Collected Stories of Eudora Welty
Collected Stories of Eudora Welty | Eudora Welty
19 posts | 13 read | 25 to read
With a preface written by the author especially for this edition, this is the complete collection of stories by Eudora Welty. Including the earlier collections "A Curtain of Green," "The Wide Net," "The Golden Apples," and "The Bride of the Innisfallen," as well as previously uncollected ones, these forty-one stories demonstrate Eudora Welty's talent for writing from diverse points-of-view with vision that is sweet by nature, always humanizing, uncannily objective, but never angry ("Washington Post")."

This story was mentioned in These Precious Days (A. Patchett) and I found this amazing audio version on YouTube. There‘s some potentially offensive language about black people but true to the written word. I enjoyed hearing the accents, made hearing it a richer experience.

Pickpick

I did not read the book, just the one story, Death of a Traveling Salesman, for this month's #Bookspin pick. I chose this one from a list I've been following on Lit Hub of 20 authors' first published stories. It is an amazing achievement for a first published story. The atmosphere is grim and disorientating. Nothing is quite as it first seems. Loneliness as a symptom of the South turning more modern. 5⭐

DrexEdit For some bonus fun, here's a link to a YouTube post with audio of Eudora Welty reading another favorite of mine “Why I Live at the P.O.“ To hear it in her own fast-paced southern drawl is pretty amazing. 😊

Littens, I blame you for this. I had never heard of Book Depository before Litsy. Today the Feds got involved.🤣📚#LittensforLife #winteriscoming #TBRpile

Caroline2 😆 Great book haul tho! 😀 4y

Who are your favorite #shortstory authors?

I have been reading more and more short stories lately (addicted since reading Lauren Groff‘s Florida collection), and I picked this up today. Looking forward to diving in. Cover photo was taken by the author who was also a talented photographer. Thinking of trying for one short story a day. #shortstoryaday #shortstories

🔊🎧❤️Eudora Welty reading one of her short stories.... just stellar. I went from sympathizing with the narrator and being outraged on her behalf too laughing at the absurdity of a family fight on the Fourth of July💥

"I cannot remember a time when I was not in love with them--with the books themselves, cover and binding and the paper they were printed on, with their smell and their weight and with their possession in my arms, captured and carried off to myself."
?Happy Birthday, Eudora Welty!?

I couldn't agree more with you about loving books! ??

Jess_Read_This @DivineDiana 😊💕Thank you so much! I just love Eudora Welty. She knows how to capture a moment on paper. 8y
Jess_Read_This @Suet624 Yes! I made bouquet of them as centerpiece for a tea I was a hostess for. They aren't too hard to do.. just have a good supply of hot glue sticks 😂 8y

I'm seeking six more books for my official personal list of TBR 2017. I'm waiting on another private book club where I've submitted some choices to see if any made the cut and I will add a few from there, too.

I'm an eclectic reader and social media is biting into my vibe. 😎🤓😍

Suet624 Gosh, they are all so unique and beautiful. My first thought when I saw your post was of Jack London's library. I loved visiting his home when I spent a year in No. California. Spent a lot of time on his property. So I was surprised and delighted to see it included in the article. 8y

Watching Gilmore girls and got a little giddy as Rory worked to make room in her backpack for a nonfiction book, collection of essays, novel and collection of short stories because she just never knew what she'd be in the mood for! #roryismyhero

Not a snowy egret, but whenever I see any egret or heron I think back to reading Eudora Welty's "A Still Moment" over a rainy winter break spent in a little house on a red dirt road outside of Pensacola.

Jamesmelvinmitchell What a lovely image. I love reading on my porch when it's raining. 6y
