A new beginning for Mira Grant's "New York Times" bestselling NEWSFLESH series! "There are two sides to every story... " We had cured cancer. We had beaten the common cold. But in doing so we unleashed something horrifying and unstoppable. The infection spread leaving those afflicted with a single uncontrollable impulse: FEED. Now, twenty years after the Rising, a team of scrappy underdog reporters relentlessly pursue the facts while competing against the brother and sister blog superstars, the Masons. Surrounded by the infected, and facing more insidious forces working in the shadows, they must hit the presidential campaign trail and uncover dangerous truths. Or die trying. FEEDBACK is a full-length Newsflesh novel that overlaps the events of the acclaimed first novel in the series, "Feed, "and offers a new entry point to this thrilling and treacherous world. “The American political process is not broken. It works exactly as it is intended to, and it will continue to grind good people up and spit them out until such a time as someone figures out how to dismantle the great machine.”
Mira Grant is, as always, fantastic at writing horror that strikes just slightly to close to home. I love it ever so much.

Zombies, zombies, yay zombies!
I knew I would love this. I loved the original Newsflesh trilogy, and this is just as good.
This takes place at the same time as Feed, but from the point of view of the blogger team hired by one of the main democratic candidates. So the characters know of the Masons, but only from a far.
Grant has a way of mixing a terrifying dystopian world with gritty realistic characters and science, I just can‘t get enough!

I‘ve been reading this on my phone the last few days and not only am I appreciating technology and the #Kindle app, I am legit freaking out at how much I‘m enjoying this book. Honestly, it feels like when I first read the original trilogy just over five years ago — it‘s been long enough since I reread those that a lot of this feels very fresh if vaguely familiar.

If the Rising hadn‘t happened when it did [2014], the police would probably have triggered a civil war... At least zombies were acting on hunger and instinct and blind need, not racism and paranoia and carefully nurtured power trips.

Hey everyone! So I have been working really hard on revamping my blog and making it look a little more pleasing to the eye. I'd like very much if you guys will give me some feedback on it. Constructive criticism is much appreciated 😊

Kaye Hi Tamara, You said constructive criticism is ok, right ? I‘d put all that tiny print of what all you are and where to find you either in the side or down at the bottom. Next, the pictures and print need to be bigger. Very hard to see. I‘m not a blogger so pardon me if I‘m giving you bad advice. I‘m just looking at it to see how it might be a bit more inviting. With the small print, it‘s too hard to see. (edited) 6y

This was my second time through this zombie-filled political tale. It held up pretty well - the news / politics seems a tad naive in today‘s political climate and the repeated mention of Georgia‘s eye condition grated - but it still packs an emotional punch. I‘m looking forward to Book Two. Thanks again @LA_Mead

Sometimes I wanna punch people in the face! I'm sorry, but rant alert!
So, I was in my local bookshop when I overheard this guy complaining to his friends; saying that he hates books where the government is the bad guy and the main characters are all hipsters which is basically all SFF at the moment. He continued by picking up random books (including 2 I love) and declaring them crap. 😠😠😠😠 I've never walked out a bookshop so angry!!

Chelleo Ugh. Hate when people drag my favorites (books or genres). I stopped listening to a podcast because the hosts kept slamming YA fiction. I get that it may not be your thing but do you have to be so awful about it? Hope you snuggle up with a great read soon and forget about that dude. 6y
JoScho The world is full of stupid people 😒 6y
dylanisreading Sounds like he doesn't even know anything about SFF (or what's currently going on in the world). Sorry that guy was being extra in one of your fave places. 6y
WeeWeegieBookworm Thanks for cheering me up guys 😁 I understand personal preference, but he just went way over the top. Don't judge a book by its cover, genre or what's popular in the media! And certainly don't yell it out in the middle of the section you're slagging off! 😒 some people *shakes head* 6y

Feedback would have been a pick if it was a standalone book. But since it's part of the Newsflesh series, it's only so-so for me. It was essentially a rehashing of Feed with new characters. I would have enjoyed another book with the Mason siblings and their team.

Though I never love this author's Mira Grant books quite as much as her Seanan McGuire ones, the whole Newsflesh series is really well done. Feedback goes back to the zombies-and-a-presidential-campaign premise of Feed, but with a cast of characters who AREN'T the chosen ones, and who are at risk of ending up collateral damage instead. (Also, it has the first non-binary character I've seen in an SF/F novel, and a lesbian protagonist!)

I thought the first three books in the Newsflesh series were clever, original and super fun to read. I usually don't care much for zombie stories, but they were hard to put down. This one didn't quite make it to that level. It felt a little too much like a lesser reboot.

I wanted this book to be more then it was, I wanted more from this universe and instead got a duplicated storyline with forced characters and a repetitive plot. Still a good read just didn't live up to its predecessors.

I will state that I was impressed by Grants choice to give unique characters with different ethnicities, sexual orientation and gender identification. She gave a voice to groups that are often left silence in fiction.

The character Mat is gender fluid and I love it! I love how Grant took the time to create a character that deserves representation not only in SciFi, but it literature period. It's going to take time for me to get use to 'they' instead of he or she, but I thinking reading it will make it easier for me to remember with my in -flesh friends who request the same pronoun. Mira Grant you rock. Mat; you are a wonderful character.

I really hate to bail because I liked the original Newsflesh trilogy. I may have even liked this book in print, but can't stand narrator Georgia Dolenz any longer. Her take on the main character is good: Irish accent, picks up on personality. But everyone else is horrible. American accent is okay but I can't even tell men from women, and she mispronounces Willamette & Oregon. Plus I'm kind of bored w/ story. Time to move on.

LitHousewife Boo! But, you're making the right choice. 7y
BethFishReads @LitHousewife thanks. I think so 7y

Yesterday, while organizing this work in progress bookcase, I finished the newest Mira Grant on audio. While not as good as the original trilogy, I enjoyed how this one worked with the original, but still gave a new story to follow. It gave some more perspective on the events in the original trilogy as well. I thought the audio was good, but not quite as good as the first trilogy, which I listened to on audio earlier this year. Recommended!

I have mixed feelings about this one. If you follow me here or elsewhere, you may know I think the first Newsflesh novel, Feed, is an almost perfect near-future SF book. I was less impressed with the next two books.

Feedback takes place concurrently with Feed, following a different team of bloggers who are working for the Democratic candidate. The setup felt VERY slow, particularly considering the world is so fully fleshed out. A very 'meh' read.

"Feedback" returns to the zombie-filled world of Mira Grant's "Feed" trilogy to tell a story of a different set of bloggers over the same time period, condensed into one book. Her world is so fully thought out that there is clearly more to explore, even after writing several additional novellas. I can't think of another author who considered the impact of rose bushes around zombies. Not my favorite ending, but a good story.

Loved re-immersing myself in the Newsflesh world with an Irwin female narrator overflowing with chutzpah. While one or two bigger plot details seemed too telegraphed, the resolution took me by surprise.
