wylie Dufresne and she eats well at his WD-50 restaurant:
"The maître D keeps bringing new wines and asking which ones he should take away. This is like a fitting room for wines. Except they all fit great!"
After reading a gruesome essay about electricity and human cruelty to animals (in Animals Strike Curious Poses) I'm ready for Hanawalt and her bizarre sense of humour.
One more Lisa Hanawalt anthology from Drawn & Quarterly and a fun Lisa fact: she's one half of a legit power couple, with comedian Adam Conover, who has pidgeotto hair and I'm crushing on. Watch his show Adam Ruins Everything on TruTv if you enjoy seeing myths debunked on everything from immigration to dogs. We get to see him illustrated in Hog Dog Taste Test as he & Lisa travel to Las Vegas to review buffets for Lucky Peach!
Books that made me hungry. Apparently I like processed meat on a bun! 🌭🌭😁

Baby books? Who needs baby books? Just steal Mama's.
I just wrote a thing and accidentally deleted the whole damn thing. So, this is a totally awesome foodie memoir that everyone should read if you like food and shenanigans and the like. And birds in the middle of the book that appear randomly but totally work!

That was book 12 of my #24in48 #readathon stack. Thought it's officially long over I'm not stopping till I hit my goal. I'm currently at 20:45!
Book 12 in my #24in48 readathon should get me out of the slump the last book left me in.

I'm sort of shocked by how much I enjoyed this. Her artwork isn't typically my style, and when I flipped through it a few times I was underwhelmed with what I saw. But after starting at the beginning and plowing my way through, I have to say I really liked this, esp the Argentina, Las Vegas, and otter stories.
The art and abundance of color are fantastic. This made me laugh and other times it was just over my head.

Got this in my subscription box last night! I'm not sure what to expect aside from a lot of fun 😜
Update: totally not up my street but I didn't hate reading it
Got this in my Landfall Freight Co. Subscription box. I am not disappointed. Lisa Hanawalt is hilarious.
It's just as strange and wonderful as I'd hoped it would be.
