My ideal bookshop would be quiet. I would organize it in the same way that a library would organize their collections, with more of an emphasis on historical fiction and nonfiction. I would sell new books, along with totes, bookmarks, journals, pens, etc. It would be a two story building with a cafe on the second floor that would sell mainly light breakfast and lunch items, with baked goods and coffees and teas and other drinks. ⤵️

melissajayne It would be open until about 9 pm Monday through Saturday allowing for people to come in the evening after work and open until about 6 pm on Sunday. I would like the ground floor to have some space for an area for kids and teen books. I would try to make a room for book club meetings that customers could reserve ahead of time.⤵️ 10mo
melissajayne Of course there would be a fee to reserve the space and there would also be catering services available for groups reserving the space. I would probably also offer alcoholic beverages with a very limited menu. I don‘t know what I would call it. #wondrouswednesday 10mo
melissajayne I would also try to primarily hire those individuals on social assistance. 10mo
Eggs Well done - thanks for playing 👏🏻👌🏼 10mo

#wondrouswednesday @eggs
My bookshop would be very dreamy. A starry, constellation painted ceiling with tall bookshelves & ladders to glide around (which I'd promote). I'd serve delicate pastries, unique teas & coffees with all syrups imaginable. Music would be jazzy, & I'd probably have it located in London. I'd name it Whimsy's Library & Cafe & I'd also sell stationary. My shop would also have a piglet that the kids enjoy reading books to.

BooksNBowls Omg I love your bookstore! 🥹 I wish it was a real place and I might live there 💕 10mo
KateReadsYA @BooksNBowls Thank you!!!! I can't wait to hear about yours haha 10mo

I visited my happy place this morning. I hadn't been in a bookshop since last December. I expected to leave with a heavy bag or two, but I left empty-handed. 🤷‍♀️ It's not like I NEED more books. I've got hundreds on my tbr shelves, not even counting ebooks and audios. But still, it was weird to not really want anything. 😕

RaeLovesToRead 🥰🥰🥰 2y
TEArificbooks Don‘t worry the next time you go you will find 100 books you want 2y
Addison_Reads I empathize. My husband took me to Half Price Books recently just because to surprise me and after browsing for a while I just didn't feel the need to buy anything. Between my local library, my shelves, and NetGalley I have plenty already to read. It just felt odd not leaving with at least one book. 2y

TieDyeDude I've become so dependent on libraries in the past few years that, when I went to two stores for Independent Bookstore Day, I struggled to find something I wanted to actually own. 2y
ShyBookOwl The same thing happened to me the last time I was in a bookstore 🤷🏽‍♀️ It was kind of nice to browse and be surrounded by books for a while without feeling like I had to spend money though 2y
CaroPi I wish this happens to me.... 2y
Gissy I admire you! I‘m still a weak😔 person in places where I can buy books😳at least one. 2y
Traci1 @TieDyeDude @Addison_Reads it definitely had to do with library access for me. I've recently gotten a couple new cards for Libby, and both of the libraries have so much content. While I love owning books, I can't really justify spending money on something I could so easily get for free. 2y

So I just brought a local bookshop 9 boxes of books, traded for some store credits (bc duh) and ended up buying some new ones, bookish socks, and some chocolates! I‘d say it was a win win all around ☺️📚🙌🏼

marleed Ooooh, 9 boxes - you did good! And you still to to come with a few. That is a win-win! 3y
Cailey_Mac @marleed It really was! Plus I feel great I helped out a local bookshop ☺️ 3y

They opened a new bookshop in town. Unfortunately it barely had any books in it. Haha! There were more books used as decor than they had for sale but it was still a pretty place to be.

