Slashing Through the Snow
Slashing Through the Snow: A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery | Jacqueline Frost
18 posts | 13 read | 6 to read
Maine innkeeper Holly White returns to sleuth another seasonal slaying in the third Christmas Tree Farm mystery from bestselling author Jacqueline Frost. Reindeer Games Christmas Tree Farm is going into the B&B business, and Holly White is looking forward to her new role as innkeeper. Even better, Mistletoe, Maine's sheriff, Evan Gray, has deputized his little sister Libby to help Holly wrap presents for Mistletoe's toy drive. But a cold wind ruffles the cheery holiday decorations when a new guest checks in: Cleo, a vicious B&B critic, who could make or break the new inn. And the short December days turn even darker when Evan and Libby find Cleo's dead body in the gift-wrapped toy donation box. The suspect list is longer than Santa's naughty list, and local resident Cookie is on it, since her fingerprints are all over the murder weapon, a metal nutcracker that she gave to Holly. So is Libby, who recently moved to town from Boston in less-than-savory circumstances. But cranky Cleo was an oh-holy-nightmare to lots of the townsfolk, such as Evan's reporter friend Ray; Christopher, the inn's former contractor; and confectioner Bonnie, whose Gum Drop Shop was a direct target of Cleo's scathing prose. To figure out the killer's identity and clear Cookie's name, Holly and her friends brainstorm at The Hearth, the farm's caf, while her mother keeps them fueled with Christmas goodies fresh from the oven. But if they can't put the culprit on ice, Holly may never see another Christmas.

My first re-read of the 3rd book, all in prep in book 4. I can't recommend these books enough!

While this wasn‘t my favorite of the series, there‘s still a lot to love. The festive nature of the town is what brings me back. In this one, I got a little annoyed with how Holly reacted to some things. It did have a perfectly cozy ending, though. 4 stars. 5,430 = Word Search.

So much fun! A bit silly, but this cozy mystery was charming and fun and I can‘t wait to the others in the series (this was the 3rd but the 1st for me). #BookspinBingo #DashingDecember #Wintergames @TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65

I really flew through this series! Book 3 finds Holly yet again trying to solve a murder and avoid being a victim. I may have listened to these too much back to back, as I started eye rolling at Holly‘s obsession with finding the truth, despite everyone she knew begging her to stop investigating. A charming cozy set in a quaint town. I definitely got misty eyed at one part of this book - so like a Hallmark movie!

PageShifter Ooooh, sounds really intriguing! 1y

3rd in the series, this is a holiday Hallmark mystery movie in book form. The audiobook narrator is good, although the panic screaming near the end was a bit much. It‘s a fun cozy mystery for the holidays. Who doesn‘t like a little light murder for Christmas?

Bookzombie I‘m about two-thirds into the first book. I really like the narrator. Her voice has a tone that off-sets how sweet everything in Mistletoe seems, lol. I‘m really enjoying it. I was so happy her mom made a roast though as it sometimes seems like they only eat sweets. 😂 1y
DGRachel @Bookzombie I listened to the first in 2019 and was so disappointed that there wasn‘t a third one at the time. 😂 They are fun. 1y

The newest Christmas Tree Farm Mystery book is very similar to the others. Nothing earth-shattering but perfect for a little Christmas escapism. 3.75⭐️

Finally! It's been a long wait, but book 3 was worth it. Holly is now running an inn, but when a vicious critic who's staying at her B&B ends up murdered, Holly is determined to get to the bottom of this new Christmas whodunit.

Mehso-so

I was so excited to see there was a new Christmas Tree Farm book, but was a wee bit disappointed; I feel like she just keeps marching into danger even when everyone tells get to not interfere. Even the suspect says please don‘t interfere! Other than her propensity to disregard everyone around her, the mystery was good. Lots of red herrings & plenty of other suspects, & a good tie up at the end; definitely hadn‘t guessed where that was going.
