The Shadow of the Gods
The Shadow of the Gods | John Gwynne
From acclaimed fantasy author John Gwynne comes the first in the Bloodsworn trilogy, an epic of wild lands and wilder magic, where not all monsters fight with tooth and claw...and the treasures of the gods come at a price. This is the age of storm and murder. After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people: a huntress searching for her missing son, a jarl's daughter who has rejected privilege in pursuit of battle fame, and a thrall who has cast off his chains and now fights alongside the famed mercenaries known as the Bloodsworn. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos. Wow this was epic story telling. A Viking inspired epic fantasy, that follows three main characters that at first seem not linked. Children are going missing and we follow our characters go on violent brutal adventures. I did not have the next book on my July tbr, but I think I need to continue this series sooner then later. 5⭐️!!

This one took me awhile to get into but I loved it once I did. A Norse inspired saga following Orka, a shield maiden searching for her son, Varg, once a thrall now a member of the Bloodsworn and Elvar, a Jarl's daughter & member of the Battle Grim 🐉

Nessavamusic I just recently picked this one up to add to my tbr. I‘ve heard good things. 6mo
TheAromaofBooks Oooo this one sounds good!! Was it very violent? Sometimes high fantasy gets a little gory for my taste 😂 6mo

I‘ve been in such a reading slump and every book I try to read, I can‘t get into it. I don‘t know how to break this terrible slump! But I started this book and I‘ve gotten farther in it than others so my fingers are crossed this is the one to break it!

This is probably the most disappointing dnf of the year. I wanted to love The Shadow of the Gods so bad. I just can‘t get into it. I‘ve tried at least five times. So I think it‘s time to move on. I‘ve added it to my bookshop on PangoBooks if you want to check it out.

I have a very short November tbr. Seriously, this is the only book on my tbr. After I read it I‘m just going to stick with mood reading. I have a lot of books on my shelf that I need to read before the end of the year, so I‘m just going to pick from them. What are you planning to read this month?

John Gwynne I applaud you!

Another book full of amazing and unique characters who you can't help but love. Everything about this book was perfect. The characters, the world-building, the action, the pacing. I went into this with high high expectations and I was not disappointed. I am so ready for the rest of the series!

Another five star read for me (as all of his books have been). I can't wait to get my physical copy and read this again.

TrishB He is awesome 👍🏻 1y

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review from #Netgalley. This was a great start to a new fantasy series! It features a world inspired by Vikings and Norse mythology and has a fun cast of characters and interesting creatures. The magic system is very interesting; magic users are descendants of extinct gods. A majority of the warriors and leaders in this book are female which is awesome. The ending! Ah!!!! So gooooood!
