Maddy was a loving, devoted stay-at-home mother...until she committed suicide, which left her husband Brady and her teenage daughter Eve heartbroken and reeling, wondering how they can possibly continue without her. Maddy, however, isnt quite done with them. In an attempt to fulfill her familys needs, Maddy watches and meddles from beyond the grave, determined to find the perfect wife and mother to replace herself and heal her family. Thats when she finds Rory: a free-spirited schoolteacher, who Maddy maneuvers into Eves confidences, but who turns out to be harboring a tragedy of her own. In a story both deeply moving and charming, with the domestic insight of Jodi Picoult, I Liked My Life is a mothers final blessing for a family learning to live again.

Finished my first #TrappedOnAnIsland book of the month. Kind of ironic that I played library purgatory tag with this one for over a year only to now listen to the whole thing in one day. I was originally drawn to this book because the similarity of the cover to the Modern edition of The Bell Jar. I really loved the ending. This book wasn‘t what I expected going in, but was a satisfying read.

This book was really not my cup of tea. I found it dragged on a bit and I almost stopped reading, but ended up getting through it. The ending kind of redeemed things for me, but overall I give it a 2.5/5 rating.

Loved the characters and how they developed along with their grief. Love the story being told from the 3 perspectives of the deceased wife/mother, daughter and husband.

A decent listen about the suicide of Maddy, a mother and wife, told from the perspective of the daughter, husband, and Maddy herself, post-death. It was a little cheesy that she was influencing her family from "the other side", but it was unique. There is a surprise at the end that I didn't foresee. The author adds a "10 years later epilogue" to close loose ends, but it feels a little slapdash.

There were a lot of really interesting things happening with this book. It targeted loss and understanding in a unique way. There was a bit of a mystery and a strong message of being grateful for what you have. I really liked how everything came together in this.

Book hangover today - I had to stay up and finish, so I‘ll call this a good book that caught my attention! The main character, Maddy, seems to be the perfect wife and mother. Her recent suicide leaves her husband & daughter wondering, “What did we miss?”

Four stars - loved the characters, funny dialogue, surprising ending.

It‘s so great when your ridiculously high expectations for a book are met. I loved this story. I loved that the characters learned from their grief and didn‘t let it destroy them. It didn‘t end quite like I expected either, which was a pleasant surprise. Great writing, great story, great book!

This was the last book I finished in 2017. I enjoyed it but did not love it as much as other people seemed to 🙈There were some great moments and lessons in it but I thought the mother was depicted a bit too good and saintly and the grieving father and daughter were kind of jerks even for people who are grieving. I'm giving it a Pick instead of So-So because I WAS sick and irritable while reading it... so maybe it was just me.

I Liked My Life was a profoundly touching read for me. Abby Fabiaschi has a way of capturing the moment, but her tools are crafted words rather than photographic lenses. And, oh what moments. This one made me feel all the feels. I could relate to the characters and was amazed at their significant development over time. Bravo!

"When the world gives you a hard time, pick up a book and join another."

One of my favorite quotes fr this beautifully rendered story about the exploration of love, family, forgiveness, & grief. It eloquently touches on family dynamics & the various ways grief can manifest itself in family members suffering from the same loss. A truly poignant & authentic family/character study with a touch of mystery. Highly recommended!?

Def intrigued thus far. Told from 3 points of view, there's Maddy, a woman who has committed suicide & is trying to find her 'replacement' ; her husband & daughter's perspective on how they're coping/adjusting respectively ; & entries fr Maddy's journal which I hope will provide answers in future chapters.

5/5 ⭐️ Phenomenal read! I don't remember the last book set in the current, real world (not historical/future or fantasy) that kept me so engaged. Tackles a lot of tough interpersonal issues with both grace and humor. The premise is heavy but somehow it isn't a depressing read, and it's full of truth bombs about life, family, and relationships. The epilogue seemed to wrap up just a little too neatly, but otherwise, can't say enough good things!

Maddie liked her life. Motherhood increased her capacity to love and experience joy. Maddie loved to read and couldn't imagine a world without humor. Maddie's life ended suddenly as a direct result of a choice she had made. After death, Maddie used her thoughts to communicate with her loved ones. She nudged those who missed her the most to make choices that would help them to heal and thrive once again. I loved this book!

Fantastic. My father died suddenly and unexpectedly less than 2 years ago. I wasn't sure I was ready for this audiobook, but it's a moving look at death and the aftermath to those who continue on. Not depressing, not necessarily life affirming -- just kind of truthful. The audiobook was incredibly well done. All three narrators (listed in photo) were near perfect.

mcipher How's the suicide part? That's my hang up here, having dealt with a few in my life. Some books with that are really hard for me to read. 7y
BethFishReads @mcipher I was a little concerned about that too, but I didn't find it to be a problem here. YMMV 7y