Went out to get groceries with my sister and stepped into a bookshop. Absolute heaven; I could just feel the zen vibes returning ??‍♀️ Surprisingly I behaved myself and didn't buy anything because I'd just made a couple of online orders (and my sister kept texting, "Are you done" "Are you done" "Are you done" ?) A young boy came in with his parents when I was in there and said, "I'm soooo happy to be back, Mummy can I buy a story book?" ?❤️

thevagabondlawyer Best place ever 👏 4y

erzascarletbookgasm Ah, the joy! I still haven‘t visited a bookstore since lockdown. If only I can step into the Mothership (Kinokuniya) for a browse..🤩 4y
Velvetfur Aaww that's such a lovely story! 💜 4y
BookishMe Bookish Zen is so therapeutic! 😍😍 4y
AmyG There is just something about being surrounded by books. ❤️ 4y
hilded Lovely ❤️ 4y
batsy @squirrelbrain @MicheleinPhilly Soon for you guys too, I hope 💕 4y
batsy @Velvetfur He was the sweetest! So thrilled to be among books 4y
batsy @erzascarletbookgasm Mothership, lol! Perfect. I can't wait, too. Just a bit nervous heading out into the city centre. This was in Bangsar and the MPH had maybe 5 people in total. Bookshops in M'sia the best place to social distance 😂 4y
Cathythoughts That‘s great to feel some normality ... hopefully for us by the end of summer... bit by bit ❤️❤️❤️ 4y
Velvetfur @batsy I've just seen on your profile that you're in Malaysia; I went there for 2 weeks in 2008 and LOVED it! So are you guys not in lockdown anymore, or starting to ease it? 🙂 4y
Tanisha_A What a lovely day! Happy for you. 😍 4y
batsy @Cathythoughts Hopefully too... Small, safe steps 💜 Amazing to realise how much I took for granted. 4y
batsy @Velvetfur That's so cool! And I'm so glad you loved your trip ❤️ We've been on lockdown since mid-March and only recently eased up a little with a "conditional" lockdown with businesses opening. Hopefully it doesn't result in another wave... People seem to be torn between wanting to go out again and being cautious. 4y
batsy @Tanisha_A Thank you, T! Funny what being around a bunch of books can do 😉❤️ 4y
Velvetfur @batsy Sounds like Malaysian people are sensible then; I'm sure you've heard how the UK has the highest death rate in Europe, 2nd highest in the world.... There's a reason for that, and the reason is: Covidiots! That's all I can say, I'll get angry if I carry on...! 4y
rubyslippersreads I miss bookstores so much! 😿 4y
Hooked_on_books Even your picture is a balm! And you could always selectively mute the text alerts from your sister. 😬 She‘s clearly not a Litten. 4y
Megabooks That‘s great!! 4y
batsy @Velvetfur I've been reading about what's happening in the UK; I totally get your frustration 😔 I don't know if we're sensible, we've got a few of those here too but maybe on the whole we're a docile/compliant lot. I have a lot of anger towards our current gov't so I will say that the people are perhaps more responsible than the leaders! Solidarity 💜 4y
batsy @Hooked_on_books She's definitely not a Litten! And about my books, she tells me I have a "problem" ?? 4y
CarolynM Some bookshops just reopened here too. I'm staying away as long as I can hold out - it's been good for me to read what's already on my shelves😂 4y
Velvetfur @batsy I know exactly what you mean about the people being more sensible than their government! Oh and it sounds like you have a sister like mine... My sister does read, but can't understand my obsession! 😂 4y
Reggie I went to a bookstore for the first time last week and it felt glorious. And aww to the little boy! 4y
batsy @CarolynM I totally understand 😁 4y
batsy @Velvetfur My sister used to read quite a bit, though we have different taste in books. But she is nowhere near as obsessed as I am 😁 4y
batsy @Reggie Isn't it the best feeling! And I wanted to hug the kid for his enthusiasm...I hope he got his book ❤️ 4y
LeahBergen I can‘t wait to go in a bookshop 😩 4y
batsy @LeahBergen I hope you get your chance soon 🤞🏽 4y
Centique Awwww 💕 I was in a bookshop again for the first time yesterday. Unfortunately they didn‘t have anything I wanted. It‘s our large chainstore one and the lack of diversity in it drives me wild - I think that was the last chance I will give it. 😏 next week I‘m going to drive to the closest indie instead. 4y
batsy @Centique Oooh, that's something nice to look forward to! ❤️ We don't have many indies and this is a chain store, but certain branches have had to close lately and it's made me a bit panicky. Today I went back to another branch and got a book I was dying to get before lockdown 4y
