#two4tuesday
1. The characters and story were engaging and I tore through it quickly!
2. I‘d like to see Gabe‘s post-high school life. Is he working in radio and in college? In a relationship?
If you want to play, consider yourself tagged! 🤗

Music-loving Minnesota teen Liz transitions to Gabe and has to navigate his new life and what that means for him and his family and friends. There are many bumps in the road, but when he lands a show on local radio, he just might find his tribe.

Gabe is in search of a #NewBeginning. Born Elizabeth, he wants to transition, but is bullied by his classmates and dismissed by his parents. When a neighbor offers him a spot during a local radio show, Gabe begins to DJ as himself and finds community with his listeners- the Ugly Children Brigade. I read this a few years ago and can't be sure how well it has aged...but I remember finding it sensitive and engrossing. #BloomingBibliophiles

The main character loves records and has a show on the local community radio station.

I'm so glad I read this story about Gabe, a young transgender man. He loves music, his neighbor John, and his best friend Paige. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the references to music! Reading about John and Gabe making playlists for Gabe's radio show made me nostalgic fir mix tapes.
I took a few books to work with me today, because I wasn't sure what I'd feel like reading at lunch. This one captured my attention, and I'm really enjoying it, especially all of the references to music. 🎶
I was hooked on this book. As a trans guy, it feels good to see any good representation anywhere, and this author pretty much nailed it. It was a very personal experience while reading it. But the cherry on top of it all is the main character's love for music and his radio show.
Tip: Read it before bedtime and when Gabe does his radio show, actually play that song on YouTube or wherever you prefer and continue the book like this.
I‘m giving it a pick, because there aren‘t many books out there with FTM characters. But it doesn‘t pack the emotional punch of Parrotfish, or Gracefully Grayson, or have the depth of Being Emily.
Or, for that matter, Stone Butch Blues, which I still hold up as the holy grail of FTM fiction.
First read of the new year: one that I‘ve had in my tbr since shortly after it came out.
So we‘ve been using a temporary library while renovations are done on the main one (due to a v bad storm last year!) The main one will be done next week! So I took out my last books from the temp library before then. Found all of these just on the shelves! Yay!
Part of me loved this book because there aren't many that focus on transmasculine characters and the other part loved it because I was obsessed with Pump Up the Volume when I was a kid, lol. Time to rewatch.
This is about Gabe, who gets to embrace his identity on the radio but struggles with his transition in the real world. I especially appreciated the info and further reading at the end of the book.

Spent the day finishing up some holiday shopping at the Sugarloaf Craft Fair (gotta support my handmade artisan peers). Now I'm warming up with some spicy hot chocolate and this book that I absolutely can't put down.

In the mood for some trans-positive lit so I've picked up Beautiful Music for Ugly Children. Hope it's good 💜

Part of my #libraryhaul from yesterday. I'm proud that my local library is bringing in more diverse books like this. It's my first book involving trans issues and I can't wait to read it!!! I'm trying to read more diverse material myself. 👍👍📚📚❤❤
Okay I may have gone overboard with the stickers but I LOVED this book!! Such a beautiful story about Gabe exploring his passion (music and DJ-ing) and finding the bravery to be his true self even when it seemed impossible. I loved his relationship with his mentor John and his best friend Paige. If you haven't read this yet, DO IT! #24in48 #Queer52 #transbooks #weneeddiversebooks

Book three complete for #24in48
OMG this book is soooooo good! Like stay-in-the-bathtub-long-after-the-water-has-gone-cold good! I did not want to put it down even for a minute. 😆 Back to it now and I'm almost seven hours read in so far!! #24in48
Okay finally awake - devouring coffee and eating a small breakfast! So excited to start this book!!
Two more lovely #queerbooks for #Queer52 came in today! Adding to the stacks for #24in48!!
#Nationalcomingoutday! ❤️💜💙💚💛. Just finished Beautiful Music for Ugly Children (Kleenex necessary.) Liz DJs a night time radio show as her B side: Gabe, and attracts a following with both good and traumatic results.
I am so thankful for books like these that give hope to anyone who might be alone, or lonely, and for shining a light for anyone who is open to understanding. Necessary, emotional, powerful. Also ❤️ the music 🎶
What a lovely book. As I got closer to the finish, I ended up crying at work. Heartbreaking for a bit, but thankfully for Gabe, got better.
Really great story of Gabe and his transition. I found myself forgetting that I'm a cis-female who identifies as a woman as Liz presented as Gabe. And all the music talk was great because Elvis really is the King.
This is a beautiful book on an ugly pair of pants. But seriously, just a wonderful heart-wrenching empowering YA tale about a transmale teen struggling with family, bullies and love. But he's not struggling with himself - he knows who he is even if everyone else does not. Brava!!! Well done.
