3.5⭐️ I read this for the most recent #bookcougars #readalong. For the most part I enjoyed the book, but I didn‘t expect it to be as steamy as it was. As I said during the chat session, I enjoyed the historical context of the book, but the rest of the story seemed to be a bit contrived in places. I‘m not much of a #romance reader, but I was glad to dip my toes in this genre. #2024 #fiction #bookreview #historicalfiction #fiction

The ultimate reason I didn't like it is because I did not love the juxtaposition of spicy hot romance with a part of history filled with darkness and death. I think I prefer my romances to be a bit more "fun." I found it jarring to be part of the group of characters learning about John Brown's death (he is a very minor character in the book), then literally the next page our sexy protagonists are all over each other. Just not for me.

This was amazing. It might be the 1st time I've read a romance book that I've learned actual history from. I'm also learning a lot about romance books and I'm very sad to see the genre not getting the respect it deserves. Read what you want. Read for fun. Screw the reading snobs. #Blackvoices @ShyBookOwl I recommend any book written by Beverly Jenkins. I especially love her historical romances. They are set during and after the civil war and I always walk away learning something new about the life and struggles for African Americans during this time.

Never did I think I would read a romance novel that was well written, entertaining and informative. Beverly Jenkins is definitely a master writer.

I haven't read a book by her that I didn't like. This was a good one too.

This was excellent, a classic romance built around a fictional account of the Underground Railroad pre-civil war. So incredibly good. Though I think I would recommend the text version, the narrator is just OK, with somewhat odd pacing. Otherwise I highly recommend to anyone who loves period romance! #romantsy #audiobook

I've been trying out romance novels through Libby and thought I'd give Beverly Jenkins a try (also happens to be a great #readharder pick for romance written by an aoc!) . I'm so glad I tried it because I thoroughly enjoyed this steamy historical featuring smart, saucy underground railroad conductors finding love and freeing slaves like the bad asses they are.

Listening to #Indigo written by the Slayer of Words herself seems like a great way to kick off Black History Month. Also, if you‘re looking for a classic in genre fiction for Book Riot‘s Read Harder challenge, Indigo is absolutely a classic romance!

I read this book becauseI enjoyed some of the latter connected books. I wouldn't say this was one of her stronger ones. Still, enjoyable.
