The Little French Bistro: A Novel | Nina George
110 posts | 67 read | 3 reading | 116 to read
From the New York Times and internationally bestselling author of The Little Paris Bookshop, an extraordinary novel about self-discovery and new beginnings Marianne is stuck in a loveless, unhappy marriage. After forty-one years, she has reached her limit, and one evening in Paris she decides to take action. Following a dramatic moment on the banks of the Seine, Marianne leaves her life behind and sets out for the coast of Brittany, also known as the end of the world. Here she meets a cast of colorful and unforgettable locals who surprise her with their warm welcome, and the natural ease they all seem to have, taking pleasure in lifes small moments. And, as the parts of herself she had long forgotten return to her in this new world, Marianne learns its never too late to begin the search for what life should have been all along. With all the buoyant charm that made The Little Paris Bookshop a beloved bestseller, The Little Breton Bistro is a tale of second chances and a delightful embrace of the joys of life in France. From the Hardcover edition.

9/10 Excellent read. Heartfelt and sweet, no big twists, just a well written story, that pulls you along rooting for Marianne all the way. Excellent summer read, great for travel, or simply relaxing and enjoying.

A woman on vacation with her husband in Paris decides she can no longer bear her life, and in an attempt to control her fate, jumps in the river to kill herself. She is rescued. This is the story of what she does with her second chance at life. While there were a few poignant moments, mostly I was bored, and I found myself wishing that she'd succeeded in her suicide attempt so I would have been spared the rest of the book. #LMPBC #GroupR

Chili @DGRachel Pretty picture! It‘s snowing here. I‘m heading to the post office to send the next book to you. I agree I didn‘t love The French Bistro either. 🤷‍♀️ 9mo
DGRachel @Chili I‘d be swearing if it was snowing here! As for the book, you win some, you lose some, and I wonder if something got lost in translation? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 9mo

@ItsAngel @LauraBeth @DGRachel I pulled these four off the shelf. I‘m fine with any of them. How To Love A Jamaican are short stories.
#LMPBC

DGRachel I struggle with short stories, but all of your choices sound good. I‘d probably go with the tagged book as my first choice, then Bel Canto, then Too Close. 😊 11mo
ItsAngel The Little French Bistro and Too Close are equally intriguing, I vote for both. Lol I am no help. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 11mo
Chili @DGRachel I have a hard time with short stories too. 11mo

LauraBeth As the newbie to the LMPC - what do I need to do? Just recommend four books? I‘ll get on that - but wanted to make sure I wasn‘t missing anything! 😀 (edited) 11mo
Chili @ItsAngel @DGRachel @LauraBeth The Little French Bistro is the one. 😁 11mo
ItsAngel @LauraBeth there are no real rules, some groups pick their own and keep it a surprise, some pick and tell, and some give options like we have. It‘s an easy going kind of thing. 😊 11mo

A woman comes to terms with the facts of her unhappy marriage and unhappy life and decides to commit suicide in Paris. But she doesn‘t and this is her story. I really wanted to like this, and I did like parts of it, but not the whole.

I‘m gonna have to give this a “so-so” rating. It was a nice story but it didn‘t wow me or leave me wanting more. The middle got a little boring but I stuck with it hoping for that heart pounding ending. I think it was a nice ending but not that exciting. Not saying don‘t read it but just don‘t expect an exciting read.

C.Perone I started this a while ago and didn't get very far. I was just so damned confused with what was going on that I quickly moved on to another book. I think I was expecting another 12mo
Maggie_Reads I haven‘t read her first book. But I do think there‘s some moments in the books that‘s lost in translation as I understand the book was translated from German. (edited) 12mo

First book of 2019 finished! It also supported my #unreadshelfchallenge2019 I had bought this book at R.J. Julia's bookstore in CT, but it had been sitting on my shelf staring at me. I enjoyed meeting the quirky characters and was happy with the way the story resolved itself. I think I may read her other book, The Little Paris Bookshop for my next fiction read (that has been on my shelf even longer!).

The book started out pretty slow, but halfway in, Marianne's personalities really shine through. The rest of the characters starts to bloom as well. I almost bailed mid-book, but thank god I stayed through. The ending is so sweet and satisfying!

Since I just picked this book up on a whim at the library, I had no expectations (and no real idea what the book was about even). But I found Nina George's prose lovely and captivating. And I was totally hooked the moment Marianne tastes her first raw oyster. I not only enjoyed Marianne's journey of self discovery and seeing herself anew, I was able to catches glimpses of myself in the pages

Wow, this book. Coming from someone who was able to get out of an unhealthy relationship and having to spend a couple years finding themselves again, I can appreciate every moment of this book. From the struggles of unbelievable pain to appreciating the importance of supportive people in life to loving yourself and to seeing how powerful women can be; this book explained it all. #love #strength #hope #beyourself #womenarepowerful #mpls #twincities

This book was a beautiful story. I knew nothing about it when I started I listened to it because I loved her Little Paris Bookshop. This book calms you and is an amazing portrayal of life lived on the sidelines and a reminder to live the life you want, you only get one and you deserve to be happy and loved and there is a light at the end of the incredibly dark tunnel

First entry in #LitsyAtoZ
This book started out much darker than I was expecting and then quickly reverted to being exactly what you‘d expect. I finished this after listening to this week‘s #WSIRN and the guest said she didn‘t like books where the focus is women needing other people to show them how special they are. After that I couldn‘t get any enjoyment from the predictably tidy ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chelsibeau Ya this didn‘t do it for me either. I was disappointed 2y
